Here our focus is on Concept Development. Concept Development looks at the ways teachers use instructional discussions to promote children’s higher-order thinking skills and cognition rather than using rote instruction and recall of facts. One-way is to ask how and why questions as a way to help the children gain a deeper understanding of concepts and develop thinking skills. In this video, the children are comparing bugs and animals. You encourage the children to think about the differences by asking, “Why do you think this is an animal?” This question encourages the children to use their critical thinking skills. Watch the video again and listen to the children’s responses. 1. How do the children respond that demonstrates they are using
I elicited and built upon student’s response to promote thinking and develop understanding of science concepts through questioning to get student think critically about what they did at each station and how it fit together what we see happen outside the classroom. it can be seen in the video clip 2 lesson 4 minute , it can been seen in the video that students are actively engaged in answering questions and are willing to give their insight into situation. In video clip 1 The students watch a video about the chemistry of carbon. and while the students watched the video there were a list of the question that each students need to answer it, and one of these questions was asking about “what the protein are made off “This provided students
In chapter one, one main idea concept is firms. Firms can be small or large in scale and simply attempt to make maximize profits or make as much money as possible. Firms take inputs and combines them to add value to what they produce. Firms choose what to produce, how to produce it, where to produce it, the amount of what they produce, and the price to sell their product. A real world example of a firm can be as simple as selling cheap umbrellas on a rainy day. Because it is raining, people are more likely to buy an umbrella, regardless of the quality or price. One detail about a firms that stood out to me was the sentence about the chef who spent $30 on groceries and made an $80 meal. Firms want to spend the least amount of money as possible
Do you ever find yourself wondering how you can form a better connection with your students? You are not alone. In her book, Bad Guys Don’t Have Birthdays, Vivian Paley looks for ways to improve her teaching methods and connect with the children in her class. After coming in contact with a school director that was a fan of promoting abstract thinking, Paley noticed that she was neglecting to take her students’ ideas into consideration and in many instances, focusing more on what she knew to be the answer rather than how her class solved the problem. To change her teaching style, Paley thought it would be better to immerse herself in the many different perspectives of her preschool class rather than presuming that she understands
Pain is one of the most common reason patient seek out help. The concept of pain can affect every person is some form or way. Pain can stand alone as a theory or fix with other theories like Comfort, Self- care, and more. As a surgical nurse I need to have a higher understanding of the patients I care for to ensure they receive the best care. Concept analysis is a form of research that allows a person to explore a theory/ concept to the fullest degree in an organized way. This concept analysis will take Walker & Avant’s steps to form a better understanding into pain.
Alan is a 70-year African American who has given up on life. He does not believe that life is worth living after losing his wife of 48 years to cancer. He has four children and grandchildren who do not live near him and he does not have the desire to visit them. Alan has medical histories that include high blood pressure, diabetes, and a back injury that he had surgery. He is seeing a counselor, because his doctor believes that he is addicted to painkiller called Vicodin. He is taking more than what has been prescribed. He avoids discussing his addiction with his counselor. He states that he is lonely since his wife death. Van Wormer and Davis (2013) mention clients use chemical to dull their senses to hopelessness, isolation, and unresolved loss-grief issues. Alan may have ideas of suicide. The American Psychiatric Association (2013) claim genetic effects an individual without deviation and indirectly.
A study ‘Experiences of childbirth by mothers at the tertiary hospital in Limpopo Province’ was conducted (Maputle & Nolte 2008), and experiences of the mothers during childbirth revealed the major concept ‘woman-centered care’. ‘Woman-centered care’ emerged as a
Racism is still alive in America. It is not as overt but its presence is still felt. I believe there is power in words. The Bible says there is death and life in the power of the tongue. Words can either be used to edify, uplift and encourage or they can be used to tear down, demoralize and debase. Which do you choose? In this essay I will attempt to analyze how African Americans have reclaimed a term that has been used for numerous years to negatively characterize their race and them as people. By changing the spelling of nigger to nigga and using it to express positive attributes such as brotherhood and inclusion it has aided
The concept of comfort is one that nurses provide every shift; however, it is not always easy to define. Katherine Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory will be used. Walker and Avant’s method for concept analysis will be used. The first step is to select a concept, which is comfort. The next step is determining the purpose of the analysis. The purpose is to define what comfort means and what comfort measures are and how they are used in nursing. The third step is to identify the uses of the concept of comfort. This includes definitions of term comfort and a literature search. The fourth step is to determine the defining attributes of comfort. This allows for insight into the
The first part of the lesson is Engage. For this portion, I played a video to engage students and to allow visual learners to take in the information. For the Explore part, students have to research/explore different types of bird life cycles individually or in groups. This supports intrapersonal and interpersonal learners who may chose to work in groups or alone. This part also supports logical learners, as students need to think critically about the information they will be sharing with the rest of the class. During the Explain portion, I will be using visual support through the reading of a book. I will then brain storm with student why and how a chicken life cycle works, once again, supporting logical learners through critical thinking. Throughout the Elaborate section, students will recreate the life cycle of a chick through a dance, a play, a poem or a song. Giving students options on how they want to work is a way to accommodate and support their unique learning style. These specific activity supports all types of learners. Visual learners will be able to watch their peers perform; kinesthetic learners will be able to perform (through movement) what they know; musical learners will be able to demonstrate their knowledge musically; intrapersonal learners can work alone and quietly; interpersonal learners can work in groups, being able to share their findings with others; verbal learners will be able to communicate their knowledge and to brainstorm with peers and teacher during the process; logical learners will have ample of opportunities to do critical thinking; and naturalistic learners, who have an inclination on classifying fauna and flora, will be drawn to this subject as it is heavily concentrate on fauna. Thus, students will able to choose an activity that better suits them, while learning
There are many different ways that educators can help to engage their students in learning, some of them more suited to certain age groups or knowledge areas than others, but one of the most effective means of generating real learning and not just learning, but a real enthusiasm for learning at any age or learning level is through the equal discussion of knowledge with students. That is, active discussions in which the instructor participates and perhaps facilitates but does not instruct provides some of the most effective instruction of all, because it gives students the empowerment necessary to actually guide their own thinking and draw their own conclusions. An instructor or indeed another classmate might challenge these conclusions, requiring more rigorous thinking or more abundant citing of evidence, but this only improves the thinking and the learning process all the more. Essentially, this mode of teaching which requires a level of personal engagement, enjoyment, and humility from the educator helps to inspire and promote critical thinking, and this is advantageous in all respects.
Today’s nursing profession encompasses a variety of specialties and disciplines that demonstrate a wide range of phenomena. According to McEwin and Willis, in clinical practice, those phenomenon that are frequently seen aid advanced practice nurses in developing interventions and clinical protocols because they are said to be stable and reliable components of the practical nursing experience (McEwin & Willis, 2011, p. 47). The observed phenomena may or may not have had research studies associated with them in the past to concretely define them, and
This has been the first time I taught a concept discovery lesson. I am very pleased with this strategy, as it doesn’t focus on memorization of facts, or teaching some factual information, but it invites the students to bring their own thinking to the study, and transfer their understanding across various areas of their life. I wish more teachers would implement teaching concepts into their social studies curriculum, which according to Erickson (2001), is a mean to have students think critically and analytically about the new situations they
To nurture agriculture sector and to improve dependency of farmers or investors on middlemen, there is the need to develop a much informed, transparent, accurate and easy mode of market operation for all the stakeholders. Virtual market can deliver through an electronic transaction platform for commodities where buyer and seller carry out trade in anonymous manner through ICT (Information, communication and technology) applications.
