The line which resonated with me the most is spoken by Baba when he says, “It may be unfair, but what happens in a few days, sometimes even a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime” (Hosseini 150). This quotation revolves around the topic of decision making, the choices that one makes can have a large impact on their life, in both negative and positive ways. This is evident through Soraya’s poor decisions that she makes throughout her period as an adolescent. She chooses to abandon her parents and move in with her boyfriend which results in her facing various negative outcomes such as becoming a drug addict, ruining her’s and her family’s reputation, and by losing her opportunity to get married, she became considered a promiscuous …show more content…
His guilt from his wrongdoing in his childhood continues to haunt him all the way through his adulthood and impacts his following life decisions. He begins to learn from his mistakes and accepts it as it is because he cannot change what is done in the past, he learns to move on and begin to make a wiser decision in the near future. Similarly, in society today, specifically teens are pressured to make various forms of choices since they are in that transitional period of becoming young adults. Some choices that they may have to encounter with can be minor, such as choosing to procrastinate, whereas, other choices can be major and it may affect their future in the long term. There are several major life choices that teens have to undergo, such as choosing their desired field of study to pursue at a post-secondary education. It can be very difficult for teens to make life choices at such a young age and therefore they are required to be certain in their choices as if they do not make the right choices, then they may be faced with serious consequences that may have a great impact on their life. When Khaled Hosseini wrote The Kite Runner, he made several important choices involving narration. He chose to write the story in first person from a limited point of view. This is a very fitting decision because, writing in the first person adds a sense of intimacy that is crucial to this story; writing from a limited perspective allows the reader to make their own conclusions about what the characters are thinking. The way Hosseini writes The Kite Runner makes it very intimate, and feels like a person telling their life story. If The Kite Runner had been written in third person, or omnisciently, the story would not have impacted readers as much, and would have been too cold and impersonal to create emotional connections with the reader.
The control adolescents express over the choices they make, like the rise and fall of the tide, is fluid and dependant on multiple factors. These factors--biography, biology and current situation--are essential to the adolescent decision-making process as they manage to influence, but not control, the choices we make.
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is a novel about life in Afghanistan that follows a boy named Amir, his father Baba, and their two servants Hassan and Ali. Amir and Baba are wealthy Pashtuns, and Baba is well respected. Hassan and Ali, on the other hand, are Hazara, an ethnic minority in Afghanistan. The Hazara people are oppressed and seen as inferior to the Pashtun people. Baba, however, doesn’t treat them as inferior:this way, he shows kindness towards Hassan, instead ofunlike Amir. Throughout Amir’s childhood, he is constantly ignored by Baba because he does not fit Baba’s idea of the son he wants. Baba’s general disapproval and disinterest in Amir shows that he is a bad father to Amir, especially because he shows the opposite emotions to Hassan.
In our current society, people constantly make bad decisions that lead them in the wrong path for the majority of their life, which may put them in jail or even get them killed. The Kite Runner, written by Khaled Hosseini, is a famous novel that portrays the story of Amir, a boy who tries to escape the constant guilt that has followed him since childhood because of the bad decisions that he made. Khaled Hosseini used the novel’s devastating depiction of sacrifice, honor, and redemption to explain that there is always a way to be a righteous and respectable person again. Through sacrifice, Amir was able to relieve his guilt and become the virtuous person that he has always wanted to be.
When I finished reading Lord of the Flies, I think I would have found myself on the side of it being a warning that what we call civilization is taken for granted. Throughout the novel Golding makes apparent that each choice the boys make is right and wrong. Each decision they make to turning into beast of humanity could have been stopped if they would have made the correct decisions. I think that even in society today we could very easily turn into what happened on that island, as I read it there were not many turns made that lead to the low that they had reached by the end of the book.
From the psychology angle analysis, teenagers have begun to have their own views. They will consider people and certain things important, and they’ll have their own hobbies and interests. However, it will be with a heavy feeling, because their likes and dislikes, whether they are good or bad judgment they will be judged
"There are two main features that seem to distinguish teenagers from adults in their decision making, during early adolescence in particular, teenagers are drawn to the immediate rewards of a potential choice and are less attentive to the possible risks. Second, teenagers in general are still learning to control their impulses, to think ahead, and to resist pressure from others."- Laurence Steinberg
Although William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet suggests that teens cannot think about consequences to actions, today’s teens still struggle to comprehend the consequences to actions.
Social conditions are what shape a country. Over the years, people, not only in Afghanistan, but around the world create norms that define people’s roles in life, their future, and how they should be treated based on their gender and beliefs. Khaled Hosseini’s first novel, The Kite Runner, comments on the social conditions of Afghanistan through telling a story about the lives of two Muslim boys; a privileged Sunni Pashtun, Amir, and his long-time friend and servant, Hassan, a loyal but disadvantaged Shia Hazara. Hosseini expresses Amir’s uncertain feelings toward Hassan which form the decisions he makes throughout the book. These choices result in Amir destroying his relationship with Hassan. The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini is a commentary on the social conditions in Afghanistan as shown through the roles of women and men in society and the ideals of Afghan culture. Unfortunately, these problems are still active in most of Afghanistan.
Fischer, Stein and Heikkinen have found that having clear-cut ages for individuals to make decisions lead to simplification and distorted outcomes. The researchers argue, “measures should assess the capabilities that are involved with decisions that are based on life changing decisions and punishment of criminal behavior” (Fischer et al., 2009). Having ages that cut off when an individual is ready to make a big decision may not work if an individual has not been exposed to certain circumstances. In addition, Professor Wood from Rutgers University Camden teaches to her students that adolescents’ decision has an influence from which socialization the adolescent grew up with. If the adolescent grew up in an independent socialization pattern, he or she would focus on self-reflection and self esteem.
Even though parents say that their teenager is mature and responsible, they could still make bad choices. Body Paragraph
In less than five minutes the gun will go off, and the race will begin. Thousands of people gather behind the starting line with different numbers pinned to their shirt. Friends and family of the runners stand behind the gate to observe this moment in history where the person who they love either gives up in the middle or achieves their goal in the end. 26.2 miles. That is all it takes to complete a full marathon. Some people may say this goal is unrealistic for them, while others strive to achieve it. The mentality these runners face from their preparation for the race to the very second that they cross the finish line is astounding. The thought that people could push not only their physical strength, but also their mental strength to the point of completing a marathon is truly remarkable.
