MUS 110CL Concert Critique Guidelines and Rubric After either attending a live concert or watching a full length concert online, write a critique of the performance following the format below. Here are a few examples of full length concerts you can find online (by conducting a web search using the criteria below) that could be used for this assignment: Coldplay Live In Boston 2012 (Full Concert DVD) Sting: If on a winters night-Live from Durham Cathedral 2009 (watch all 14 songs on concert) Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ron Wood, Bill Wyman, Jan Hammer, Charlie Duke Ellington The Great Paris Concert Richard Galliano/Winton Marsalis - Billie Holiday meets Edith PIAF Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Jazz Center …show more content…
Sometimes the music in a concert will be only one genre. Sometimes there will be several genres performed. Attach the program to your critique, and then refer to the titles in the program. For example: “Autumn Leaves” was performed by a small instrumental ensemble (guitar, bass, and percussion). It is a standard contemporary tune. The tempo was a moderately slow ballad. It had a very mellow sound… 4. Tell how well you think the performers interpreted the music that was on the concert. Were the singers in tune? Did the piano player play musically and rhythmically? Do you think the performers communicated the music as it was meant to be communicated by the composer? 5. Tell which pieces or part of the concert was most moving or enjoyable for you. If you didn’t enjoy the concert very much, tell why you didn’t enjoy it. What could have been better? Be as specific as you can when expressing your opinion of the performance – don’t just write generalities like “It was nice” or “it made me feel like dancing”. Tell why the music made you feel like dancing. Write about why you particularly enjoyed that part of the concert. 6. Conclude your critique by summing up the performance and telling us if you would go to hear these performers again – or would invite your friends or family to hear this performance/performers.
Submit the Concert Critique to the Dropbox no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT of Module 5. (This Dropbox basket is linked to Turnitin.) Critique must be
The first song that I will be evaluating will be Man La Mancha. The first thing that I noticed that my section did really well was the dynamics at measure seventeen. The whole band could work on is staying in balance with other people because you could pick out certain voices in the sections. In delsonaya we really could of brought down are volume when the flute solo came in because she could be barley heard over the band. The bass voices could improve on ninety eight because when we would come up in the menacing it sounded as if we were slurring the notes and not making them prominent. the trumpet on the solo at the start was amazing and sounded perfect and was played musically. This was one of my favorite songs in are concert and I think
My favorite part of the concert was the second part. The group played a song called “Body and Soul.” The guitarist played slowly before the others joined. They created a relaxed atmosphere with an old-school effect. All the notes were legato except the melodies of the drum which was staccato. The combination added character to the piece and made it entertaining. At 19:00, the pianist played briskly but beautifully, then the guitarist did the same. The notes became high pitched and the tempo and dynamics increased. After the guitar stopped, everything went into decrescendo and the melodies from the bass and drums became choppy (staccato). Overall the piece surrounded the theme of dependence and how it affects one’s happiness or strength. The piano and the guitar brought the happy aspect to the piece and without it, everything weakened and became uncoordinated. Initially it celebrated peace,
The concert could be define as the act of performing in public. In order to our music appreciation class to synchronize the theory to the practice. We, students, have been requited by our instructor to write a concert review as an assignment. It is in that sense that I went to the Levitt pavilion and attend to Walt wilkins & mystiqueros.
The concert I chose to do my concert report is on Bucks Vibe. The date of the concert was July 15, that started around 8:00 PM. The location of the venue that Bucks Vibe performed at was the Steamers Jazz Club in Fullerton. As soon as I walked into Steamers Jazz Club, I noticed that the environment and the outlook of the place looks as it is in movies. This place seems like a really great place to listen to live music. Unfortunately, I was seated along the wall and I couldn’t see that much but that is okay. Before Bucks Vibe was getting ready to perform, Peter Buck introduced the musicians in the band which was Peter Buck on the drums, Jamelle Williams on the trumpet, Jamieson Trotter on the piano, and Lyman Medeiros on the bass. Peter Buck
Planning a successful concert requires imagination in addition to an understanding of the goals and logistics of concert presentation. An open and informed mind can make the difference between triumph and disaster. It was imperative
This concert was very relaxed. It took place outside with the audience spread out on blankets in the grass around an impressive stage situated
A great preparation was evident on Thursday by the Stage Band. One of the ensemble performances that I chose to write a review on was played by the Stage Band is called Uptown Funk arranged by M. Sweeney. I chose this piece because the Stage Band had played this piece magnificently; also they had kept the tempo consistent, they did not play too fast nor too slow. The piece was indeed played in tune. Nobody from the Stage Band was off tune, the beats were not off and they sounded like they were playing as a whole band instead of members of the Stage Band playing randomly together. The Stage band did played the piece rhythmically; the rhythm that the Stage Band played is a lot like the actual song that was sung by Bruno Mars. There were also
As discussed throughout this course music is a bridge that brings people together. As I sat through this concert I looked around and noticed that there was a great mixture of cultures and races attending despite the small attendance for the event. Socially I noticed that people were conversing and laughing with one another. Parents were engaging and being attentive to their young children as they ran around on skates and scooters. It made an impression on me that it was a time that for many people, was a bonding experience. Memories were being made for people of all ages.
