Dentist Shoots Lion A dentist was hunting in Africa and shot a village’s favorite lion and is now in hiding to stay away from mobs. The dentist went underground so no one could call him or be around him. CNN knocked on the door of his house, but no one answered. Cecil’s killing does not appear to be the first time palmer has gotten into trouble while hunting for animal prizes. Palmer had stayed out of public sight while protesters and some patients targeted his office and homes. In addition to the protesters, Palmer had been targeted on social media, which he says has been tough on his wife and daughter who both felt threatened The name of the lion was Cecil. A horde of Cecil’s supporters wants the dentist’s head to be mounted on a wall. …show more content…
The lion didn’t immediately die. The lion lived another 40 hours until the hunters tracked him down and shot him with a gun. He was then skinned and beheaded. The dentist lured him out of the place with an animal attached to a car. The hunters tried to destroy the GPS collar that the lion was wearing. Both the guide and the property owner in Zimbabwe have been charged with participating in an illegal hunt. They both are looking at the possibility of jail time. But at this point it does not appear the country will seek to extradite Walter Palmer, nor charge him with any crime. The U.N. General Assembly passed a resolution calling on all countries to crack down on all illegal wildlife trafficking and poaching. A man by the same name and age, and from the same town, illegally killed a black bear. The individual pleaded guilty to making false statements knowingly to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and was sentenced to one year on probation and ordered to pay a fine of nearly three thousand dollars. Dentist told the Associated Press and Minnesota Star Tribune it's time to get his life back on track. In an interview Palmer restated his belief he acted legally. "If I had known this lion had a name and was important to the country," he said. "Obviously I wouldn't have taken
In the TED talk entitled “My Invention That Made Peace with Lions,” Richard Turere discusses how his invention helped his people make peace with the lions in his community. Turere is a thirteen year old boy who lives in Kenya. In his community everybody has livestock that they need to survive. The problem is that lions are eating the people’s livestock because there is no barrier between the wilderness and the village. Since the lions were eating the livestock, the people have been killing the lions.
Most herders kill the cows for revenge, but the lions are also very endangered. As a result, Richard makes the invention of lion lights to scare them away. While he explains how his invention works, he claims, “human
The boy is safe. Isn’t that what we wanted? But in return a gorilla a part of an endangered species is now dead. The zoo took many precautions so things like these wouldn’t happen. But it did. Should the parents have watched their son a little closer? Should the zookeepers have dealt with this in a different manner? I think that what’s done is done but for future mishaps, situations like these need to be dealt with
Out of nowhere, a lion from the forest entered the scene and jumped on the militants. The animal seized one of the attackers by the neck. Two other lions leapt at other militants who tried to attack the first lion, and the incident caused the assailants to flee.
While the story revolved around a majestic beast the bengal tiger “Richard Parker”, whose primal instinct was to survive at all costs. While in the end it is left up to the reader which story to believe one that included animals and the other with bleak reality of human murder and cannibalism. No matter which story the reader chose it still had the overall theme of tremendous courage and desire to
Between the rough treatment of the animals and the poor living conditions they faced, it was only a matter of time before someone lost their life. In 1686, a woman named Mary Jenkinson got too close to a lion. As she was petting its paw, the animal caught her arm in its mouth and tore it apart. Doctors amputated the mangled arm but Mary died shortly after the attack.
