Children who used the internet for more than one year got very high GPA’s than the children who used it less for the improvement of academics. Children who used internet have scored more in standardized tests of reading than the others who used it less than the six months. But when we compare the standardized test scores in mathematics internet has no effect in the achievement of solving mathematics.
Greater use of Internet at home will be associated with better academic performance in the months that follow than will less home internet use.
As per the evidence (Subrahmanyam et al., 2000, 2001) there is a relationship between playing computer games and visual spatial skills, similarly owning a computer at home and school academic

As per the evidence obtained from parents children are forbidden to participate in chat or activities that includes with strangers online (Jackson et al., 2004). At times internet use for the communication purpose depends upon the culture of the people as most of the African American culture includes the “oral culture” (Hale, 1982). As it is one the reason why it needs to be proved that mostly they prefer one to one communication than the people from other cultures. However Children’s socio demographic features were also can be responsible for the vivid nature of internet use by children as the evidence from proved that the elder children use internet more than the younger children. However no research has proved that age influences the benefits of internet use in improving the academic performance (Jackson et al., 2004)
Internet can be considered as a global communication tool because of its popularity in adolescents and as a source of health information. It can also be used by the school dropout to seek information related to sexual aspects where they cannot find information in their surrounding environment. Thus it can also be considered as a cultural tool kit as it can be shared as the information can be saved and transmitted to the next generations for greater access and technological innovations (Jackson et al., 2004).
So finally internet is a tool kit with ‘n’ number of applications which has its own use.

Internet has become an indispensable tool in my daily tasks. Contrary; when I was a child, I recall myself going to the library for investigations as back then the use of internet was still on the road of gaining popularity. Nowadays, internet seems to have gained tremendous popularity among new generations to the point that if I were to compare my generation with future generations, I would say they will have even more advantages than the ones I had when I was a child. In addition, changes in population is a second normative history-grade influence as my generation tends to have less children than past generations due to the implementation of contraceptive methods and living cost increases experienced since the past few
In contemporary times, the technological advancement known as the Internet, has revolutionized the way in which society is educated. This tool greatly impacts not only the field of education, but every aspect of society. Indeed, Lewin documents, “those ages 8 to 18 spend more than seven and a half hours a day” (A1), connected to the Internet. This citation illustrates the extensive amount of time today’s youth are online. To that end, the Internet is prevalent in many homes throughout the world and continues to influence the way in which people are educated both in the classroom and even while performing homework. The impact of the Internet becomes evident when one begins to examine similarities and differences between the slew of
This scholarly article features the relevance of technology when factoring into the cogni-tive development of someone during childhood. With more and more children having ac-cess to devices that connect them to the Internet, adults continue to worry about the ad-vent of technology having an adverse reaction to them. To find out if there was any corre-lation between the Internet and children’s cognitive abilities during their development, the authors sampled over 150 students between the first and sixth grades using questionnaires and
While there might be more downsides to the internet there are some people that want to believe that it is very beneficial to society. She explains how the intern et has given schools the ability to broaden their curriculum to a wider spectrum. Teachers in classrooms K-12 use the internet as a research or reference tool for their assignments and other coursework. She done a study that has shown that internet use can increase success in the classroom. Online classes and internet use in the classroom has been proven to broaden students’ ability to be more social and technically incline. Her studies have also shown that it gets the students more interested in school work by making it more fun for them. “Students who have more self-confidence with the internet have better success in online classes and have higher grades than others who feel uncomfortable with the internet” (119). While the internet isn’t always good it has helped kids think more outside the box (Ronsisvalle and Watkins
On the negative side, children are spending more time indoors playing computer games or the equivalent, but they are not developing interpersonal relationships. As the internet is becoming less of a modern convenience and more of a necessity for humans, young and old, it should be noted that the internet can cause impaired academic achievement, bad time management, and problems with health and interpersonal relationships (Lai & Gwung, 2013). In another study, Laverick (2009) states the children of the 21st century have lives that are interwoven with technology. These children do not know of a world without technology; in the study, this is called “an Eculture” (Laverick, 2009).
