Congenital Muscular Torticollis Congenital muscular torticollis is a condition in which the neck muscle that goes from the bottom of the skull to the collarbone (sternocleidomastoid muscle) is shorter than normal, causing the head to tilt to one side. The condition is present at birth (congenital). CAUSES The cause of this condition is not known. This condition is often related to an injury to the sternocleidomastoid muscle or a deformity of this muscle. This muscle may be injured or deformed as a result of: An abnormal position of the head in the womb. A difficult birth. A birth in which the buttocks or feet come out first (breech birth). Other muscles or bones that are not formed correctly. A neck spinal cord abnormality. …show more content…
If you have any questions, contact the health care provider. Carry your child as shown by your health care provider. You want your child to have to look away from the short side of his or her neck. This will stretch your child’s sternocleidomastoid muscle. Support your child's head when he or she is in a carrier or car seat. Put toys where your child has to turn to see them. Toys that make sounds work best for getting your child's attention. Put your child in a crib so that looking out means turning his or her head. Change positions often when feeding your child. Keep all follow-up visits as told by your child's health care provider. This is important. SEEK MEDICAL CARE IF: Exercise at home is not helping. Your child is having trouble balancing, especially when sitting upright. Your child is having trouble feeding. Usually, stretching the sternocleidomastoid muscle will cause it to lengthen over time.T Support your child's head when he or she is in a carrier or car seat.T Put toys where your child has to turn to see them. adhere to in order to improve a child’s health and protect them from harmful effects of family life,
4. Rationale: Assisting the mother while she breastfeeds her infant provides the nurse with the opportunity to give feedback, including positive reinforcement for correct latching position or to correct poor latching position. A good latching position creates an adequate suction of milk removal (Lowdermilk, Perry, Cashion, and Alden, 2012).
Baby carriers are designed to make the world a little easier for parents. These carriers are intended to allow us the hands free hold, which comforts both parent and baby, without having to stop our everyday tasks.
* Be able to provide routines for babies and young children that support their health and development.
Ring slings have become increasingly popular with many parents today. Through two metal or nylon rings a cloth is woven and made into a pouch like apparatus. The cloth wraps around the carrier’s body and is supported by one shoulder. The threaded cloth creates a buckle like effect that prevents the cloth from slipping. The baby is placed inside the little pouch either laying down or sitting up. Once the proper adjustments have been made, the child can easily be put in the sling as well as removed. In addition, parents are able to remove the sling with little hassle and put it back on just as quickly. Most parents find that it provides one of the safest baby wearing experiences available.
The purpose of this study was to see and learn about caregivers and physicians knowledge and comfort levels regarding safety restraint transitions with belt positioning booster seats. The literature review section of this article was short, but very factual. It was not full of jargon and was very easy to read and understand. This section was very informative and talked about belt-positioning booster seats (BPBs) which are normally used for children between the ages of four to eight or under four foot nine inches. This section also talked about how forty-three states (as of 2008) had passed laws mandating booster seats for varying
The most obvious clinical sign of SMA is generalized, symmetric weakness that affects proximal more than distal muscles and upper more than lower extremities. Upper cranial nerves are spared in SMA, but bulbar muscle weakness can cause a variety of symptoms such as a weak cry, secretion pooling, aspiration, difficulty with feeding and dysphagia. The diffuse weakness affects many systems including respiratory
and exercise. Whilst early on vision is best at 25cm they can gradually focus on objects further away. • Intellectual Development: Baby explores its environment by putting objects in its mouth. They become aware of different smells and can recognise familiar faces and voices. Baby can focus on moving objects and responds to brightly coloured bold images. Baby is egocentric. • Communication and Language Development: Baby will turn head towards sounds and recognises familiar voices – will stop crying when it hears them. States in 1991, in an effort to inform parents that they should place their infant on their back when sleeping. Many parents, mainly among minority families, are still unaware of this prevention step. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplained death of an infant less than one year of age after having done a complete postmortem examination and investigation of the scene of death. There are no causes that have been found that make it clear as to why SIDS is so common. The rate of SIDS decreased dramatically when the Back to Sleep campaign was started to encourage parents and caregivers that infants were placed on their back while sleeping (Hockenberry & Wilson, 2015, p. 473). The most common ways that these deaths have occurred are the infant’s sleeping environments and their positioning. Research shows that infants that sleep in the prone position are most at risk
Heat stroke in children is becoming a bigger problem because of children being placed in backs seats. I want to start out with habits parents or caregivers should practice. It would be a great idea to leave your phone next to your child's car seat, because you aren't very likely to forget your phone for too long. Another good idea would be to put the car seat directly behind you, that way you bump it when unbuckling and to remind you your child is with you. If you forget things easily it is a good idea would be to move something out of its normal place or put the diaper bag next to you to trigger your memory. Another example of what you could do to prevent child heat stroke would be to use technology. A child car seat sensor would
Chauffeur companies can lend a helping hand to parents and guardians who have a compact schedule and are not able to bring or retrieve their child(ren) to and from school. In addition, the chauffeurs are children-friendly and have an overall kind disposition. According to HopSkipDrive CEO Joanna McFarland, “We call them ‘caredrivers’ because they are caregivers first and drivers second.” This statement reinforces the fact that the drivers are safe. Other than the fact that most of the chauffeurs are female, which generally brings comfort to young children, they put care as a priority over getting the child to their destination immediately under no circumstances, so if a child was feeling unwell (cough, mildly feverish, stomach ache, etc.)
When it comes to the Podee Hands Free Bottle Feeding System, there are a significant number of mothers who are weighing in order to endorse the effectiveness of the product. Despite a mother’s greatest effort, it is literally impossible to be present with their child 100 percent of the time, and subsequently, feeding them on cue can be quite a challenge. One particular situation comes to mind when addressing the challenges that can arise surrounding feeding an infant. When a mother is driving, especially for a significant amount of time, a hungry baby can make that ride unbearable. The Podee Hands Free Bottle Feeding System provides mothers with an alternative to breaking work to feed or making
