Definition on Extracurricular Activities Extracurricular activities allow students to pursue interests outside of a standardized context (Strate,1996). Extracurricular activities are the activities that caters the students’ voluntary involvement that is situated at the external realm of the academic curriculum of a school or in a university. In my point of view, extracurricular activities are what shape a student into what they are or become. SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization that helps students obtain the leadership, hands on, professional, and employability skills that America is searching for. Although at first, students do not find this extracurricular activity as interesting as a sport, they fail to recognize that this organization is for students and ran by students. As Pope John Paul II said, “The future starts today, not tomorrow.” Today, I know that SkillsUSA is helping me take a step closer to what I want to do in my
Since Early College High School was founded in the year 2006, the school and its students have always been at disadvantage. The school has lacked several opportunities such sports, scholarship opportunities, etc. However, a topic that has been the spotlight of discussion amongst students over the course of eleven years has been the lack of extracurricular activities. This problem does not only affect students, but it rather affects faculty members as well. Although there has been a slow but gradual increase in solving this problem, this change has come forth at a lengthy rate. It has been 11 years since change has been prompted, and although the current students are benefiting from this change, there have been several generations of

A metaphorical barrier, represented by extracurricular activities, stands between the classroom and the opportunities the world has to offer. In the classroom, information is absorbed and consequently memorized with the hope of acing a test or submitting an impeccable paper. On the other hand, extracurricular activities offer first-hand experience of lessons learned in life; the final assessment is not a final exam but rather, extracurriculars change one’s identity. All throughout high school I participated in athletics, volunteered with different organizations, pursued music and challenged myself intellectually in academic competitions. In participating in these extracurricular activities, I escaped the classroom and took a step into the real

When most people get to the “extracurricular activities” section of a college application, they just list all the things that they were able to do and don’t put any thought in it. It looks great, because it shows that you can not only do your school work, but balance other activities as well. But what we don’t understand is that many kids never get that chance to participate in these activities, and therefore they don’t get to fill out that section and they get left behind.

So why are extracurricular activities important? Extracurricular activities shape how a person acts within him or herself, in the community, and their performance in school. Schools should highly encourage every student to be in some type of activity (Hollrah).

I can't describe how much that experience has had an impact on my ability to manage time, my health, and my success as a student.
