The years leading up the Declaration of Independence were filled with grievances and unfairness. The Declaration of Independence declared America’s position of being a separate, political country with Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence, furthermore, listed the grievances Americans were going through under the control of King George. America was betrayed and neglected by a leader who didn’t care about her. The grievances in the Declaration of Independence resonate with every American who were living under the tragedies caused by an absolute ruler. I would sign the Declaration of Independence because it is the first step of becoming a fair country. If I was a colonist living in America during this period, I would want to change it
The United States is known as the land of the free, but has it always been like this? Was slavery erased from history? All The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4th 1776 and the colonies gained independence, many people settled in the 13 colonies to start a new life and own land, yet others were forced to settle in the America’s,not everyone has always been treated equally in the the land of the “free”. America has had pros and cons throughout its history and has risen o become one of the most successful nations in the world with its form of government, but Americans haven't always lived up to the Declaration of Independence, the United States gives opportunities to students who can't afford an education and anyone above the age 18 is allowed to vote, yet it hasn't always been like this,Americans haven't always live up to Declaration of Independence and even now this is put in doubt with the current events.
I think the declaration of independence upholds the political principles Americans value. I believe in the declaration because it would have separated America from king George, and giving the people the right to vote for their representatives and making their own decision to protect their rights. Yes, the writers accomplished their goals because they gave people their rights and separated America from England.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.” (The Declaration of Independence, U.S. 1776, para. 2). The Declaration of Independence is one of the most important documents in American history. The colonists said that Parliament and the king, George III, were violating the people’s natural rights. The colonies were on their own for such a long time that they got used to handling stuff their own way. Out of nowhere, the king and Parliament started giving the colonists taxes. From this taxing we got the saying “No taxation without representation.” Some of the taxes they gave the colonists were the Stamp Act, Sugar Act, and the Quartering Act. The Stamp Act was tax on every piece of paper and book published or used. The Sugar Act was a tax on sugar being imported and any food containing sugar. The Quartering Act was when the colonists were forced to house british soldiers, the soldiers were there to enforce the taxes being placed. All of these problems started the American Revolution.
On June of 1776, the Declaration of Independence was born. Drawn up by Thomas Jefferson and based on the works of John Locke, the general purpose of the document was to clarify that governments have conditional, not absolute authority over the people; that human beings possess natural rights that can’t be taken from them and government is created to protect those rights. The phrases “unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” and “all men are created equal” were the main theme of the social contract written for the small colonies of what would be the basis of the United States of America to declare independence from Great Britain and its tyrannical king. However, “unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” and “all men are created equal” did not apply to African Americans, enslaved or free for the coming years.
There is no such thing as an ideal government. Every form of government has its flaws and strengths. In 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed by our founding fathers, which declared independence from Britain. Thomas Jefferson, the founding father who wrote the declaration, had a set point of view of government and wanted to perfect it as much as possible. It was not all about government and its power to him. Jefferson believed that the people had rights over the government and that having a form of government was a necessity to prevent tyranny.
The American Revolution was not only a battle between the British and the colonists; it was a historical movement that brought about new ways of thinking. The ideas of liberty and equality began to be seen as essential to the growth of the new nation. The separation of the American colonies from the British Empire occurred for a number of reasons. These reasons are illustrated in the Declaration of Independence. Although Thomas Jefferson wrote the document, it expressed the desire of the heart of each colonist to be free of British rule. British rule over the colonies became unbearable in the early months of 1776, making it clear to the colonists that it was time to either give in
This was a document that was written to explain why we should break away from Great Britain and become independent from their laws. It explains that all men (and now women too) are created equal and were born with rights that cannot be taken away…life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. To ensure that these rights remain, the people create a government and laws that will protect these rights. When the government starts to act in such a way that these rights are threatened…then the people have the right to change the government or remove it and replace it with a new one. It then continues to list the reasons why they want to sever ties with Great Britain and list the ways they feel they have
The Declaration of Independence is one of the most famous documents in the history of the United States of America. It helped the colonists declare independence from Great Britain and King George III. It is one of the documents that has made our country what it is today. Without the Declaration many things would be different. After reading this I hope you are able to see what these great men went through to make America’s founding document.
The Declaration of Independence was signed today. I don’t understand why anyone would want to sign it. It seems like it won’t really help anyone. Why can’t they just leave everything the way it is? The King will get less irritated with time. Many of our parents lived in England, and when they came to this new land, they meant to continue living under the King’s rule, not to fight him over a few inconvenient laws. People these days seem very excitable. Anything seems to be enough of a reason to go to war.
During the time leading up to July 4th, 1776, the colonies were ruled by King George III. Tyranny took hold of the colonies until Thomas Jefferson created The Declaration of Independence. In this document Jefferson stated numerous grievances against the king and depicted those hardships that the colonies experienced under his rule. Historians have come to debate whether these accusations were true or exaggerated. Many historical events demonstrate how these grievances had a negative effect on the colonies. Many of the colonies felt that laws were passed to benefit King George III without considering the needs of the colonies.
From the Beginning of America until 1920, America hasn’t kept it's promises that has been in the Declaration of Independence. When the Indian Removal Act happened it forced natives to leave through military force. White settlers wanted land, so Jackson decided to make natives move. The Natives were there first and should have not been removed. The Declaration of Independence promises,“ Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This Act is taking away their life by them dying, giving them no input and forcing them to leave, and making them suffer on a journey, they were against.
The Declaration of Independence was written to explain, why colonies chose to separate from Great Britain. In the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson explains that if the government becomes unfair and controlling, a body of people have the right to change governments. Jefferson organized his argument in a format of writing an essay. He organized his document with an introduction, body, and conclusion.
The Declaration of Independence shows the strength of character of the American people and stands up for what is correct, freedom. As the document mentions grievances against King George III it contains proof of this trait in our founders. The Declaration reads “He has dissolved representative houses repeatedly for opposing, with manly firmness, his invasions on the right of the people”, and our founders were not going to stand for this invasion as they declared their freedom based on what they knew was right. The signees sacrificed, in many cases all that they had, to stand up for their values showing their great strength of character. Richard Stockton a member of the New Jersey delegation is a great example of the sacrifices those men made. The British captured his mansion and used it as one of their headquarters. When they left the British burned all of his personal items, including his library, personal papers and furniture. Then in November 1776 a traitor led the British to Stockton’s hideout where he was captured and jailed in NYC until Congress worked out his release. Joseph Hewes from North Carolina is another that sacrificed what he had to sign Declaration. He was a big part of the of the decision to cut off all imports and exports with the British. As a man whose fortune was built on trade he knew that it would ruin his wealth but made the sacrifice for what he knew was right. Additionally, we see the sacrifices made by what happened to William Hooper of North Carolina and William Floyd of New York. Both had their homes ransacked by the British with Hooper fleeing from Wilmington and not reuniting with his family until after and war and Floyd escaping to Connecticut but was left homeless for the remainder of the war. These are just some of the sacrifices made by the signees of out Declaration of Independence as they showed their great character by standing up for what
A democracy is a system of government controlled by the people, not by one certain group or individual. In the Declaration of Independence it states that “all men are created equal,” an idea which leads to the concept that all citizens should have the same rights, responsibilities, and influence in the governing of their country. In writing the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson was trying to break his ties with the harsh and non-democratic rule of the British and begin a new, equal society and government for America.
The Declaration of Independence is one of the most significant documents in the history of the United States. It has completely and forever changed the structure and foundation of our country. The Declaration gave purpose to the Revolutionary war. It was a justified reason to revolt against a government that no longer assured us our rights. It shows that they didn't go to war without
