What is happiness? Every individual has his definition of happiness according to his needs and preferences in life. It is, therefore, quite difficult to come up with a generalized definition of happiness. However, happiness can be defined as combining various satisfactions in life and experiencing more positive than the negative emotions (Elkrief 23). To be happy, individuals should use their strengths to ensure that they contribute to a larger purpose in life. That is why volunteers are happier than those whom they help because they have used their strengths to fulfill a better purpose in life. Many people in the world seek for the best and the most luxurious things in life including expensive cars, houses, voyages, and good paying jobs thinking that these things will make them happy. However, once they achieve these things, they become more miserable than ever before. Education and a good income could only have a small effect on happiness. The reason is that happiness is more concerned with daily interactions rather than achievements in an individual’s lifetime. The OS, however, has to leave after some time, and they bid each other goodbye. The experience that Theodore learns from this OS teaches him to forgive, and he writes a letter apologizing to his wife. At the end of the movie, he is seen to be happier enjoying the sunset with a
In my point of view, happiness often define a happy person as someone who experiences frequent positive emotions, such as joy, interest, and pride. Regardless of where you are on the happiness spectrum, each person has their own way of defining happiness. Philosophers, actors, politicians, and everybody in between have all weighed in on their own view of happiness. For instance, Dr. Shefali Tsabary, psychologist and author, said: "Only when we fill our own need and feel satiated from within can we truly be fulfilled and
Defining happiness can be very difficult. Everyone has their own perspective of happiness. When speaking about your own perspective it could crash into another’s. Trying to find which one makes the most sense is complicated.
People travel through life with what seems like a single goal: to be happy. This may seem like a selfish way to live, however this lone objective is the motivation behind nearly all actions. Even seemingly selfless deeds make people feel better about themselves. That warm feeling experienced while doing charitable acts can be described as happiness. But what is authentic happiness? There is an endless possibility of answers to this question, and man seems to be always searching for the solution. Although one may reach his or her goals, there is always still something one strives for in order to be happy. In the book Stumbling on Happiness, Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert takes the reader through
According to the Dictionary, “happiness is the mental or emotional state of well being which can be defined by others. A pleasurable or satisfying experience.”. Of course that’s true, the feeling of happiness is what it’s scientifically defined as, but happiness is much more than that. Many people show happiness in many ways from a smile to a laugh, but do we really know what’s behind our happiness? Happiness is derived from the old English word, hap, which means lucky. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary describes happiness as “a state of well-being and contentment”; “a pleasure or satisfying experience” (“happy”). “Happiness encompasses living a meaningful life, utilizing your gifts and your time, living with thought and purpose” (Flora). This is the physiological definition of the word happiness which is agreed upon by neuroscientists, psychiatrists, behavioral economists, positive psychologists, and Buddhist monks. Overall, there are two different types of happiness, one is attitude and the other is a
I define happiness as being the one and only creator of your own experience, choosing to take pleasure in what you have, right now, regardless of the circumstances, while being the best you that you can be. Happiness is feeling safe and supported no matter what your doing, and not being ashamed of who you are. Finally, happiness is, fundamentally, a choice. Your choice.
The definition of happiness is “feeling or showing pleasure or contentment” (Dictionary.com). That’s what the items have, happiness. Everyone has different views about the definition of happiness. Some people think that happiness is to have a lot of money ,and others think supreme power is the greatest happiness. However, these two kinds of points are not what I want , though I like money and power. Former American president Franklin Roosevelt has said "happiness lies not in the mere possession of money ;it lies in the joy of achievement ,in the thrill of creative effort".As he said, having a lot of money just gives us material satisfaction, but the kind of joy and satisfaction that comes from the heart is true happiness. In present-day society we need money to live, if we have no money we wouldn't be able to survive ,so without the protection of basic materials, happiness is a joke. Therefore, from the premise of ensuring a material foundation,I think happiness is that my family will always be with me.As the French woman writer George San said "there is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved".I love my family, and they love me too,I hope I can live with them forever.Honor my parents, do not wait until I lose them only to realize how to cherish them.
Everyone wants happiness, but we all have different perspectives on how to be happy. What everyone does agree on is that anybody can be happy. Being happy has no financial requirements; it doesn’t matter if you’re rich, poor, or in the middle. People around the world are happy in different situations. Happiness is about the life that you live and the experiences you share with each other. It’s about people and not about objects or what you can buy. You can buy all the objects in the world, but they will be emotionally worthless without the experiences behind it.
