What is the first thought that comes to mind when you hear the word friendship? The word could be defined several different ways. In this instance, the word friendship can be compared to the root of a tree. A tree has several components, but the root is what makes the actual tree. A friendship is normally formed at an early age, but as people grow older and wiser, the word becomes more defined. The word is not commonly used as …show more content…
Friends encourage others by giving the confidence to complete any task that is put in their path. They are there to cheer you on even when you feel like giving up on life. According to Oxford dictionaries, encourage means to persuade a person to do or continue to do something by giving support and advice. (Oxford University Press, 2017) For example, if an individual feels as if they are overwhelmed by school and work, friends will contribute a word of encouragement to help pull a person through their most stressful times. In addition, friends can also inspire others into doing the unimaginable. They can inspire one another to pursue their career or even go back to school. Friendship is a sentimental bond between two people. Humans are social animals. It is difficult for them to stay away from their fellow beings. To survive they seek the warmth and comfort of each other. The positive emotional bonds (other than by blood) formed between them are known as bonds of friendship. True friendship is not just a "relationship", but self-sacrificing love. A friend is also one who supports, sympathizes, and is a person in whom you can confide. There are unique qualities that a person must have to be considered a friend.
A true friendship is being able to be beside your friend through the challenges that might come that are either bad or good situations. People have different definitions of friendship, but this one is mine.

Friendship is a kind of virtue, or implies virtue, and it is also most necessary for living. Nobody would choose to live without friends even if he had all the other good things there are, however, not a few divergent views about friendship. Some hold that it is a matter of similarity: that our friends are those who are like ourselves others take the contrary view.
“Friendship is a virtue or at least involves virtue. It is necessary to life, since no one would choose to live without friends even if he had all other material goods. Friends are a refuge in times of poverty and misfortune; they help to guard the young from error; they help the old in their weakness, and help those in the prime of life to perform noble actions.” –Aristotle
