Hendrick Motorsports made the huge announcement today that Dale Earnhardt Jr. has made the decision to retire from NASCAR after the 2017 season is over. ESPN shared that Dale has decided it is time to move on, but he will be finishing out the season and hopefully going out with a bang. His contract does expire at the end of this season, and so far Hendrick Motorsports has not shared who will replace him on the track. Just one month ago, Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed that he had plans to talk to team owner Rick Hendrick about extending his contract, but for some reason, that plan obviously changed. Carl Edwards made a decision not long ago to move on, and at the time Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared his thoughts about leaving the racing world. "I think Carl figured out a way to get into a place to make that decision easy. And I can do the same thing when the time comes, and I won't have any regrets. It's not going to be a lot of fun to retire, I can imagine. You've seen a lot of people, athletes retire in the past. It seems a very difficult statement to make, a very difficult press conference to have. But when I'm ready to do that, I'll be making that decision knowing it's the right thing to do." …show more content…
knows that this is the right decision and at the right time for him. Just last year, Dale suffered concussions in wrecks on June 12 at Michigan and July 2 at Daytona. At first, he thought he was simply dealing with sinus issues, but it turns out that there was more to it. He ended up making the hard decision to set out the rest of the season to let himself
In the late 1990s, two of the Branson brothers wanted to bring their children and their spouses into the business. The role that these new family members would play in the business created discussions and some altercations. Dave James in particular was opposed to bringing in family members. Dave threatened to leave, and some of the Bransons thought that was a good idea. After few months of negotiations, it was agreed that Dave James would receive one year’s severance pay, and the three Branson brothers would buy his stock in the company at its fair value. Dave James resigned from the trucking company at the end of 2011. Branson Trucking Company does not trade in any market, and it is a closely held. The only stock sales have been directly from the company to the original holders of the stock.

There are many factors that appeal to leaders why organizational change is needed in today’s business to stay competitive. Weiss (2016) noted “Factors such as technology and globalization have made the world far more interconnected” (p. 4). These factors can create more risks and opportunities for organizations to succeed or fail. Change management is inevitable, in order to successfully bring an organization into the twenty-first century, leaders must recognize this, develop plans and successfully execute them to remain relevant in today’s economy. This paper will provide an overview of Discount Tire Co. and diagnose the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and present a plan using Kotter’s eight-step change process and

Bear Ridge Speedway has been part of the Bradford community for almost 50 years. That is a very successful term for any local business. At every race, there is a local business sponsor that gets to be part of the weekly race advertisements, receive an allotment of free admission passes, at-track advertisement opportunities and many photo opportunities with the winners at winner’s circle. This is a great opportunity for local businesses to get face time with community members, especially at a social gathering place like a sports track. Even so, many of the drivers are sponsored by local businesses as well. These opportunities are “a tool that can be used to promote local products and to attract investment and economic development (Baker, 2013).” Not only that, the local businesses, like the Truck Stop, Hannaford’s Supermarket and other local restaurants, get an increase in business during race nights as people stop to get drinks, gas or other things that they might need (like car parts). This means that the business generated by the track spills over to the other local businesses. As a whole, there is an economical benefit to having the race track located in Bradford. Even though this is a small track in a small community, benefits have historically been seen in other tracks throughout the country, which makes me assume there is at minimum a benefit to surrounding local businesses. “A 1999 economic impact study of the Indianapolis 500 revealed that

After a long silence Ken Griffey grinned and said, “However I will tell you this. If a few years go by and you decide that nothing else can take the place of baseball in your life-- well, then, sir I’m afraid that you will have no other choice, but to return to the sport you once loved… and
The sport of NASCAR is one like no other. It requires tons of physical and mental toughness. It’s not like baseball, football, or basketball, but it should always be mentioned when you talk about those sports. Until the day when NASCAR is recognized as a sport, I’m listening to Jimmie Johnson, “If somebody doesn't believe [that NASCAR is a sport and that drivers are athletes], go to one of the local driving schools and give it a shot. After you've been in the car and you climb out of the car after sweating and going through the paces, and you still don't think we're athletes, I'll listen to you then. Until then, I'm not paying attention.”
The internal split that led to the creation of the Indy Racing League was a forced market segmentation of the open wheel auto racing market. From a segmentation perspective, the split was unsuccessful for a number of reasons. The primary reason the split was unsuccessful is that it grouped the fans into two very different groups based on the type of track being used for the different leagues. The secondary reason the split was unsuccessful is related to the division of the sponsorships. The final reason the split was unsuccessful is due to the success that NASCAR had at approximately the same point in time that the open wheel racing leagues had the division.
