Hunting: Sport or Murder Cecil the lion’s death was a tragic event that caused everyone to change their perspective on hunting. When I heard about this, I thought that this wasn’t hunting but instead animal cruelty and somewhat murder. So, in this essay I will be proving my point that Cecil’s death was murder and the hunter should be punished. Cecil’s death was hard for everyone to understand and most people still haven’t gotten over it. Cecil, male, was killed at the age of 13 on July 1st 2015, which is old for a lion since an average adult age is 3-8 years-old. The hunter that killed Cecil was American Dr. Walter James Palmer who would go Big Game Hunting very commonly. Palmer killed Cecil by luring him away from the sanctuary, Hwange Game Reserve, and shot him with a bow and arrow, skinned him, then to make it worse, he decapitated him. Ever since Cecil’s death, Dr. Palmer has been nowhere to be found and protesters had even rioted outside of his …show more content…
Palmer isn’t the only human on this planet that has hunted lions for Big Game prizes. Statistics have shown that the population of lions in Africa has been reduced by half since the early 1950s. Fewer than 21,000 lions are alive with many still being hunted and poached to this day. Most animals that are hunted die for horrible reasons because only portions of their organs or their body are sold or used. I understand that hunting was used and still is used as our source of providing food, and I also understand that most hunters like to go for big hunts so they can hopefully kill an animal and display it so they can show off and take pride in their hunt, but it’s not okay to kill an animal that is dying at an incredible rate and think that it’s acceptable. To conclude, I think it’s okay to hunt but it’s not okay to kill animals that are going extinct because we are going to one day eventually wipe out the populations of the animals dying
At age 17, a muzzle loader elk hunt in Nevada was one of the coolest things that could have ever happened to me. And a muzzleloader tag for the Jarbidge Wilderness Area 072 was one of the most awesome places for it to happen.
Many people consider hunting dangerous. This is not necessarily correct. Before any person is legally allowed to hunt in most states, they must undergo a required
I am playing the Anti Hunter Activist role in animal rights. I am going to be fighting against people who do hunting, fur trapping, pigeon shooting and Alaskan Wolf hunts. I will be dressing up in camo and have a big red line through it to show that I am against Anti- hunting activist. The props I will use to show how hunters use animal props. I will use an intimal letter made out animal antlers, Uggs that are made out of sheep skin. I will also use a handout out that better explains fur trapping and pigeon shooting.
One early saturday morning my dad (Shawn), my cousin (trey), and I woke up at 2:30 a.m. to go duck hunting. When we get out there we are one of the first people there and 4:00 comes along and we sent out to our spot. When we come to a spot that boats can't go we have to walk for about 15 minutes. As we are putting out the last of are decoys we here so more people throwing out decoys and they are pretty close. Well, we start talking to them and they are pretty nice and they ask if they can hunt with us and we said yes. Then, daylight comes and a group of ducks come in and we shot but I was the only one that killed one that we could find and it´s a drake which is a male mallard. Then, my dad shoots and we could not find his ducks.
Hunting has been a part of life for many since the beginning of time, but in this generation some hunting has transformed into a barbaric and cruel practice. The sport of hunting has begun to invade the lives of many endangered species, which has drawn much concern. And in recent news, a Minnesota dentist was caught hunting a protected lion in Zimbabwe. The death of this particular lion has produced a deep shock throughout the entire world and people are now on the hunt for him to charge him for his wrongdoings. The article “US should forbid the import of lion ‘trophies’” not only informs readers of the recent crime involving the Minnesota Dentist, but also encourages a restriction that prevents hunters from bringing home their kills. This
Zimbabwean officials claim that the thirteen year old lion was lured from his home on protected land, and was then wounded with an arrow shot by Palmer. The black-maned lion was then allegedly pursued for 40 hours before finally being killed.
