Through my studies, I hope to broaden my knowledge around crime control methods by familiarising myself on leading criminological theories that are currently being used by the police. I hope that it will assist me in developing crime control methods within the department that I am currently working in. I would also like to know how criminological theories are applied in the operational police context.
Politics has influenced the police force since its conception. I want to understand how the police have been changed and continue to be changed by politics, by exploring constitutional positioning of the police in the UK. To also look at the legal and political constraints placed on the police by the politicians. I believe this will give
y work and personal experiences have influenced my decision to go back to college and my degree choice greatly. I would like to attain my degree in Criminal Justice to further my goals in the career I have already begun. Having over 8 years of experience in the youth correctional field, I am confident in my decision to further my education in criminal justice. I started working for the Division of Youth Corrections (DYC) in 2007 as an Administrative Assistant and through training and dedication to the victims I served, became a Certified Victim Advocate through the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance. Part of my responsibilities included assisting victims through the critical stages of the adjudication process. I attended court hearings,
Coming into Westfield I was convince that criminal justice was the major for me. Starting off my freshmen year I took an intro to criminal justice class and it was that class that made me realized criminal justice wasn’t for me. Once I dropped criminal justice I became undeclared I kept taking class in different area studies to see if I enjoyed any type of major. It was hard on me at first because I struggled so much trying to find a major that I truly thought was good for me.
Crime is subject to a complex combination of factors, many of which have little to do with how police do their jobs. Studies have pointed to the effects of the economy, the aging population, even the amount of lead in people's bodies. (Schuppe).
This essay will introduce two competing perspectives of policing, they are the orthodox and revisionist perspectives. This essay will then relate the orthodox and revisionist perspectives to the themes of lack of structure, industrialisation and finally hostility. It will then discuss whether the creation of the Metropolitan Police by Sir Robert Peel in 1829 was an effective solution to the changes within society as well as the challenges brought about through crime and disorder. The orthodox view is that the Metropolitan Police were, in fact, a rational decision made to adapt to the needs of the society. They argue that the establishment of the ‘new’ police was inevitable. The revisionist view would state that the ‘new’ police were not a rational decision. They believed that crime and disorder were not increasing, it was just that the ways of counting crime were largely different to previously. The revisionists also believe that the new system was in part beneficial for which to tackle issues that may have occasioned due to the new ‘dangerous class’ (Monkkonen, 1981, p147). In this essay, there will be reference made to the Brixton Riots in 1981 with a clear explanation as to how the orthodox and revisionist perspectives relate to modern policing activities.
Outline and assess the role of the police in the social construction of crime (50 marks)
Policing has come a long way since the London Metropolitan Police. In the mid-1800 's policing was more about crime prevention and use of force was a rare last ditch effort to gain compliance from a suspect ( White p. 69-69 ) New technologies have changed policing from an informal neighborhood watch to a sophisticated organization.
The dictionary definition of the police is “the organized civil force of a state, concerned with maintenance of law and order, the detection and prevention of crime, etc,” (Collins English Dictionary, 2002). This definition states the minimum of what the police actually do. Providing support for families, protecting society from criminals and responding to calls 24 hours a day 7 days a week are just some of the other roles that police have to deal with. In this essay the evolution of the police will be discussed as well as how the police are facing challenges.
Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, were given a lot of credit for the success of the Montgomery movement because of their leadership and respect throughout the black community. But, they couldn’t achieve such success without a community of people doing their part. The MIA members believed in their leaders, as a result the members had the will to protest, even at their weakest points they kept on protesting. Furthermore, there were also whites who supported the boycott in which many of them sent in money and used cars to help out the movement. The actions that led Montgomery officials to integrate the buses, was when 50,000 customers suddenly stop using the bus and over half of those customers are black. And this action impacted Montgomery
Over the past two years I have continuously studied and worked within the criminal justice field. My studies from Vincennes University varied within the field of criminal justice and at times pertained to corrections. Working as a Campus Safety Officer gave me experience with a variety of people and personalities. During my time as a Campus Safety Officer I was educated on defensive tactics, pepper ball training, hand-to-hand combat, OC pepper spray, and Monadnock expandable baton training. I have excellent communication skills and am able to keep calm during stressful situations.
To work in the field of criminal justice, whether with rehabilitating offenders or in research analysis, has always been a goal of mine stemming from the beginning of my undergraduate studies at Lakeland University. It is in the Reentry Unit of the Department of Corrections, that there is the emphasis to work with offenders in order to reduce recidivism with the focus of providing support in educational programming, skill building, and goal planning to prepare offenders for community reintegration. Overall, the Reentry Unit of correctional system is an integral portion that provides a pathway for offenders to reintegrate.
I recently graduated, with highest honors, in December of 2016 with my AS in Criminal Justice and I am currently enrolled in the Bachelors program for Criminal Justice as well. I plan on transferring to Florida State University over the summer to finish my Bachelors in Criminology there. I have always loved helping others and what better way to help than to take an oath to serve and protect them as a law enforcement officer. My mom showed me that there is no such thing as a "man's job" and that entering a male dominated field is nothing to be afraid of. I hope to ultimately work as a federal law enforcement officer in the FBI.
My desire for a career in law enforcement started while pursuing my undergraduate degree at the University of Central Florida. As a freshman biology major with hopes of becoming a Radiologist, it did not take me long to realize the medical field was not for me. Peers in my classes had a passion and interest for the material that I did not possess. My grades poorly reflected the type of student I was. Realizing it was time for a change, at the end of my sophomore year I started seeking guidance. Unbeknownst to me, my disinterest in the curriculum was a major contribution to my poor performance. I completed career assessments and sat with academic counselors in several different areas of study. I was feeling more confused than ever because Criminal Justice courses often sparked my interest, but I hesitated due to the dangerous nature of police work.
Receiving a Master’s degree has always been on my list of goals and criminal justice has always been one of my peak interests. I am currently employed as a caseworker at the York County Assistance Office. I have been employed through state for the last three years and recently have been promoted to a caseworker position. While searching for a criminal justice online program, I came across different colleges and universities. Saint Joseph University has become my top pick.
As a child, I always wanted a career enforcing the law. Weather it was with the police department or criminal justice was undecided at that time. As I grew older I pulled more to the fence of criminal justice. Simply because I do not like the way the system is set up.
In My opinion was caused by assassination/genetic impairments. To back up that statement there is information that proves he was assassinated due to his family tree and genetic impairments.
