Environmental: A child’s environment plays a big role in their development. Exposure to different forms of activities that exercise the analytical and creative sides of the brain are important.

The opportunity for children and young people to develop in a loving caring environment is vital to their development. It is important that professional practitioners know the expected aspects and rate of development to ensure that individuals in their care are given the best opportunity to thrive. The following tasks will help you to understand the support that each child or young person may need.

The first activity that parents can introduce to their children to help promote physical, cognitive, and social development is to give them access to toys that promote mental and physical development as they grow older. A second activity that can help promote physical development is to allow them greater independence as they grow and not stop them from taking minor risks. Whatever age group or setting you are working with, you must plan an environment that encourages the development of the whole child. First of all you think about the different settings that children and young people aged 0-16 years may experience. These settings have both indoor and outdoor physical spaces that need to be considered. The layout of the physical environment is your team’s responsibility and contributes to giving each child positive outcomes in their learning, and development. The available space will influence the way the furniture and equipment is set out.

The Nursery set out many different activities for the Children. This is designed for them for the different areas that they develop within the Nursery. They are set to reach all the areas of learning, Personal social and emotional development, communication language and literacy development, problem solving reasoning and numeracy, knowledge and understanding of the world, physical development and creative development. With all these different resources the Children begin to recognize their skills and how to use them. For an example, in the toddler room the creative area always has something out, the toddlers can then sit at the table, start to do mark making on the paper and realize they are drawing on paper. The NYS Early Learning Guidelines were created as a reference guide by the Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC) for those who are responsible for the care and education of young children. These guidelines can help early childhood professionals with learning and developing their skills in order to foster children’s growth and development. Right from birth children develop their behaviour and social skills from what they experience at home. This experience should be caring, loving and supportive, it should provide children with the opportunity to develop and interact as much as possible. Children need to be exposed to as many experiences as feasible, so that not only can they learn and develop, but they can have their main carers/parents support. This will allow a child to learn to deal with different situations.

Social and emotional development of babies and young children should be encouraged. This can be done through activities provided at any childcare settings or within the home. In order to apply theories and models of child development to support children’s development we must get to know each individual child by building a good relationship with the children through play, communication and answering to their personal needs. Observation and assessment is also key so that we know what each child is capable of and what they are working towards/could be encouraged towards. Good communication with parents is also beneficial as it helps the carer to see what the child is doing at home and to identify if there are things they do or don’t do at nursery that is different from home. It also helps to work out ways of encouraging development at home and at nursery.

Though I am just entering the field, I have enough experience to pick out the concepts that I believe are most relevant to the children at their young age. The first is the power of relationships to bring comfort and safety. The children are growing and exploring a lot in the preschool years, so it is vital that they feel comfortable in the facility. The second is the need for communication. The third concept that makes up my personal philosophy is the benefit from learning through play.

A protective environment is an environment where a child is protected from violence and abuse, they feel at home, in school, and in the community. In a protective environment, a child feels they can trust their parents, teachers, and other adults in their community to protect them from potential threats. Cognitive developments allow the child to begin to understand and interact with the environment and see things from the carer’s point of view, adjusting behaviours accordingly and understanding that the carer has goals and plans, therefore, and the relationship is seen as partnership. When it comes to the second aspect, creating supportive environments the key element in creating a supportive environment is through reducing the stigma, by being able to talk about mental health and illness quite openly is done through social networking sites such as, Facebook groups, Youtube channel as well as a Twitter network, to create a conversation in the community to show that mental illness isn’t something that should be hidden or discussed. To nurture healthy brain development it is important that the child be in a constructive nurturing environment when away from the primary caregiver. This environment should be social, healthy, interactive, and nurturing.
