When you were young, was there ever a time when you did not understand your teacher or the language he or she was speaking? For example, just like a child learning to ride a bike, your brain needs continuous practice and exercise in order to become larger and stronger. So when you think or solve problems you use the part of your brain called the cortex. It consists of billions of tiny nerve cells that are called neurons. The nerve cells connect together and grow dendrites (fibers) that grow when you listen write or talk, thus creating a very complex and complicated network. I moved to the United States of America when I was six years old. I could not speak any English, so I had many problems. I could not ask to go to the bathroom or make new friends. However, I was allowed to start first grade with the other six year olds, so I was not too far behind them in knowledge because first graders are not at their peak of intelligence.