A new epidemic has fallen over America and is spreading like wild fire across the states as more and more fall victim to its claws. That epidemic is known as internet addiction which many of today’s youths are prone to due to the widespread usage of technology. Excessive use of the internet has proven hazardous to the generation because it decreases cognitive ability, impairs social development, and increases health problems. Since the current American society relies heavily on technology and web searches through google, the internet has become a necessary essential and making addiction almost inevitable.
“Internet, mobility, and multimedia are important technology tools that are used in education industry” (Hameed 372).Although the internet is an important tool in the classroom and out, it does have downsides. Websites have become more commercialized, and this has made searching through websites difficult since not all websites are reliable. In the Journal done by Shihab Hameed he says that statistics show that teenagers use the internet more than adults, they use the internet to play games, listen to music and meet new people. Hameed also mentions that it reduces student activity. Students are able to get solutions to homework and as result
The repetition of the statement claiming that video games do not help children in their educational enterprises is unfair. There have been numerous studies conducted providing evidence that children gain structural knowledge while engaging in video game play (Pillay 2002).
Children meet and make new friends online. Socialized children become better students. The target of internet has always been communication, People are now trying to make it faster, and more reliable. Earth has changed a ton over the years now that we have internet. Today for better communication, children can e-mail, communicate with parents, and friends, and look things up on the internet for research.
Today, the Internet is the center of attention for businesses, governments, schools and individuals around the world. It has produced new industries, transformed existing ones, and has become a global cultural experience not only for adults but for children as well. It is a learning tool used to educate in schools and within our homes. The surfacing of the Internet as another means of electronic communication has had a transformative influence on social interaction.
With the development of internet, people are able to meet new friends who have the same interest or hobby through the internet. Although, it is easy to make friends on internet, people do not know whether the person they are talking to is good or bad. Some people will also spend most of their time on internet which leads them to less interaction with friends and family. Parents should concern more about their children while they are meeting new friends on internet. Although the internet allows people to stay in touch with distant family and friends, I think the negative effects
As stated by the author Sue Ferguson in the article “How Computers Make Our Kids Stupid,” computers and the internet distract students from real learning, which is evident by the poor academic achievement associated with excessive and improper use of computers and internet (Ferguson 2). This view is supported by a massive study conducted by University of Munich economists Thomas Fuchs and Ludger Woessmann in November, 2004, with a subject pool of 174,000 15 year-olds in reading, 97,000 each in math and
Since the Early 70’s video games have been giving a bad name. Parents state that video games rot the minds of children and are influencing them do be violent. These accusations are far from the truth. In my research I found that there are many positive effects of gaming. Some of these effects are increased skills, creativity, general knowledge, and also help those in need. Parents can also take proper precautions and look into a game before buying it to see if it meets the criteria discussed in this paper.
In Phuoc Tran and Kaveri Subrahmanyam (2013) journal article it explains and gives us evidence on how digital tools are and have become an important tool when it comes to children’s learning and development. They mention Vygotsky’s theory, on how cognitive development happens with the use of computers because it is a tool that is part of our culture. These tools are important because it helps the children develop many different skills (Tran and Subrahmanyam, 2013). They mention different pathways that help toward cognitive development. The first pathway is the amount of time that they spend using the computers. Children shouldn’t spend a long time using the computers they should limit their use of computers for a certain amount of time per day. They mention how kids that come from a low-income family and struggle with reading get many beneficial in learning from using the computers. It enhances their school readiness. The second pathway is the way kids interpret the language of the computer. For example, how to navigate a computer. Tran and Subrahmanyam mention, “Research has suggested that playing an electronic game can have positive effects on cognitive
Thousands of websites are distracting students from studying time. In an experiment at Cornell University, students who used internet-connected laptops during a lecture did much worse on a subsequent test than students who did not use the internet (Carr, 2010). It indicated that using the internet in class impacts students’ attention span (2010). Distractions can take attention away from learning. In fact, using the internet does not promote study efficiency, but wastes time.
