The Black Lives Matter movement is a rally dedicated to “Black Lives”, minorities, who are not treated equally by their community with the intent of causing change in order to have equal justice and opportunities. This movement revolves around the idea of laboratories of democracy because as a community they seek out the injustice and put into question the relation with the issue; thus, allowing the people to support their ideas and convince others that racial injustice exists. Similarly, as a community they are able to build upon an overall understanding on the inequality which prepare the people to question the idea of democracy they have lived by. An excerpt from The Huffington Post inquires the equality demonstrated in the judicial court,
According to my text book, civil disobedience is the voluntarily breaking established laws based on one’s moral belief. I strongly believe that civil disobedience is never justified, regardless of the situation. Yes, something might be wrong according to your morals, but laws are in place to prevent chaos. All these events mentioned; war protesters, anti-abortion activist, Civil Rights Movement, Black Lives Matter Movement, Charlottesville, Confederate statues, so on and so forth has created chaos throughout the United States.
In spite of the fact that Black Lives Matter sends a clear message that African Americans are being targeted in America, some disagree with the movement's approach and its exclusion of other ethnic groups. Former editor and columnist for USA Today, Barbara Reynolds, uses the Washington Post to share her views toward Black Lives Matter movement. In her article, she expresses "I support BLM's cause, but not its approach." She illustrates on how BLM's approach is remotely defying and disgraceful to proven methods of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's nonviolent tradition. As a former civil rights activist, Reynolds feels like BLM opposes the structure of peaceful protesting in regards to BLM's "demonstration peppered with hate speeches, profanity, and
In 2013,George Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges after wrongfully killing an innocent black teenager, Trayvon Martin. As a result, the Black Lives Matter movement, which started as a hashtag on twitter, emerged as the modern day civil rights movement. Over the past decade, BLM activists gave a new voice and platform to marginalised communities, especially the black community. They organized manifestations, protests and sit-ins that were very successful. For example, BLM organized demonstrations in Ferguson that caught national attention after another white officer wrongfully killed Michael Brown a year later. Black lives Matter’s agenda also included meetings and discussions with law enforcers on how to ameliorate policing in these communities.
“ A Look into the Values of The Black Lives Matter Socio – Political Movement”
A necessary and common fight for equality has been one that has survived throughout all of man’s existence. Due to recent racial divide and the product of racial profiling, a movement has risen up to combat these common issues. The most recent and most well-covered is the Black Lives Matter Movement. Even though it has been lauded by some media sources and individuals as the next great movement to champion for civil rights, the Black Lives Matter movement is not the same as the African-American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s nor is it likely to be as successful. If the Black Lives Matter Movement continues with discrepancies in ideology, lack of clear leadership, and trends of hate, the movement is doomed to fail.
In the United States, there has been many cases of Racial injustice. From the beginning of the start of the United States of America it was the injustice to the Native Americans being captured and used for slave labor while their bison be slaughtered for sportsmanship. But this paper is on the specific race of the African Americans. There are many races that have been racially profiled and ostracized by the English people. But the treatment that African Americans have endured even till this day is disheartening. African Americans have gone through enslavement during the early 1600’s to the mid 1800’s. Then the African Americans were obstructed by the Jim Crow laws creating the ‘Separate but Equal” propaganda during the late 1800’s into the 1960’s. After the abolishment of the Jim Crow Laws, people were considered equal until the recent actions of many police officers using deadly force on African American youths in the early 2000’s.
In my research paper I will be addressing a movement known as “Black Lives Matter”. The topic of my paper will be discussing the oppression of African Americans in America. I will approach this topic by researching civil rights movements from the past that are similar to the current black lives matter movement. My research methods will include analyzing interviews from activist who participated in civil rights movement, reading articles and books for information on the topic. I will identify race issues in America between African Americans and whites. The goal of this research paper is to prove that the Black Lives Matter movement is the start of a new civil rights movement.
Currently ,The “Black Lives Matter” movement is failing, and they could learn a lot from the Civil Rights Movement that took place in the 1950s. The Civil Rights Movement proved that in order to make change through protest a group must have a brand, and a clear and respected leader. The current “Black Lives Matter” movement lacks these aspects but they can be obtained through reorganization.
What is Black Lives Matter? Black Lives Matter is a movement founded by Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza. It was created to fight anti-Black Racism, systematic oppression and violence against the Black community.
The current political climate in America over the death of unarmed black men has led to our generation newest current civil rights movement, Black Lives Matter. The purpose of Black Lives Matter is “to build local power and to intervene when violence was inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes...and to imagining and creating a world free of anti-Blackness, where every Black person has the social, economic, and political power to thrive”(Black Lives Matter). The Black Lives Matter movement seeks to achieve a society where African Americans don’t have to fear racial profiling, fear being killed by police officers, or to judge by the color skin and not by their character. This movement came after the death of Trayvon Martin
The Black Lives Matter movement is a movement that wants to liberate the inequality that the black community faces, yet to Tomi Lahren, the Black Lives Matter movement is equal to the sadistic and twisted views of the KK. Black Lives Matter is not a hate group. Many misinterpret the purpose of Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter is a voice for the oppressed, the movement is an important artifact in the history of civil rights movement, and unites not only black lives but all lives.
When a subculture enters into a society, most of the time their core values are not seen as important to the dominant group. The subculture’s values have a lower chance of being understood and their beliefs will always be blocked out as well as be pushed away. Take the Blavk Lives matter movement for example. Black Lives Matter not only increased African American unity, it was created to promote the importance of African American lives since lately they have been seen as not being important. In my opinion, ever since this movement was created and increased, there has been more hate toward the African American people. When the movement was first created is talked down upon by dominant groups and those people ever truly understood the meaning of this. In fact there has always been controversy over the movements meaning. People who were not a part of African American culture believed that were only promoting black lives and no one else. Instead African Americans were tired of their lives being taken away without much reason. The Black Lives Matter movement would be the result of a subculture coming together to broadcast to society their core values.
Picture yourself being in an African American shoes, you’re walking out of a store and a white off duty police officer accuses you of stealing from the store. As you defend yourself by telling the officer that you did no such thing, this accusation starts becoming violent. As the officer calls for back up, he has you on the ground, you then start realizing that this officer accused you of something you didn’t do, automatically assuming that you did such thing because of your color. (Making you question yourself on why)Why is it that we have people in this world to automatically assume that they have higher priorities than any other race out there in this world just because of their ethnicity. Is it the fact that parents don’t do their job to
The Black Lives Matter movement has swept across America. It 's branched out with chapters in over 31 cities and held rallies and boycotts across the United States(Sidner). The Black Lives Matter movement started with the outrage of the death of a young man. It continues to take over headlines and raise awareness on police brutality and inequality. However, the movement has met resistance from the All Lives Matter group. This group thinks that Black Lives Matter is a movement to express hatred towards other races. However, statistics, the views of fellow citizens, and the overall purpose of the Black Lives Matter movement, can prove that the movement wasn 't meant to express hate on other races and that we need to support the movement instead of going against it.
The black lives matter movement has been in the news is a major social movement since Mike Brown was shot in Ferguson Missouri. Since that event, there have been many spin-offs to the black lives matter cause. White lives matter, blue lives matter, and Hispanic lives matter. This has become a more divisive idea instead of being a cause that can invoke change. Given my background and personal experience, all lives matter; even the ones that wear bulletproof vests and guns on their hip.
