The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is a collection of stories by a group of pilgrims who are heading to Canterbury Cathedral. In this book, the pardoner and the reeve show antipodal characters in many ways. The pardoner is beautiful blonde hair man who is being loved by everyone. However he is very corrupted and smart and sells fake religious stuff to people saying very good compliment. On the other hand, the reeve is very serious and honest business man. He is very smart enough to know what criminals think and do. The pardoner story-tells a great example (or tale?) of seven deadly sins and reeve’s story is mocking of the miller. Later, the miller and one of students fight and the miller’s wife hit his head and helped them to escape. Ultimately, the miller lost many things such as family, faith, and money due to his avarice.

The pardoner’s tale depicts that the seven deadly sins inflict human with harsh punishment. The three drunken men who are looking for the death are punished by it through seven deadly sins that once committed; the possibility to go to the heaven abates. Their each sin brings another sin so they later will be end up in extensive sin which is abolished from salvation. Three guys were guilty of gluttony, indulging in wine and lost their ability to think. When they find gold, they become very envious of each other and greedy for wealth. Gluttony unconsciously leads human to murder. When it meets with envy and avarice it is the worst sins. The sins of gluttony, envy, and avarice lead them to the death that they desire to face to.
In the reeve’s tale, the main character, the miller is very envy and greedy for wealth. The miller was proud man who obtains the daughter of the clergyman who should be faithful and honest to husband due to moral by religion and wealthy which is partly from stealing. He appears as he got everything. However, he was also guilty of sloth due to aversion to make money by his own hands.
