Introduction
Imagine that today is the biggest day of your life. The career you have been so desperately trying to make a name for yourself in is finally giving you a window opprotunity. You're thrilled, because you know that this could be the biggest day of your life. Suddenly you get a call from your boyfriend asking you to come over. You of course do because you know he wouldn’t call you for no good reason. You go to his house, you argue, things escalate,and suddenly everything is black.

During the time of the discovery day dance, Trujillo was desiring to dance with the misses. He came across one lady who seemed to be perfect for him, one who stood out better than the rest. Katherine Dunham, an African American dancer from Chicago Illinois had a very successful dance career in American and European theatre in the 20th century. Dunham was a choreographer as well as a dancer. She directed her own dance company for many years before she died May 2006. Dunham was known as the “matriarch and queen mother of black dance” meaning that she was the “head” or “leader” of black dance. Her works and pieces all showed similarity and differences throughout the time in which they were produced. Most of her works were not solos but they were danced with her and her company in which she taught various classes based on her technique.
Amalia Hernández, a world renown Mexican Ballet Choreographer. Ever since Amalia was born her parents, Lamberto Hernández and Amalia Navarro, knew she would do great things. Lamberto Hernández, Amalia’s Father, was a military officer and a politician. Amalia Navarro, Amalia’s Mother, was interested in the arts and really pushed for her daughter to be a dancer. Growing up, Amalia’s interest in dance lead to her passion for Ballet Folklorico de Mexico.

What people don’t know about our society today is that African Americas have created most of the dances we do today. As a society, we have been inspired by the native African dances because they poured their souls into the dances which all had meaning. From what I’ve noticed African Americans and dance are a pair because it brings out the rhythm and joy in folks. The musical culture is very strong and over the last few years has become stronger.
A wide array of ideas and concepts are used to determine the categorization for post-modernism, expressionism, and formalism. Post-modernism is typically categorized by everyday movements. It is said by some that one does not even need be a dancer in order to do this style of choreography. It is similar to contemporary dance which is a combination of modern and post-modern dancing. Expressionism is basic movement with the intent of expressing an emotion or feeling behind it. Expressionism originated in Germany and can be easily identified when associated with “story-telling” or the conveyance of an emotion. In one my classes; Dance Appreciation, I had an assignment to view a dance piece on YouTube. The dance that I viewed was called “She without arm, he without leg, Hand in Hand”. The dance was not only informative, but it was enlightening to watch.

Today was a slow but productive day. My supervisor Jim Hornsby scheduled me for a class in order to be a certified field navigator within the practicum. A field navigator is another word for case manager. The class was held about a few hundred yards from CTLC. The class started at eight o’clock, I was the first to arrive. When I sat down in the empty classroom I found myself reflecting on how much I have accomplish in just this year alone. In the middle of my reflection, I heard a loud bang at the door, so I went to investigate and there were the rest of the students. They all came in a pack, everyone knew everyone except me. After being married to this man for 16 years. Debbie finally found the courage that she needed to take a stand against this man. She went and got a job at a department store where she became a manager in a sort period of time. When Debbie had finally saved enough money to leave her husband, she packed her stuff and kids with her and has not looked back. Debbie stated that during this time in her life it was hard because her children kept rebelling against her. In return this made it difficult to care for them being a single parent. Debbie learned from this experience that she had the power, strength, and courage to leave her husband the whole time. However, she did not believe in herself that she could do it until one day enough was enough and she realized that she wanted more out of her life.
