Society and Environment
The connection between society and Environment is very crucial. However, to be able to understand the connection between the two first it is important to understand what the two terms mean individually. A society is a group of people involved in a social interaction and the deeper study of society, human behavior and related concepts is called sociology. Furthermore, Environment is our physical and biological factors along with their chemical interactions which affect an organism or a number of organisms.
As we know that society and environment have a connection. It is true that sociology plays a key role in the concept of environment. This happens because environment affects the society in many different ways. Hence, sociology plays a key role in the study of environment as well. Furthermore, there is a concept of Environmental sociology. Environmental Sociology is a branch of sociology and deals with interaction between the human society and the environment. It further focuses on the affects of humans on the environment and vice-versa and tries to solve the issues that emerge between the two.

This can happen only when people become sensitive towards to the environment. Human Social activities play an important role in harming the environment. Activities like Industrialization, loss of ecological balance, Air pollution, water pollution, excessive use of natural resources, and extinction of wildlife etc. lead to various other environmental problems. It is important to understand that all these problems are interconnected and it further leads to a major problem. Furthermore, it is very important to follow a plan in the case of an environment as unplanned urbanization and agricultural plans lead to various other problems. Sociology is the study of society and the different social structures within it. Social structures examples of large groups that are in society. For example, family, religion, health and social care, mass media, economic system etc.
Sociology is the study of social life and the change and consequences of human behavior. Human behavior is social in nature, the topic of sociology ranges from divisions of race, gender and sociology of work and sports. In my opinion, sociology is one of the few fields which have such a broad scope and relevance for breadth, depth and application.
Environmental Studies is the academic field, which systematically studies human interaction with the environment in which we live in. It is a broad field of study that includes the natural environment, built environment, and the sets of relationships between them. Environmental studies takes into account many different factors that help provide an enjoyable, fruitful way of life, such as national policies, politics, laws, economics, sociology and other social aspects, planning, pollution control, natural resources, and the interactions of human beings and nature.
The history of how society came about is very old but short, only emerging during the 19th century. Therefore, it is one of the youngest as well as one of the oldest of the social sciences. According to the American Sociological Association sociology is the study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. In many dictionaries society is described as a community of people living together in a group or nation. Even though it may simply mean that; society is one of the sociological terms derived from a Latin word “socious” meaning friendship or companionship. It is a large grouping sharing the same cultural, social and geographical location. Society consists of people and their mutual awareness and interactions with each other, it is a network of social relationships. Society can be shown as a group of unique individuals who share the same culture and social structure, the members of the society may have different ethnic groups but they share the same society. Society is not a constant it can never stay the same it always changes with the people.
The social environment is composed of the elements in our surroundings that are human or of human origin. The natural environment is composed of nonhuman elements in our of the group to which we belong. Our natural environment depends primarily on the climate, water resources, soil, topography, and animal life and mineral resources of the part of the world in which we live in. It is concerned not only with the number of people in an area but also with factors that may be causing their number to increase or decrease. The Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) is the most important government anti-pollution agency: it directs antipollution efforts and monitors environmental problems.

Society may be defined as a group of people living in agreement, having the same moralistic and judicial rules and standards. To live in a society, one must accept these standards and adopt them as their own. For example, living in the United States indicates that you respect the life, liberty and property of each individual, and you decide to accept the punishment if you violate any of these natural rights. Although one may not always agree with these standards, they choose to make sacrifices for the well-being of others. Society is responsible for creating an image of the ideal person, family, environment, and way of life. Our modern day society has dictated its own definition of beauty, happiness, and success. It seems society has accidentally tied these three together, and since these definitions are not universal, different societies may assign different meanings to each concept. Unlike societies explain why there are so many contrasting beliefs and viewpoints throughout the world today. The growth and morals of society are exclusively dependent on those who choose to be a part of something greater than them. Societies tend to grow only when people come to an understanding to be involved. Society is an accumulation of majority rule and the goals of the majority.
Society, on the other hand, is made up of individuals; people live together in communities. The development of people depends on the environment, which in other words, depends on how organizations manage it to make it a healthy society. Therefore, whether a society is healthy or not does has an impact on individuals.
Sociology is the study of the behavior of people and groups within society. This helps out how society works and thinks, If people understand how society thinks we can improve it. With this in mind, you can apply sociology theories and ideas to any scenario of daily life dealing with person to person interaction or even to an individual in regards to the society.

Any society is made of norms, values and beliefs that have the effect of constraining individuals’ thoughts and behaviors. Through understanding and sociological imagination, individuals can remove or at least lessen the social forces’ impacts that are causing the constraints.
I thought the concept of sociology referred to how people socialize in communities. Little did I know that sociology study all aspects of life, including how society and people affect each other positively or negatively. I also did not know that sociology looks at what makes people exhibit behaviours that may deviate from the set norms and values of society.
