I have decided to choose the topic of bullying. Bullying definition is a person, adult, or child, who hurts or intimidates others weaker then himself or herself. (Canadian dictionary and thesaurus, 2004) The newspaper stories cover three types of bullying, The reason why I picked this topic is because I have a personal connection with bullying issues and I am an advocate for our society to stand up to this sociology problem.
The three news article that I have picked deal with different types of bullying. The first article is about special needs bullying. The second news article is about cyberbullying and the third article is about physical bullying.

This story is about a Montana teen who had a learning disability. He had decide to commit suicide after two years of persistent bullying in the schools. The bullying started on January 2013. “Deon Gillen, 18, took his life on Feb. 14 after his family battled with both his middle school and high school who they say failed to protect him against habitual tormenting.” He was diagnosed with “aggravated post-traumatic stress disorder” (bult, 2016) He was also subjected to verbal abuse and was frequently called “stupid” and “retard. This story is one of the many that has caught the media’s attention over recent years. Teen suicide in relation to bullying started garnering public and media attention after the Columbine and Santana High School shootings in 1999 and 2001 respectively (Ericson, n.d.). It is noted that the boys who completed these murder-suicides were bullied throughout their school careers (n.d.). In response to this observation, researchers began studying the link between bullying and suicide. Studies are now showing that bullying is an important risk factor in the ideation and completion of suicide in juveniles. In this newspaper article, the author helps the reader understand and how to treat cyber bullying. The author explains what bullying is and how it is modernized to become cyber bullying. The article informs the reader of main point, in a brief but effective description about recognizing and treating cyber bullying. The author show great statistical research on her topic but not enough the emotional appeal. It provides good use to my research because of the extensive use on how it should be treated.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-24. Each day in our nation, there are an average of over 5,240 attempts by young people grades 7-12. Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims, according to studies by Yale University. A study in Britain found that at least half of suicides among young people are related to bullying. According to statistics reported by ABC News, nearly 30 percent of students are either bullies or victims of bullying, and 160,000 kids stay home from school every day because of fear of bullying. More teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease, combined. According to the CDC, suicide rates are reaching epidemic levels. It is safe to say, suicide is an epidemic that we must solve.

Most teenagers utilize texting as their primary source of communication because hearing someone's voice through the phone is somehow strange and uncomfortable. Communicating via text has replaced interacting with the outside world. As a result, now that we have been introduced to tweeting, texting, and other forms of social media, it accounts everything we do must be shared with the rest of our associates. Teenagers have been abusing the privilege of communication through text has been shown through cyberbullying. The huge impact texting has had in our social lives as well as our language changes the way we interact with individuals by making us unaware of aggression in speech and limiting our knowledge.
When comparing cyber-bullying and stalking to the country such as the (United Kingdom) UK and Germany we will see the effects differ significantly. Most cyber talking has caused the UK government to monitor closely the privacy act in 1998 to be able to amend the existing law appears to be insufficient in protecting the community, which seems to know they are being criminally attack but lack the ability to be able to control it through contact with the police or other government officials as police, federal police or other agencies of government. Because privacy is very complex law it is not obvious to the average police officer trained to protect the community through various forms of strategies to keep pace with technological change daily.
Free speech is both a universal and national liberty. The United Nations and the United States of America believe that free speech is something that humans should be allowed to exercise. However, each respective group has their own limitations. These limitation, although broad, protect against free speech being taken too far. Like any liberty or privilege there must be a line in the sand to keep extremists from aggressively using and abusing this right. The United Nations formed "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights." With in this declaration are 40 articles with a preamble examining the rights which they believe are basic and necessary. Facebook and other social media platforms have brought communication across the world to a whole new level. The rise of social media has created a place for children to communicate with others in both a positive and negative manner. Although it has made a positive impact on American youth, it has also contributed and exacerbated bullying in our schools. This new form of bullying, often referred to as cyberbullying, has created an around-the-clock atmosphere where bullying can occur even when school is not in session. Many professionals have sought to address the negative aspects of social media and have worked to develop a solution to bring cyberbullying to an end.

A single girl took her life after being bullied multiple times online. At the young tender age of twelve, she jumped from the top of a factory in Florida. According to later investigations, she was bullied for more than one year. Just right before she “jumped to death,” she changed her ask.fm page to “The Dead Girl.” Her body was found dead at an abandoned cement factory one early morning. Had she been alive today, she would be here to tell us why she jumped. According to CyberBully Radar, statistics show that at least 42% of young people in the society have been bullied online, and one out of four of them have suffered from it. Bullying has increased over the past few years. Every bully has their own motive and reason behind their actions. Bullying could either be a short term or long term event. There are different ways a person can be bullied. Through social media, texting/phone, in person, blackmail, in and out of the classroom. The victim can be hurt physically, emotionally, and mentally. The pain someone faces from being bullied often stays with them their whole life. We use technology in almost every aspect of our daily lives; it is how we stay connected in this fast-paced world. Technology provides many benefits, but it has the potential to destroy many people. With technology use on the rise, bullying has taken a new, more destructive form. Cyberbullying, as defined by the Cyberbullying Research Center, is the willful and repeated harm inflicted through the medium of electronic text (qtd. in Chait). Cyberbullying is a serious problem and has serious consequences.
