Student Affairs alumni engagement
• The Division of Student Affairs began a quarterly electronic newsletter for alumni who have a connection with Student Affairs to reconnect them with programs, services, events, and initiatives of the division.
• Student Affairs added to the number of alumni events hosted each year, specifically aimed at bringing together individuals who were highly engaged students while on campus.
• Diverse students and alumni met in small groups to discuss how to effectively transition from college to career as diverse individuals at a Student and Alumni Diversity Meet-up event hosted by the Career Center.
• The Competitive Sports Program led a session on alumni engagement as part of the program’s

Intercollegiate Athletics points of pride

As a young girl, going to a university had appeared to be a farfetched daydream. However, I have matured since those thoughts and have spent countless hours depositing effort to reach this so called farfetched dream. Illinois State University was one of the numerous universities sprinting through my mind. When I buckled down and made I.S.U. my first choice, the decision was clear for why I should attend this particular school. First of all, the location of the university meet my personal needs. With Bloomington only being 45 minutes away from my hometown, I would be eligible to visit my brother if need be. My younger brother, Payton, has depended on me a great deal since my parent’s divorce. Therefore, it would be in my best interest to be close to home. Secondly, the program and technology offered in my field of study intrigued my longing for knowledge. Illinois State University has often been recognized, by the staff of my high school, as a top notch university for those interested in teaching. Lastly, I chose this 4-year university

Yet, UCSB’s goals emulate some Naturalist theory as seen in their mission statement. Their mission statement states that each student and faculty member will experience an “educational journey of discovery that stimulates independent thought, critical reasoning, and creativity... [through] interdisciplinary collaboration that is responsive to the needs of our multicultural and global society” (Mission Statement). Naturalists goals denies specificity and are unclear to each member divulging a different academic path for each student or faculty member (Sutton 1/20/11). By looking at an aggregate level, UCSB members work together to achieve that “educational journey of creativity”, but on an individual level, each member has varying goals for his or herself depending on his or her role. Students do not have the same goals as their professors or the Chancellor, their goal is to work to achieve their degree whereas the Chancellor’s goal is to provide a thought-provoking experience for his students. The mission state accommodates and supplies a different experience for each member because it is ambiguous. UCSB members must explore their own path to achieve their own goals to understand what their education and careers meant. Naturalist goals determine
As former student-athletes, founders Fiona C. Cross and Mikal H. Williams, we support those students who currently participate in extra-curricular sports by offering after-school enrichment services designed to facilitate a consistent balance between education and athletics. As a community-based initiative, iMMAC-U welcomed Markeet Johnson as Athletic Coordinator. In catering to the entire well-being of the scholar-athlete and their comprehension of the importance of fundamental health and education; the standard of cooperative-learning allows the students to grow within the educational trends, hone their skills, and develop the leadership skills in which they possess.
More than 100 clubs and organizations help students to develop leadership skills, network professionally and meet friends. With competitive teams in 16 NCAA Division I sports -- including football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s hockey, and men's and women's lacrosse -- students and alumni alike have plenty of opportunities to cheer on the
As a candidate for the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Honors College, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the invitation to submit an application for consideration. As a UTSA student-athlete, such an opportunity is an extraordinary moment in my life, reason being, the UTSA Honors College invitation validates that I am worthy of the title a true student-athlete. Accordingly, this opportunity dispels the negative stereotypical categorization associated with being an athlete; therefore, to represent UTSA Football Team in this educational endeavor is an honor.
The curriculum focuses on the social, business and cultural aspects of sports through hands-on activities and real-world case studies. Sports management students are encouraged to actively engage the faculty, academic advisors and alumni mentors who have successful sports management careers. Sports management students regularly run campus-based student groups, such as the Sport Business Association and the Michigan Sport Business Conference. The sport management alumni is made up of the largest body of graduates in the U.S. They provide support and guidance through networking, mentoring, internships and exclusive career opportunities. This includes undergraduate research opportunities and membership in pre-professional clubs. Most graduates go onto careers in professional sport organizations and corporate

I think this is the perfect time for me to be involved in a team-based research project. I have enough background knowledge to work with others to successfully carry out research. Yet, on the other side of things, much more still remains in my study of anthropology. The new skills I will gain from this research experience will prove to be beneficial as I continue my education and I eventually run independent research projects. By working with a team to conduct anthropological research, I will be more prepared to complete independent anthropological research in the future and after completing the project, I will be able to appreciate the ethnographies of others more fully.
Investigating the role of intercollegiate athletics in higher education first requires a short review of the history of intercollegiate athletics. There has been sufficient amount of documentation on the history of intercollegiate athletics and the NCAA. In 1852 student-organized rowing crews from Harvard and Yale participated in the first recorded intercollegiate competition (Hums & MacLean, 2013). The researchers noted that at the inception of intercollegiate athletic competition, student organizations were responsible for athletic governance, until college presidents began to recognize the benefits of having school sponsored athletic teams. Sporting events proved to be an excellent outlet from the academic rigors of higher education.
After having attended Illinois State University previously, I know that I want to return to finish my career there because it is what I have always wanted. Illinois State University inspires me to keep on fighting for what I want and need through the challenges that I have faced while being there, freshman part of sophomore year. After facing the challenges and having to attend another school, I learned the hard way what it really means to fight for what you really want. As I attended Heartland Community College after Illinois State University, I knew that that’s not what I wanted for myself and that I wanted to return to Illinois State University. Illinois State University is the perfect school for me because I know that the professors truly
As a student affairs practitioner I believe I am a cornerstone of the higher education experience. I have made it my mission to help students be the best version of themselves for the benefit of not only them, but of society at large. I work to help create not only educated students, but also engaged members of a global society.
As President, I started several new initiatives like our muscular dystrophy association fundraiser and interactive stock market game. In addition, I was a sectional champion and state finalist in the marketing and management category. In high school, I was selected to participate in the Downers Grove Township’s attainable futures business leadership program where I worked cooperatively with area business leaders. The Attainable Futures program was a great experience because I learned valuable lessons about networking and how to be an effective business leader. In the future, I hope to utilize the tools gained from studying at a place like University of Illinois and better society in some way. The possibilities with a degree from the University of Illinois are endless and the alumni base will surely help me succeed in the future. Someday, I hope to own my own business that will leave a positive impact on society. Whatever my business may be, I will work hard to ensure that it is a well-run business that services the community in a variety of ways. In the end, I hope to utilize my University of Illinois degree to its maximum potential in order to leave a positive impact on
My short-term career goals including graduating with a sport management degree that will enable me to excel in the next part of my life. I would also like to be excepted into one of the top law schools that offer a sport law program and be an intern at the NCAA after graduation. Ohio University’s sport management program will help me do this by giving me the education and opportunities to achieve these goals. As a freshman, I was able to start a club for women in sport management which created more opportunities for myself. I was able to meet with more faculty who wanted to learn about the club and also meet other females in the sport management program and create a network for ourselves. Through this club, I was selected to be a part of a
