Statement of Purpose
“The best way to predict the future is to create it” – Peter Drucker
Technology - application of practical science, driven by need. When people want to change, they usually turn first to the strategy of innovation. But what separates engineers from mere innovators is the ability to discriminate the importance of sustainable technological solutions for the future. My ability to be proactive in this matter makes me stand apart. In addition to finding out how a machine operates, I’ve always been interested in design aspects and monitoring the incipient faults occurring within machines. This urge has strengthened my ability to recognize the scope for improvement and also motivated me to look beyond the conventional functionalities of any machine.
Ever since my school days, I’ve been interested

To study the program, I had to overcome many a hurdle- such as the common entrance examination which I had to take alongside thousands of students. I passed the examination with flying colors. I took up Mechanical Engineering in Babaria institute of technology which is affiliated to the prestigious Gujarat Technological University. I chose Mechanical Engineering as my undergraduate major as I believed it had tremendous potential. Throughout my undergraduate program, I have maintained an excellent academic record. My undergraduate program has given me a wide and comprehensive exposure to numerous courses that I found interesting- namely, Kinematics of Machinery; Engineering Graphics; Machine Design Engineering; Finite Element Analysis; Mechanics of Solids; Automobile engineering; Thermodynamics; Robotics. I strongly believe in learning practically by doing; it is the hope of coming up with path breaking results through experimentation that I find very
I have chosen to pursue an education in Mechanical Engineering. My high school classes, visits to colleges, and research of different majors have led me to choose this field. Ever since taking AP Physics 1 in my junior year of High School, I have realized how much I enjoy problem solving through the use of many different aspects of physics. This interest has continued into my senior year, as I have chosen to take AP Physics 2. It is one of my favorite classes regardless of the coursework.
Truthfully, I have always been immersed in Physics studies since the first time I learn about it. I love the fact that by learning Physics, it can teach us how to think critically and help in solving unexpected problems that we encounter in our daily life. I found that mechanical engineering is the course that can help me continue my interest in this subject since it involved most of the concept in Physics such as mechanics, kinematics, and thermodynamics. Mechanical engineering is also appealing to me because I love to design new things as well as handling the machines and tools. I also believe that by specializing in this course, I can have the opportunity to handle various types of machine and therefore, the knowledge that is gained through this will become such a great assistance to me in creating and manufacturing my own systems in future.
Robert F. Kennedy’s famous words, “The purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better” from his book ‘Thirteen days’ captures the purpose of human life. It can be applied to engineering profession as well. Engineers strive hard to provide superior technological solutions to the pre-existing problems. I wished to become a part of the reason how things get developed better in the future. Thus, engineering became my obvious choice after my high school as it specifically catered to my ambition. Being highly interested in Physics and Mathematics, it seemed fairly natural that I choose Mechanical Engineering branch which primarily involves studying these wonderful subjects.
Staring at engine components of a car as well as holding a smartphone with almost unbelievable thickness fascinated me in many ways indirectly leaded me into getting to know more through different sources about machines ranging from transportation to communication devices. Two years of A-level preparation, further solidified my interest in this area as I found myself very fond of learning mathematics, physics and mechanics in particular. In addition, my curiosity in the operation and dynamics of objects naturally influences my choice of degree, leading me towards Engineering as it is a discipline which satisfy my own interest and most probably bring out the best of me.
Starting from the first steam engine, Aeolipile to today’s Mars rover, the transcendental pervasion of mechanical engineering has shaped the life on this planet as we know it today. This progress seems never ending as the new technologies are engendering ever new complex challenges. Therefore, merging of fundamental research with real world applications is demanding now more than ever. As a student of Mechanical Engineering, I am well aware of these facts and have decided to pursue an active career in cutting edge research. I am strongly motivated to undertake graduate studies in order to pursue an MS in Mechanical Engineering, which, I believe, will prepare me for my further study at the doctoral level.
Since high school I was incredibly passionate about being in leadership positions with aim of helping others to do something meaningful. Growing up in a family inclined towards the sciences, I have always been tinkering around with all kinds of gadgets. Hence when it came to take undergraduate studies, Mechanical engineering was the only natural choice. Prompted by my undergraduate education in mechanical engineering at highly reputed VIT University, Vellore where subjects like Manufacturing Processes, Industrial management and Operation research instilled in me a desire to delve deeper into the various specialties of mathematics and statistics. Over time I began to develop a penchant over these courses which had project components on a wide
Frankly, my family always encouraged me to become a doctor at the hospital, so I grew up having the dream of joining the Medicine School to fulfill my family’s ambition which I thought it was mine too. In grade 10, I was studying at night and suddenly the electricity went off and that made me think what if I am a doctor doing a life-and-death surgery for a patient and the power goes out. I thought about energy recourses and other medical equipment the doctors use, who made them? I started thinking that I can provide more services than doctors do. I can design and produce items that all use and provide reliable and sustainable energy for us all. From that night, I decided to study an engineering-related discipline, and upon completing high school and after consulting a Mechanical Engineering graduate who explicitly explained to me what mechanical Engineering is all about, I found that Mechanical Engineering is the best choice among the engineering fields.
“Did I win? Did I lose? Those are the wrong questions. The correct question is: Did I make my best effort?” If so, he says, “You may be outscored but you will never lose.”
My undergraduate program has given me a wide and comprehensive exposure to numerous courses that I found interesting- namely, Mechanics of Structure; Ship Structure; Motion and Control; Heat Transfer; Theory of Machines; Shipbuilding Materials; Optimization etc. I strongly believe in learning practically by doing; it is the hope of coming up with path breaking results through experimentation that I find very
Inheriting the initial interest from my father who is an engineer, I am determined to become an engineer myself since little. Loving science, I chose to major in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) for my undergraduate education in Tongji University without hesitation. Taking a broad range of elements as raw materials, MSE incorporates theoretical research into applications, and is extensively applied in various fields, such as automotive, civil engineering, etc. I was luckily trained strictly in Tongji University within a basic multidimensional framework involving theoretic teaching and scientific research.
The courses during my undergraduate studies taught me the basic engineering concepts in theory and practice. I chose an assortment of courses which
As a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate student with an ardent interest in the industrial work environment, I have learnt the principles of mechanical engineering those are applicable to most machines, tools and processes which naturally widens my scope of learning and research. This has intrigued me to explore the option of pursuing master’s course in Mechanical Engineering from your prestigious University, which I believe will not only supplement my knowledge that I have acquired but also provide me with the best possible platform for the attainment of my future goals. I draw my inspiration towards this field from my mechanical engineer father who serves as a Mechanical Supervisor in a government run organization, National Fertilizers Limited. He was the one who introduced me to machines like Lathe Machine, Gear Cutting Machine, Hydraulic Cutting Machine, Steam Turbines, Compressors etc. and plants like Steam Generation Plant, Ammonia Plant at a very impressionable age. This naturally triggered in me a desire to know more about what happens inside these machines and the reason behind their precise and accurate working. Also, my frequent visits to the industry enabled me to retain as well as enhance my keen interest in the field and thus, influenced me to pursue my undergraduate course in Mechanical Engineering.
I am Nileshkumar Luhar. Discovering and understanding how certain mechanical products work have attracted my attention for the longest time.
