7- Steps to developing a Positive Mindset for Life
Here are some proven tools that you can apply and practice on a daily basis to begin developing a positive mindset.
First you need to begin by allocating time for it in your life as if it were a part of your routine such as brushing your teeth.
Journaling - Two Parts
Part one: Begin with a gratitude journal. To do this, you can either use a notebook and pen, lap top, iPhone (smart phone) or iPad.
Start with the date. Then either write the following instruction down and begin your list, or just go ahead and begin your list.
List at least 5 things for which you are grateful for right now.
"I am grateful for... "
Part two: Checking in with how you feel.
This next part of developing a positive mindset is to record how you feel throughout the day. Set a reminder for yourself for the following times:
Morning
Mid Morning
Lunchtime
Mid Afternoon
Evening
Late evening
Ask yourself how you feel and write down one emotion or feeling (of course it can be more!).
(Hint: Make a list of emotions on a small piece of paper and keep it in your wallet or purse. This will help you to easily identify you feelings and emotions quickly if this is not something you are used to.)
Happy
Joyful
Tired
Sad
Melancholy
Excited
Worried
Nervous
Anxious
Worry Time
Positive thinking is not about a land of pretence and fake smiles. Part of developing a positive mind set is to also acknowledge the things that worry us. Things like issues that come
Having a positive attitude is important for lots of reasons. A few of the most important ones are that being positive can benefit a person’s physical health, mental health and others health by being available to help and encourage others. For example, “When we feel more positive emotions than negative ones, difficult situations are easier to handle” (Kids Health).
Joyce Meyer once said, “A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances instead of your circumstances having power over you”. Throughout times people have proven that positive thinking will help resolve a conflict. It is good to remain positive to eventually receive a good outcome. When a conflict arises the best way to deal with it is to keep a positive attitude. Many argue that a fight will quickly end a problem but problem but a good example that that is false is the story of Black Ships before Troy.In black ships before Troy they use war to solve their problems.people think that it won't really matter what attitude is presented in a problem. Many would argue that the one side of the argument doesn't care about the attitude about the other person/side..
The best way to go in positive thinking is to just stay positive and work for your goal. If I would have just sat there at my desk just looking at it hoping something will happen, that could never happen because I had to act on my goal and stay positive. Staying positive and acting on your goal is the best solution instead of being a “realist” like Barbara Ehrenreich who just thinks in the realism side of positive thinking and can’t see the fact that its okay to have some optimism in anything you do, but not in the way The Secret portrays positive thinking just hoping and hoping for something to
Their results support the conclusion that a positive mindset reduces the risk of illness and increases longevity. Future research should examine these findings in older populations, because only one of these studies examined the effect of a positive mindset on physical health of an older population.
“‘...”positive thinking” is also a soft and fluffy term that is easy to dismiss...it carries the same weight as words like “work ethic” or “persistence”’(Clear). Positive thinking can help you through many tough situations. As victims of the Holocaust, both Anne Frank and Sophie Scholl displayed positive attitudes during their hardships.People can best respond to conflict by staying positive and seeing the brighter part in situations.
It is not mentally not looking at circumstances with eyes that see only what you want to see”. In other words using Positive Self-Talk shows us the truth on real situations. For example: you were trying out for the school volleyball team and you messed up on bumping the ball, when the negative thoughts occur that is when the positive self talk will take place “ok I’m now going to focus on what I need to complete in order to make it on the team.” There is a way in which you can develop a positive self talk habit, there are 3 steps and the first one is “Mantra”, choose a mantra and find a positive self talk for example; “I feel strong”. This positive self talk will encourage you to feel motivated. The second step is “Practice Multiple Scenarios”after using the positive self talk from step one, repeat the line so you can practice having it sink in your brain. It will help you during real situations in sports a example for this step is “Anything can happen, and I’m definitely not out of this, Don’t let up”. Finally, the last step called “Creating A Positive Mental Image Or Visualization” this technique can help you create a visual picture on what you are doing and saying This powerful combination will create a positive message.
Having positive attitude means thinking in a positive way only and not let the negative ones keep you down from something in your life. For example, “ West Point military cadets entering their first summer of training,” (Duckworth, 20). For these military cadets, they had to set their minds on positive thinking if they wanted to graduate from military school to become cadets. They had to get rid of all negative thinking that came to mind, like, they won’t be able to go through the exercises without failing to complete one. If they wanted to pass the military training they had to set their minds saying they can do it, they will pass everything, they will accomplish everything that was set for them to do. For those college students that struggle in their classes with the work they have, they should turn the negative into the positive. For example, if a student has some type of problems in their class they should know that the easiest way to fix it if they think positively and leave the negativity
Now the easiest thing for you and me at this point would be to finish this article with something like "6 Easy Steps to Master Your Mindset." The problem is, even if you're already convinced your mindset could use a little massaging at this point, simply reading a list of tips just isn't going to be enough to get you to take action and create meaningful change. Real change starts from within with a hefty dose of self-awareness. And that is why there is power in asking - and answering - questions.
I do think that having a positive mindset will for sure help you succeed, I just don’t think that it’s impossible to succeed without a positive attitude. So for example, a couple of weeks ago I went to Oklahoma for something and I ran cross country. I did not have a positive attitude about this AT ALL!!!! I thought I was going to come in last place and even just give up. When we started running I was like ‘’I CAN’T DO
An example of two positive thinking and optimism works for me is when I used to get panics attack I use to think positive close my eyes and take myself to a happy place it used to help it go away. Or when I work out telling myself you got this helps me get thru the workout.
Instead of just living your life like most of the mankind, on autopilot, letting silly and negative thoughts pop into your mind, consciously feed your mind positive input. Practise this on the first day of every single week, and do it throughout the day. Just do positive things for your body and brain. Read inspirational books or listen to this kind of music, go to fitness, , or call an important person, do the things, that are valuable to you. And for all, avoid the negative ones !
Every day as soon as I put my feet on the floor I recite my gratitude’s. I recite “I am truly grateful for _______ because______” finishing with a thank you. I do this every morning since I got the book “Magic from Rhonda Byrne”. Also, when I go for my walks or driving in my car I love reciting my blessings and not forgetting the thank yours. It makes me feel appreciate it for the little things I have.
Since the day that I have learned to appreciate things and look at everything in a positive manner, I have been happier, developed more friendships, and have been more productive. Although this is how I feel, most people today focus on the things they don’t have and the things they want. They generally neglect the things that they have which makes them look at things negatively. This train of thought will weaken your mind, health, and emotion. These three factors are the sole contributors of making life easier by being thankful.
Everyone has heard of the law of attraction and positive thinking. Mindset is these and more. Mindset is the way we perceive success. It is the negative, fear induced thoughts that hold you back versus positive, self-supporting thoughts that help you
What type of technique should you use? There is no specific journaling technique, but you could make up your own. Maybe you always write beginning with your day then writing how you felt about it. Or, your technique could be not to have a technique. Everyday you write in a completely different way from the day before. The point is that journaling a creative act. You be as creative as you want. Explore new things and give yourself a time to cope with life.