According to the National Public Radio article by Barbara J. King, “Raising Voices for Cecil the Lion” from July 30, 2015, people around the world are calling for justice for the iconic lion from Zimbabwe. The article says that Walter Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota, legally paid to have a group of locals take him hunting in Zimbabwe. However, the locals, either with or without Palmer’s help, illegally lured Cecil out of the Hwange National Park to kill him. Palmer then shot the lion with an arrow, tracked him for hours, and killed him with a rifle. The local
The author uses pathos to get people to feel sympathy for the family in the village who lost their son when he got mauled by a lion. This quote greatly supports the author's purpose for writing this article. Finally he supports this claim asserting people are too ignorant to make a feasible claim about the situation. He uses diction and parallel structure to appeal to pathos when stating, “Don’t tell us what to do with our animals when you allow your own mountain lions to be hunted to near extinction in the eastern United States. Don’t bemoan the clear-cutting of our forest when you turn yours into concrete jungles.” The author uses parallel structure when repeating, “Don’t “ to emphasise his overall point. He also uses diction to assert his claim when he uses the words, “extinction, bemoan, and concrete jungles”. He specifically used these words to get us to feel the injustice about how the Americans are acting about Cecil’s death. Overall, Nzou combines his condemnatory and critical tone with these appeals to effectively point out to the people who are “crying” about Cecil’s death that lions are harmful to people and killing lions happens all the time in the area. This article would be informative to the public who are outraged about Cecil’s death and
In this paper, the author will be informing the reader about the ethics of hungting. It will include topics such as the ethics of bow hunting, rifle hunting, and waterfowl hunting. It will also give the reader information on how to hunt them as well.
Deer hunting with dogs should be legal because of a few reasons. One being that the deer has a fair chance of survival. Many people think that deer hunting with dogs is bad because the deer does not have a chance after a dog picks up its' scent. However, the dog does not know where it is chasing the dog.
Have you ever wanted to go hunting in the summer when you are free of work and activities? Is it a problem that you would be interested in to change? I would like to change this law so I could go hunting when I am able to. Deer season all year round is important to all the hunters and wannabe hunter. I want to change the law that you can only hunt in one season because it is making deer being overpopulated, It would let people who are busy during the season hunt, and It would make deer meat sell more at restaurants. The first issue is that deer are becoming very overpopulated.
If you’re interested in becoming a deer hunter, you might want to consider the weather conditions and best times to get in and out of the woods. The different times/weather can be used as a strategy to reach your goal.
First of all, for trophy hunting should not be allowed because rules aren’t allows followed. When Cecil the lion got lured out of the park, the lion wasn’t even supposed to be lured out nor killed. This just proves some of the people don’t follow laws and some are dirty. Another reason how people don’t follow the rules is killing animals that can still breed. Some animals are endangered
The earliest case of humans hunting can be documented as far back as 2 million years proving it is completely natural for predators to kill for food or for clothing however in the past 100 years there's been a huge boom of Trophy Hunting. This type of recreational hunting has been substantially declining many species, as well taking money away from communities that need the income from tourism and does not in anyway provide clothing food or any other use than being a decorative souvenir “Since the 1940s, when lions numbered an estimated 450,000, lion populations have blinked out across the continent. Now they may total as few as 20,000 animals.” In the past 80 years there has been a dramatic decrease in the lion population. This is an animal that is not primarily eaten and had a large impact from trophy hunting. When a species has such few numbers the variation of their gene pool becomes less different which can cause animals to have birth defects or diseases that can kill entire prides. Trophy Hunting calls for the leaders of the pride to be killed so they have the best prize to take back for their wall or as a rug, which means that the next alpha
Bow hunting is a primordial technique designed by the ancient Africans. At first it was used as a means of hunting for food and other essential tools that could be created from animal parts. The design was ahead of its time because of it's simplicity, due to this it would evolve as the primary weapon of projectile warfare. The cheap and simple design creates a weapon that is easy to use, but hard to conquer. In order to master the ancient art of bow hunting, you must follow these rigorous training exercises.