The author uses pathos to get people to feel sympathy for the family in the village who lost their son when he got mauled by a lion. This quote greatly supports the author's purpose for writing this article. Finally he supports this claim asserting people are too ignorant to make a feasible claim about the situation. He uses diction and parallel structure to appeal to pathos when stating, “Don’t tell us what to do with our animals when you allow your own mountain lions to be hunted to near extinction in the eastern United States. Don’t bemoan the clear-cutting of our forest when you turn yours into concrete jungles.” The author uses parallel structure when repeating, “Don’t “ to emphasise his overall point. He also uses diction to assert his claim when he uses the words, “extinction, bemoan, and concrete jungles”. He specifically used these words to get us to feel the injustice about how the Americans are acting about Cecil’s death. Overall, Nzou combines his condemnatory and critical tone with these appeals to effectively point out to the people who are “crying” about Cecil’s death that lions are harmful to people and killing lions happens all the time in the area. This article would be informative to the public who are outraged about Cecil’s death and
Cecil was poached by a man named Walter Palmer, which had caused a huge problem for the people of ZImbabwe. Due to Palmers inhumane desires for “ hunting” he selfishly took a life that did no wrong. Palmer claimed to be hunting but what he did was not considered to be hunting infact he lured Cecil out of the Nature Reserve, Cecil was not given a fair chance to live but was set up to be killed. Cecil was not meant to be killed, he was a tagged lion that was being studied. Cecil was a lion that was very popular, a life that should not have been taken away, he was not hurting anyone, he was in a nature reserve where he belonged but as for Walter Palmer he should have not been there. Palmer knew where he was, and what he was doing if he did not
I think in the story “Christian The Lion” and “Wild Home” by Tod Olson and Rebecca Kai Dotlich the Theme or big idea the articles share is that in both articles they are explaining to us that there is more than what meets the eyes another theme could be lions and other wild animals belong in the wild because in other people's perspective they thought that Christian was a scary bad lion but in the eyes of Ace and John he was a loveable friendly cute lion. I know this because the first thing the text says is “eventually christian would turn into a 500 pound lion with razor sharp claws and 4 inch fangs”. Next they said “a radio host tried to get christian to roar into a microphone but instead he started chewing up the wires” Finally if you are
In the article "Death Of Beloved Lion Heats Up Criticism Of Big Game Hunting." NPR. NPR, n.d. On Sept 23, I will be walking with my brother-in-law, Tim's team to End Alzheimer's. In addition to losing my mother to this disease, on Dec 26, 2016 I lost my lifelong friend from the day I was born, Marlene Hecht Richards, while she was fighting Alzheimer's. Cecil’s death was hard for everyone to understand and most people still haven’t gotten over it. Cecil, male, was killed at the age of 13 on July 1st 2015, which is old for a lion since an average adult age is 3-8 years-old. The hunter that killed Cecil was American Dr. Walter James Palmer who would go Big Game Hunting very commonly. Palmer killed Cecil by luring him away from the sanctuary, Hwange Game Reserve, and shot him with a bow and arrow, skinned him, then to make it worse, he decapitated him. Ever since Cecil’s death, Dr. Palmer has been nowhere to be found and protesters had even rioted outside of his
“The dentist couldn’t find any problem, but Lemon kept insisting, so the man finally shrugged and shot in the Novocain and yanked out a perfectly good tooth. There was some pain, no doubt, but in the morning Curt Lemon was all smiles.” (O’Brien pg. 84)
Prayer in public schools is one of the few issues in America. Most of America’s children attend public school. American’s continue to fight until this day whether or not if prayer is allowed in public schools. Students should be allowed to part voluntarily at the beginning of the day for many different reasons. School staff can not encourage a student’s prayer. Prayer before eating a meal is okay long as you’re not bothering others. Making prayer a part of the school day can be helpful. Some people think that prayer shouldn’t be included in the activities at school. The government thinks since prayer is being taught and recited at home, it should be kept at home. If they allowed prayer at school it would lead student’s thoughts and ideas in
It is well known that China is one of the biggest countries in the world in terms of area which covers an area around 9.4 million square kilometers, and also has the most heavily populated countries in the world with a population of 1.4 billion ( continue to increase ) between the years of 1950 - 2015 ( Population Research Institute, Morse.A , Feb 18, 2015 ). China's population is concentrated in the urban areas because of the availability of modern and civilized life, such as Beijing, capital city with 130 million of china’s population, which become the largest city most populous in the world in the year 2015 ( Population Research Institute, Morse.A , Feb 18, 2015 ). The number of 1.4 billion become a scary number in term of population in one country like China because to compare with other world’s population it’s equivalent to 19.22% of the total world population ( Population Research Institute, Morse.A , Feb 18, 2015 ) .
