The Declaration of Independence is a document, written by Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Roger Sherman, also contributed to this document. This paper argued and declared that all thirteen colonies should be free from British rule and be an independent free nation. The question is How well is the United States upholding the principles of the Declaration of Independence? I answered the question: How well is the United States upholding the principles of the Declaration of Independence. I agreed that three out of the four principles in the Declaration of Independence are upholding well in the modern world. The three principles I agreed with are Principle two: “All people have basic rights that cannot be taken away”, Principle three: “The government gets its power to make decisions and protect rights from the people”, and finally Principle 4: “When the government does not protect the rights of the people, the people have the right to change or remove the government. I gave support to why I agreed with these principles. I disagreed with one principle and that is “All men are created equal”. I explained how women in the government aren’t as ranked high as men and women are getting paid less. I proved this by giving out quotes from websites I have researched. When in the Course of human Events, it becomes noticeable that teachers are easily distracted by children who cause disruptions in the learning environment rather than focusing on students who try to learn. In order for a change, we the students are required to scribe our own Declaration of Independence, so that others around the world are informed on why students who want an education should be able to receive one and not be casted out by teachers due to others in the vicinity behavioral issues.
In 1776, Thomas Jefferson wrote one of the most important documents in history, it basically broke us up with Britain. His reason of writing this document was to become free from England and he wasn’t the only one, he had thousands and thousands of men and women who wanted to become free from England. Today in our American society, the ideas of equality, unalienable rights, and the right to alter or abolish corrupt governments are important, but having the powers from consent of the governed is truly critical for this country to function.

Principle 1, from The Declaration of Independence, states that all people are created equal, however I do not believe that this principle is being upheld in the U.S. as well as it should be. For example, in the early/mid 1900’s, people of different races were still being discriminated and mistreated even after decades since the abolishment of slavery. People of color were segregated from the whites and were always given the shorter end of the stick when it came to where they could legally walk, talk, drink, rest, or eat. There was once a country that did not have unalienable rights. Its citizens did not have the power to live life the way they want to, they could not strive to achieve their full potential, and lived under an oppressive government that did not allow them to have freedom. This description of this “country” may seem like an excerpt from a fictional apocalypse story but this is how America would be like without the Declaration of Independence and its emphasis on the four ideals, which includes equality, unalienable rights, consent of the governed, and the right of the people to alter or abolish the government. This is also the current condition of many countries that do not emphasize the four ideals. The first major issue that makes me willing to support the Declaration of Independence is that the people of the United States of America had been putting up with an inoperable government, the King of Britain, King George the third wanted to take all the power away from the people and would not listen to our leaders.One fact that proves the people of the United States had been putting up with an inoperable government is that King George the third has ignored the laws of our American Government. I believe that we have lived up to all of the ideals expressed in the Declaration, we have shown opportunity, equality, and rights. One of the ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence is equality. An example of equality was the ratification of the 13th and 14th Amendment. The 13th Amendment abolished slavery and the 14th Amendment granted former slaves citizenship and rights. By not only abolishing slavery but giving all former slaves equality too we showed equality.

The Declaration of Independence today is looked at a symbol for America to reflect on as it paved the way for most of the rights we have today. America has neglected these values over the years and the pattern of abandonment continues to show itself even today.