I can say that I listened a quality jazz concert with little problems. However, this kind of things can happen in the all concert. I congratulate to all players and vocals because to play and sing jazz is hard. They were wonderful. I was never bored during the concert. I could not understand how the concert finished because I thought that before the concert there were six songs so it will be a long concert but it finished fast. The participation was high to the concert. It was certain that the concert will be good from the crowded. I really enjoy to listen jazz so I also went to the jazz ensemble concert last year. Before I went to this year concert, I thought that it will be perfect concert because the last year concert was awesome. To be honest, although this year concert was good, the last year one was more than better. Therefore, I was disappointed little bit. I will go to the jazz ensemble concert next year. I hope it will be perfect because we have very talented teachers and students in jazz. The jazz ensembles concerts can be much better. If the players play very well, their audiences increase because there are quite big jazz audience potential in the SUNY New Paltz. It was good concert but I believe the better ones will be in the
Most of the songs that were performed in the chamber concert on October 20th 2016, were more contextual and emotional approach. With the measures of duple and triple. Some were hard to identify because it jumped to different themes and change in rythmes. The concert dress code was more casual and normal. The performers gave their full potential to bring the music to live. There were six performers overall. They performed a duo and then performed as a whole group to bring a mixture of sound. As three grand pianos and two toy pianos were used to create suspense and bring a set of tone to their audience.
My opinion of the concert it was something new for me, especially I have not been attending any concert in the US. Usually I focused on the kind of music because, it gives me an idea about the song and how beautiful is.
For this concert report I chose to go to a performance of student composers held at the Kimball Recital Hall. I chose this one because I wanted to see some of the talent that my peers have in the music realm, and also it was one of the only concerts I have been able to attend because I usually work at night. It was impressive to hear pieces composed by students. I cannot imagine creating something as complex as a musical composition, much less actually performing it, so this aspect of the concert was particularly awe-inspiring. There was a large attendance, and I think that much of the audience consisted of friends of the composers and/or performers. I went with three friends, who I convinced by telling it would be interesting to see
Into the sloped concert hall the audience trickled. The plush seats began to fill, and the crystal chandeliers illuminated a crowd of well-dressed music aficionados. As the theater filled, the hum of voices increased. A buzz of excitement rose from the growing group, filled with anticipation of an enjoyable evening of musical performances. As the lights began to dim, the hum lowered to a murmur. Bobbing hats and bustling dresses made their way to their handpicked seats, over which long deliberation had been made. Silence became widespread as the expectation of the curtain's imminent rise increased. Then, at last, the thick red shroud rose, revealing a semi-circle of musicians. In smartly pressed black suits and flowing gowns, men and women
There were two students with violas and two students with cellos. They began with “My Lady Hundson’s Puffe” by John Dowland. At the beginning of this song from the Renaissance Era, they plucked the strings of their instruments. One of the cellists left and began to play the harpsicord. I could not tell when this work ended and when the next work, “John Come Kisse Me Now” by William Byrd began. I felt awkward because neither I nor the audience gave applause. This work was also from the Renaissance Era. The harpsichord solo was very unpleasant to listen to. Their final performance was, “Two masquing dances” which featured “The Goates Masque” and “The Witches’ Second Dance”. The works were composer was anonymous. Even though, these two works were from the Renaissance Era, they had more melody and somewhat of a sonata form. This was my least favorite section of the concert.
Overall, I enjoyed the performance; the chance to play such amazing pieces, the opportunity to bring a smile to the audience, and to continue to learn and push myself to better my style of playing. There is always something almost magical about staring out into the audience at the end of a performance; it always brings a smile to my face. As great as the concert turned out to be, there are a few things I wish would have been different, such as, having more room on the stage, having the auditorium be slightly cooler than it was, and performing Riders for the Flag
