The Philadelphia Orchestra Percussion Group performed at Widener University on October 23, 2016. The concert lasted approximately one hour and a total of five pieces were performed. The pieces they performed were called, Music of Pieces of Wood, Gainsborough, Seoul Spirit, Zones, and Little Rhumba. The group consisted of five performers, Chris Deviney, Don Liuzzi, Angela Nelson, Phillip O’Banion, and Victor Pablo. The performers used a variety of percussion instruments throughout the concert; however, some of the instruments that were used in most of the pieces were the timpani, marimbas, chimes, cymbals, and bass drums. My general reaction to the concert was that it was very relaxing and enjoyable. I was impressed with the musicians and the way they performed. The musicians were rhythmically together and seemed very prepared for the concert. The visual setup was attracting because the musicians had a variety of instruments displayed, some of which I never seen before. The atmosphere was relaxed yet intense upon the performers, which made me more attentive. The performers seemed to have put a lot of energy into the concert. I …show more content…
In this piece, I could clearly hear the melody and the instruments that supported it. The dynamics in Gainsborough changed throughout the three movements. The first movement is lively and features quick lines between the marimbas, with interruptions from the timpani. The second movement is slow and has more of a harsh sound to it. A jazzy recitative also appears in the middle of this movement, in order to change the dynamics. The last movement is quick and rhythmically active. This movement employs the concepts of melody and harmony, just not in conventional ways. Hearing the glockenspiel and marimbas helped to carry the melody. I could hear a combination of consonances and dissonances, as a result of the balance between the melody and the
All of the performers looked very comfortable and in their element. I did notice that one of the players while doing their solo accidently forgot a measure of music, but they quickly picked back up. This experience was new to me, but it was exactly like I expected it to be. It followed a stereotypical jazz concert to a tee. I honestly enjoyed the music being played but I did not enjoy my time spent their. This concert was one of the longest ones I had been to and it was frustrating. I was planning on taking my bookbag into the concert with me to take notes on the performance, but i was forced to leave my bookbag in the hallway outside of the auditorium. If it was not a requirement I probably would not go again. I would much rather go to a concert that I knew a friend who was performing in one, it would be a lot more entertaining for me. Although this concert is not something I typically would enjoy I would definitely recommend this concert to others who enjoy jazz and listening to music who is played by talented younger
In the exhilarating tale, The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, a character that would serve well as a best friend is Hans Hubermann. Hans is a great example of someone who is a great friend because he is very compassionate. Hans showed compassion in the story when he cared for Liesel as his own daughter and when he risked his life for the sake of Max Vandenburg’s. On page 36 of the text, it states, “Every night, Liesel would nightmare. … Possibly the only good to come out of these nightmares was that it brought Hans Hubermann her new papa into the room to soothe her, to love her.” This shows that Hans Hubermann is compassionate towards Liesel and he is there when she needs love. Also, Liesel can count on him to lift up her spirits when she is feeling
The show all started from open performances from Post Malone and Moxy Raia. When buying the tickets I didn’t know who these artists were so I had to look them up. Post Malone is a rapper and guitarist, so I thought he should be good. Therefore, when I got into the arena I was excited to listen to him, but it was awful. He was so loud and he didn’t really sing. I would never want to go back and listen to him again. This got my expectations down for the concert. I definitely
Overall the performance was a great experience. It was wonderful to hear music from an area that was previously unknown to me. The ancient musical language and centuries old instruments were a wonder to uphold. Not to mention the brilliant collage of Kyrgyz and American styles. I hope to hear more from this ensemble in the
Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) entails many underlying laws and requirements governing it in trading within a country and internationally. The international trade part has in recent years raises the question as to whether states should change the laws or not. The current laws can bring about many issues causing the downfall of many large businesses. This makes it hard to conclude on the effect of U.C.C. on international commerce coming along with many factors depending on the side it leans more. Common law, on the other hand, is a legal system that involves matters such as jury trials, and presumption of innocence.
The concert was performed on the Southam Hall stage at the NAC; this is a large hall with extremely good acoustics. It is a nationally known stage, so the quality of the hall is very good. Generally, the audience was very receptive as it was composed of adults, who were all silent. The acoustics were very good as the hall spread the sound throughout the hall without making it echo. This had a positive effect on the performance, because it was possible for the orchestra to be clearly heard from any point in the entire hall. I was impressed by the large number of students that I saw that night because the show deserved to have been heard by many young people.

