Danville, PA is a wonderful place to live as it is a small town and it has several large employers to supply good jobs, however, more small businesses are needed in the downtown and surrounding area. Danville has a history of coal and iron manufacturing but following the peak of that, it had lost several businesses and the downtown became not as busy as it was. Unfortunately, this has remained so and Danville is in need of revitalization.
Danville needs downtown revitalization to keep people buying goods here instead of going to other towns and purchasing goods and services. The Danville Business Alliance was formed in 2004 in order to revitalize Danville which has been ongoing and still is a “work in progress.” Mr. Tom Beiter, who

1. Using symbolic interaction theory as your guide, explain how the terms “aliens” and “illegals” helped shape public opinion/attitudes in Farmingville towards Latino day laborers. What do these words mean? How did these definitions influence perceptions and behaviors?
Alien in one definition is: “Too different from something to be acceptable or suitable,” and Illegal in one definition is “Not allowed by the law.” (Mirriam-Webster Dictionary) The words ‘Alien’ and ‘Illegal’ have inherent negative connotations. A person does not need to know the intimate or factual circumstances associated with those words to understand their symbolism. When those words are used to label the social group of undocumented Latino day laborers the inherent reaction is to see them in a negative way. The individuals become a stigmatized group. The people against undocumented immigrants in Farmingville saw the Latinos through the lens of the stigmatized group “illegal aliens.” They thus became

The city prides itself on its ability to continually evolve, maintaining a proper balance between holding onto its history while thriving in the modern world. Part of this balance involves ensuring that paved surfaces are properly maintained so that the city always presents a good impression to the area's residents as well as the many visitors that come to Danville to shop, tour the historic sites or conduct county business. Services such as asphalt paving, concrete repairs, sealcoating, asphalt overlays, pavement markings and asphalt repairs are commonly requested by property owners in Danville.
There are available resources and organizations located across the North Philadelphia area. My group members and I focused on the surrounding areas of 22nd and Lehigh. At that intersection there lies Dobbins High School and behind it, a park called x. There a neighborhood shopping center and there are many corner stores. Commuters are able to use SEPTA, Philadelphia’s transportation system. There are buses and subway train stations that are walking distance from this intersection. There are also abandoned houses and factories in blocks radius. We figured that once we took the opportunity to walk through and analyze the community that it would reveal many more resources available.
Revitalization efforts in downtown areas have gained momentum over the past few decades, this paper is focused on revitalization strategies, recognizing the process of decline, while identifying key strategies used in downtown revitalization efforts over the past fifty years (Faulk 2006). Downtowns, unlike suburban shopping malls or office complexes, evolved slowly over time, responding to changing technologies, social and economic patterns. A city’s identity relies heavily on the image of its downtown, so inevitably cities of all sizes commit themselves to achieving successful downtown redevelopment (Robertson 1995). As I have been reading literature on downtown revitalization a number of strategies and principles have surfaced. Many of
