If I had been living in the English colonies at the time of the Second Continental Congress, I would have been willing to support the Declaration of Independence in July, 1776 because the people of the United States of America had been putting up with an inoperable government, the King of Britain, King George the third wanted to take all the power away from the people and would not listen to our leaders. The colonists, had to pay unfair taxes, and the King was a cruel, unfair man. The first major issue that makes me willing to support the Declaration of Independence is that the people of the United States of America had been putting up with an inoperable government, the King of Britain, King George the third wanted to take all the power away from the people and would not listen to our leaders. One fact that proves the people of the United States had been putting up with an inoperable government is that King George the third has ignored the laws of our American Government. King George the third has created his own set of laws, and he has refused to sign laws that our leaders have written.Another fact that proves the people of the United States had been putting up with an inoperable government is that King George has taken control of the Judges in our court system. One fact that proves that the King was a cruel, unfair man is that he took the ships of his people, burned their villages and killed many people. Another fact that proves he is a cruel, unfair man is that he carried out several acts of war. He also caused a rift between slaves and their owner, made the slaves angry and violent, and tried to convince the Indians to go to war against the colonists. This is a major issue because a King should never kill anyone unless it's an act of self defense. A King also shouldn’t be committing crimes like burning villages and taking
The Declaration of Independence is among the most profoundly interpreted and fiercely discussed documents in modern history. Most likely because of its rhetorical style and numerous fallacious arguments that are found. The colonists’ use of persuasion to influence by using repetition to achieve their means. The Declaration of Independence is what 56 colonists saw as a logical course of action. What you must ask yourself is: What was considered logical in 1776?
On July 4, 1776, in Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson wrote a declaration of the colonies’ independence and separation from England. To approve or deny the “Declaration of Independence” is presented to the Second Continental Congress. Jefferson declares that the colonists deserve “unalienable rights” and that the colonists should be able to “throw off” any government that displays “absolute tyranny.” This document leads the way for the formation of the new “independent states”, where colonists can find “their safety and happiness.” Therefore, Jefferson persuades the colonists to join him in the separation from Britain to claim their rights and accuses King George as a tyrant.
American colonists should support the Declaration of Independence and the Patriots in the Revolutionary War. Great Britain was taxing the American colonists because of Britain’s great debt from the French and Indian War. Britain made the quartering act, the stamp act, townshend act, and the tea act. This is taxation without representation and it was unjust. The Patriots were angry and rightfully so. The King was making the colonists pay taxes on imported goods to decrease his country’s debt, the Patriots were outraged and wanted freedom.
Looking back at American History, we can see many instances where bravery and courage combined with a leap of faith changed the course of our country's history. The declaration of independence was perhaps the most significant of all those actions. In the late 1700's Britain began abusing their colonies in America, this did not sit well with the colonists, and soon people could no longer endure such unfairness and hardship. The founding fathers were more than justified to declare independence from Britain, liberating the people of America from the tyranny and abuse of the British crown.
Constitution insisted that governments exist to safeguard the natural rights of the citizen. The French
It was crystal clear that there were too much corrupt practices which were too unfair for the population in the colonies. Due to this reason, it was justifiable that people did a revolution against King who was a “tyrant”. Some may think that Thomas Jefferson’s action was not right when he did the Declaration of Independence. Nevertheless, Jefferson was able to justify this ways. There were a lot of abuses that the King did to the colonists. Even if the colonists tried to make some consensus with the King he ignored them so they revolted against him. For Thomas Jefferson, any government that were destructive of life, freedom and the pursuit of happiness the citizens had the right to declare revolution to remove it from its authority. For Great Britain, it was an abusive government that asked the colonies to pay taxes so they could compensate their losses from the war. While asking taxes from the colonies, the British government did give the colonists any right to be represented in the Parliament. This only exhibits that the British government was only concerned about their mother country and did not pay attention to the needs of their colonies. For this fact, declaring of independence was a better choice as far as the point of view of Thomas Jefferson because the colonies were not developing much under Britain. Although the colonies were making a lot of money and can be economically independent, their hands were still tied from Britain. In order for the colonies to grow and develop, they need to be independent from their mother country which was
By issuing the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the thirteen American colonies severed their connections with Great Britain. The Declaration summarized the colonists’ motivations for seeking independence. By declaring themselves an independent nation, the colonists were able to confirm an official alliance with the Government of France and obtain French assistance in the war against Great Britain. I argue for the independence of the colonies because I agree that it is unfair for them to be under British rule and pay for unfair taxes when they had their own political goals and motivations they wanted to accomplish.
