The Iota Chapter of Delta Zeta Delta Zeta Iota was brought to the University of Iowa in 1912. In 1999, Delta Zeta left Campus and recolonized in 2001. Since the recolonization, our chapter has been able to complete some massive accomplishments, considering that the Greek Community here at Iowa is different than many other universities. We have consistently been one of the smallest PHC chapters on campus over the last 15 years. In 2014, my class was the largest Delta Zeta had bid. In 2015, Delta Zeta gave out the most bids for fall formal recruitment. That was supposed to be the turning point; we were just as big as everyone else and we needed to rise to the occasion. I joined Delta Zeta in the fall of 2014, after formal recruitment. …show more content…
Our recruitment chair is helping others envision our chapter with new women that are smart, want to be active and engaged, and that are fun people. By realigning the women we want to represent our chapter, we have been able to get our members to be more optimistic towards next fall. We are also having more workshops and retreats that discuss what we, as a chapter need to improve and how we can get there. Those conversations have been so helpful in encouraging everyone and in showing them that the executive board does not make all of the decisions. We need their help because technically we serve their best interests. By enlisting the help of everyone, they are starting to re-realize that Delta Zeta is important to them and that we all love each other. That disconnect, people feeling like they don’t belong, is something that takes hardly anytime to fix. That starts by every member saying hello on campus or knowing each other’s names. Right now, we are doing a good job of inspiring a shared vision of our chapter growing. Challenge the …show more content…
We have to answer to 100+ people for our actions. I implemented a new point system this semester. I am in charge of attendance and we were really lacking. We brought back fines as an incentive for our members to come to chapter, money motivates everyone. And then we made all events: socials, sisterhoods, philanthropies, FSL Events, and educationals, points. If a member gains x amount of points, they get to attend a really fun event. That decision made a lot of people angry, the people that did not want to fully participate in the things all members of Delta Zeta should do. However, it motivated the middle segment to get out and be a face in the FSL community. Over 60% of our chapter is able to go to the banquet on Saturday, and I hope that number rises in the following semesters. We are also reaching out to every IFC fraternity on campus to have socials and non-alcs with. By doing so, we are risking rejection to meet new people and foster new relationships. I’m excited to see who takes us up on that and how we can branch out. We are not an unpopular sorority. We follow the rules and are smaller, and we generally do not try to meet other chapters outside of our four main
Viral videos of fraternity and sorority members partying and getting drunk off of beer might be the first images of Greek Life that pop into your mind, but that’s only a stereotype. There are nine historically black Greek letter organizations across the country that present an entirely different image of Greek life. Focusing on their multiple involvement on campus, National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) members are proactive in the community and on USCA’s campus.
When becoming an Alum of the best university, Oklahoma State University, I want to continue to support the university that helped to further my future. Spreading the word of the opportunities that Oklahoma State offers has a large impact on the number of students that attend this university. I plan to let many potential students know what this college has done and continues to do for me. I would love to see that Alpha Zeta has a large role in campus activities, and continues to grow membership each year. With a large student involvement, and respect among campus this organization has only a bright
These organizations have played pivotal rolls in the Montgomery Bus Boycott, met with presidents, open clinics and so many other phenomenal things in history. Once being initiated into these organizations you are responsible to carry on this legacy of providing service. But upon graduation it is not mandatory to stay active in the chapter. Graduation is quickly approaching for the seniors that are apart of Divine Nine and they now face the question “Do I remain active?”
Specifically taking the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority into account in present day. It is quite evident that the purpose and message from the earlier founders of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority still live on today. I interviewed Kayse Cuevas, a twenty-one-year-old senior at Oklahoma State University. She is a current and active member in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. I asked Cuevas if she had any family members that were Deltas and she confirmed that she in fact did. Cuevas has a cousin that’s a Delta and her grandmother’s best friend is also a Delta. When asked what motivated her to become a Delta her response was inspiring. Cuevas said that her grandmother’s best friend is nearing her eightieth year of life and is still extremely active within the organization with helping in the community
This is something that I, and certainly all of you, feel very strongly about. I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to help lead this fraternity, and especially in furthering our core values and specific expertise. Joining Delta Sigma Pi has been the best decision I have made since being here at Longwood.