On Sunday night February 26, I went to the music center located at New Mexico State university to the Atkinson recital hall to watch the North American Saxophone Alliance region conference concert. The concert only consisted of saxophones and a few accompaniments first to the stage was Jessica Maxfield who played alto saxophone accompanied by Hannah Crevistion on the piano. The duo played accouple of movements from “Garden of Follies” composed by the Andrew Norman. The first movement they played was “Spandrels”, the tempo on this piece as soon as they start was a very fast tempo and lot of accents marks. She goes on to play to play four more movements called “Crossed Paths, Blue Mountains thoughts, Fourth Act and Regarding Crystals”. All the move moments she had played gave a more serious and suspenseful tone. The piano would play notes that were very sharp dissonance notes throughout all the movements and the saxophone would bring it more to a tonic sound but it’s still very textural music, and lots of sharps played.
On November 3rd, 2016 I had a pleasure of attending James Levine’s symphony at Chicago Symphony Orchestra. James Levine is an American pianist and conductor, mainly known for being a music director of the Metropolitan Opera. He suffered many health conditions that have put his conducting aside. At the end of 2015, he left his position as a director to become an emeritus of the Metropolitan Opera. One of the interesting facts about Mr. Levine is that many of the sources do not mention is his disability. Mr. Levine is in a wheelchair and needs assistance in order to get to the podium, but his conducting is not effected by this in fact his efforts and dedication put audience into tears every time. On November 3rd, James Levine conducted Mozart’s
What I enjoy during the concert was the dancers performing without being distracted or scare by the audience. Granted it’s to be expected and the dancers are not strangers to this, but nice to see performers not buckle down to the pressure of fear because of the audience. At the same time, I understand that they do, but what I have seen they didn't show it. What I don't like was not the quality the dances, but the different types of dances shown. Most dancers I saw only modern or contemporary pieces and the only thing different was the hip hop pieces. I didn't seem to find classical ballet, tap, jazz or anything to diversify the concert. While I didn't find the concert a chore to watch and was engaging, but I find myself looking at the hip hop dances more than I would for modern or contemporary mostly due to something different to watch.
Having some experience with playing the clarinet, this concert was just amazing. Música Viva took place on March 25, 2018 with the musicians being Rich Moore, Jackie Moore, Philip Spencer, David Nuccio, John Lauler and Adam Cowger. Rich Moore, being the lead performer thought all seven compositions, showed the amount of skills he has with the clarinet by playing pieces with a range of melodies, tempos, pitches, rhythms and forms. Each composition had their own distinctive sound making them unique and pleasant to hear with the instruments assigned to that particular composition. Some of the other instruments used in the concert were the viola, piano, bass, percussion, and drum set. Each composition displayed its own kind of mood and element
The first half of the concert was only instrumental. There were two violins, two violas, and two cellos. They sat on stage with the violins one my right, then the violas in the middle, and the cellos on the end. The violins played a few songs solo. The second half of the concert was only the choir and a piano. Their performance started with the song Daybreak. The song Daybreak also had a few girls playing percussion, one of them had a tambourine. Using SHMRG, the Harmony of most of the choirs songs were very homophonic. The Melody of most of the songs were mainly slow, though a couple songs were very fast, and upbeat.
In this Class, I expect to achieve high school level work or just be able to learn enough to go into high school and feel prepared. My goal is to be a good student by participating in class discussion and working as hard as I can to achieve an A grade. I enjoy speaking aloud in class, I'm a good listener and I like to write because it challenges me, makes me use my brain and is also super fun too. As for reading, I like to read but only if it's a good book or were reading
The music played throughout all of the concerts adhered to be diverse. The instruments, the individuals performing, and the conductor all proved to be outstanding. The concerts proved to be interesting as I witnessed them, first hand.
The concert I attended was called the Faculty and Student Recital, which took place in the Cisco Auditorium on April 11, 2017. The music that was on the program was mostly what is called “classical” music, as well as a Chinese Folk Song, an electronic composition, and variations on an Indian Tala. In the classical pieces, the instruments that were used were the violin, the piano, the cello, and the oboe. In the electronic composition, the computer was used to make music. In the Chinese Folk Song, the piccolo was used to imitate the unique timbre of a Chinese flute. In the Indian tala, drums from Ghana were used to imitate the rhythm and sound of Indian drums. The piano, the violin, the cello, and the piccolo all originate