The Declaration of Independence was formed resulting from the treatment of 13 colonies from the British government without representation after subsequent denials to be represented and treated equal. This historic document was revolutionary because it’s what began the transition of our government into a democracy unlike that of parliament in the 1700’s. The British government and their ruling made decisions that didn’t involve what was right for the people; only what was in the best economic interest of parliament. This caused significant hardships on the American colonies which eventually led to them coming together as a people and forming this declaration.
There were many reasons why the colonists felt they had to make the Declaration Of Independence. One of these reasons was they felt they were paying for a military that they really didn’t need. Another one of these reasons was because the british kept placing unfair taxes on the colonists. Finally the last reason was they wanted the right to govern
So, It has three days since news passed of the Declaration of Independence and I have been thinking about it since. It was and is still very shocking to hear that the colonies are actually coming through with breaking away from Britain. Here in Boston, King George III has taken away countless rights from us and forced soldiers into our homes. That is just plain wrong and I am more then willing to fight for my freedom in these situations. What do I even have to loose, I am as poor as a church mouse, I have only a few friends and my small family is so far away. How I see it, the people who wrote this Declaration of Independence just want the rights they should have had in the first place.
In May of 1776 a resolution was passed at the Virginia Convention in Williamsburg that asked the thirteen American colonies to declare the United Colonies free and independent from the British crown. At the second continental congress the resolution passed and on June 11, 1776 a five-man committee led by Thomas Jefferson was established to write the Declaration of Independence. On July 4, 1776 the members of the second continental congress signed into existence one of the most influential documents in history.
Also, through the Declaration of Independence, colonists will always have the right to vote or be represented when choosing their leaders. Additionally, the Declaration of Independence shares the idea that civilians are allowed to protest against government rules without being punished or arrested. My first reason for why I agree with the Declaration of Independence is because I think it is wrong for the American colonists to be forced to pay taxes without any benefits. For example, James Otis creates the phrase, “no taxation without representation.” Through this
I support the Declaration of Independence, because I knew that we must start somewhere, and we must be smart and strong to succeed for the future of this country and still become the greatest country in the world. If the founding fathers didn't give up why should me lets keep it up and do even better. People that don't believe in the declaration of independence, they don't have freedom did think that they have everything, maybe so but when they need help they will not be getting it. This is one of the reasons why I'm with
An American’s opinions on the Declaration of Independence is very patriotic, prideful, and joyful because this signified that the thirteen colonies in North America had decided to become a free and independent nation. The freedom from the torturous reign of King George III was very significant in the Declaration of Independence.“ He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public.” ( P.66) The Declaration of Independence lists multiple reasons explaining why the colonies are choosing to separate themselves from the British Empire. If an American were reading this document they would agree that the colonies had the
The years leading up the Declaration of Independence were filled with grievances and unfairness. The Declaration of Independence declared America’s position of being a separate, political country with Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence, furthermore, listed the grievances Americans were going through under the control of King George. America was betrayed and neglected by a leader who didn’t care about her. The grievances in the Declaration of Independence resonate with every American who were living under the tragedies caused by an absolute ruler. I would sign the Declaration of Independence because it is the first step of becoming a fair country. If I was a colonist living in America during this period, I would want to change it