It was not until after I became an initiated sister to Delta Zeta that I truly got involved. One night during Chapter our President at the time started to discuss all the different positions that were available for the upcoming year. While listening to this list one position in particular caught my eye, it was a position to be the sisterhood chair, which includes planning enjoyable events that all the sisters want to be apart in. I love creating, planning, and organizing so sisterhood chair was the right position for me. During my time in this position I planned a cook out, a trip to the haunted corn maze, sisterhood retreat, and much more. This year I applied to be our Chapters VP of Programs with in this position I make our calendar for the
If it was not for prayer, God, and my family. I would not be typing the interested letter today. The founders of Delta Sigma Theta took an initiative to make a difference each program under the five point thrust impact people all over the world. When asked why Delta Sigma Theta over any other sorority. Delta Sigma Theta does not just impact African American women lives in their community they change and impact lives all over the world male and female.
When one first thinks of Greek life or a sorority the only thing that comes to mind is the social aspect. Most people don’t think of sororities as social institutions that envelop their own culture, with mannerisms, languages and customs that are unique to each individual organization. However, these institutions promote a common set of values that enable members to become connected in a way that has a more profound meaning than just social interaction. Greek organizations are good examples of how institutions can affect and be affected by social status and roles within the collegiate community. They are also a prime example of how race, class and gender can affect a social setting in both positive and negative manners.
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter’s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. I learned to appreciate every opportunity to learn and gain knowledge because in some parts of the world girls are restricted from receiving an education. A
I want to take this moment to sincerely apologize for letting you down. Starting from recruitment week and bid night, you all made it very clear how important understanding the Delta Sigma Pi purpose is. It is not just a paragraph we memorize. It is the embodiment of what you do as a member of Delta Sigma Pi every single day. You foster the study of business by pushing us to communicate and learn about the business world and how to prepare for it. You encourage us to work together so that we can all develop our strengths and weaknesses through this trial period called pledging. You provide opportunities for us to better understand the commercial world and how we may become part of it in the future. And lastly, you show us how to help our community
We are in the process of making an impact at the University of Northern Colorado to gain Zeta presence which will be one of our focuses for this year. UNC is hosting a Greek BBQ on Wednesday, Aug 26, 2015 starting at 4:30 p.m. We will have a table to display Zeta information and intermingle with the students. With this being our first knowledge of Zeta for some student and we haven’t been there in a while lets show our strength in numbers. We are leaving the Denver area around 3 p.m. if you are available we would love for you to join us. Please let us know your intentions so we can arrange carpooling. Please wear you paraphernalia.
Living and being an example of the ritual in my everyday life is of my highest priorities. My commitment to this fraternity is unquestionable; I have attended four PIKE University events despite only being a member for a little over a year. I attend these events to better myself, my fraternity, and my community. I know that I can best represent the undergraduate members of our fraternity through the lessons and experiences I gained at PIKE University events. Attendance at these events provides exposure to multiple chapters and the trials and tribulations they face as well as the success stories. I can take their concerns and formulate plans to solve them, all the while using the principles and interest of the International Fraternity as
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of my interest in becoming a member of the Nu Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. My desire to have the opportunity to become a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity incorporated is grounded on encounters, characteristics and the prestige purpose and history of the fraternity.
The Zeta Zeta Zeta chapter has made a significant change over the year and should be recognized as “Graduate Chapter of the Year” based on some of the requirements for the award as well as our many accomplishments as chapter. As Basilues of the chapter I have taken Zeta Zeta Zeta Chapter into another level of our chapters future by more utilizing more electronic avenues of Zeta Visibility, with Twitter, Facebook, Google +, Youtube, Pinterest, Instagram and a updated website. Not only are the Zetas, Amicae and youth auxiliaries are informed but so are those who like us and follow us. We are a tighter nit team and utilize those with specific skill sets to promote Zeta Zeta Chapter. We have made a point to market ourselves and to make sure we attend as many community and Greek functions to show our support to others. Zeta Zeta Zeta Chapter strives for excellence at all times as a chapter and is rewarded as such within our chapter through the recognition committee
Represent what the chapter and the Fraternity stand for to others on campus and in the community.
