Our focus was determined by The School Improvement Team (SIT) based on recommendations from the Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA) provided by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and shared in part A of AAPSL. Literacy skills is the focus and the improvement of literacy skills is our instructional aim in order to improve English II EOC scores. Therefore, instruction that is relevant and rigorous will be used to improve testing.
A community health assessment is a fundamental instrument of public health practice. Its objective is to depict the health of the community, by presenting information on health standing, community health needs, resources, and epidemiologic and other studies of present local health problems. It seeks to recognize target populations that may be at augmented risk of poor health results and to increase a better understanding of their needs, as well as evaluates the larger community surroundings and how it relate to the health of people. It also identifies those areas where better information is desired, particularly information on health differences amid different subpopulations, quality of health care, and the incidence and severity of disabilities in the population. The Community Health Assessment is the foundation for all local public health development, giving the local health component the instance to recognize and network with key community leaders, businesses and concerned residents about health priorities and concerns. This information shapes the foundation of improving the health status of the community by way of a strategic plan (The Municipal Public Health Services Plan Community Health Assessment Guidance and Format, n.d.).
In the state of South Carolina, the high school English standards contain six parts: inquiry-based literacy, reading literary text, reading informational text, writing, communication, and disciplinary literacy. The South Carolina Common Core Reading Standards (2015) explicitly state for students in high school “Reading, writing, communicating, thinking critically, and performing in meaningful, relevant ways within and across disciplines are essential practices for accessing and deeply understanding content (pp. 107).” Additionally, these standards, if followed by the classroom teacher, creates students who are college and career ready by challenging them to participate in interdisciplinary study and curriculum integration through real-world
The purpose of this needs assessment is to identify areas where enhancements in the health care delivery system can improve both the accessibility of care as well as guide preventive health services for those most at risk for poor health outcomes. While needs assessments bring attention to the underlying factors associated with good or poor health status and sufficient access to care, LSCC is uniquely positioned as a FQHC serving almost 80,000 Central Texas residents to improve population health by forming strategic partnerships and innovative collaborations with not only other health care providers and health-related organizations, but local and state governments and community-based organizations as well. The following section identifies
Public health has the interests of the public at its core. According to the Department of Health (DoH) (2012) Public health is concerned with prevention and therefore encourages people to ‘stay healthy’ and ‘avoid getting ill’.
The population that I will be focusing on for the Community Needs and Services paper includes those individuals between the ages of 18 and 45 that struggle with opioid addiction who have become involved in the Criminal Justice system. The paper will analyze specifically what demographics constitute the prison population and those who are continuously participating in community supervision under the Justice system who are addicted to opiates or other narcotics. The ability to obtain funding for this population and the resources available while transitioning from a Court room to the community or a prison facility
The organization I choose is Dignity Health Mercy Medical Center Redding (MMCR), located in Northern California. MMCR 2014 Community Health Needs Assessment Report is easy to read and understand. They provided the picture of the community they are serving and what are the problems that need priority. The hospital catered on communities in Shasta, Tehama and Trinity County. What I noticed is that the community they are serving is mostly Caucasian (79.6%), only 11% Hispanic. Out of the 209, 900 population, 17.3% were uninsured, 21.7% on Medi-cal with 10.9% unemployment rate. Most of the people seeking medical help go to the Emergency Department for non-acute medical services. MMCR priority is to have a community-based collaboration with other non-profit organization will address the existing problem the community is facing and to provide a long-term plan that will benefit the community in the future.

The Comprehensive Needs Assessment was completed through analysis of student achievement data on the MEAP assessment. The results are from 2014 and prior as the MEAP assessment has now been replaced by MStep assessment. The results were used to gain a clear understanding of the effectiveness of school programs/process and curriculum in order to be able to fully support the students at Universal Academy.

The article “Relations Between the CCSS and RTI in Literacy and Language” begins with explaining that there is decline in learning literacy and literacy knowledge in students. Response to Intervention (RTI) and Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts (CCSS-EL) are considered the solution to the literacy problem (Wixson, 2012). The authors of the article go in to great detail to explain RTI and CCSS and there collaboration in the process of improving literacy and language.
Research is conducted in a variety of different ways using different methods and methodologies. How these methods are used is imperative to how clear and accurate research will be. Community needs assessment is a research method used by many researchers that assists in finding gaps within a particular target group within a particular community. Throughout this paper I will discuss what a community needs assessment is and when and how it is used. I will also discuss some of the strengths and limitations of this method. I then continue to explain some theoretical and practical perspectives when dealing with this method and how it would apply when conducting your own research in a
A necessity for a school system devoted to sustained improvement of the teaching and learning process is the creation of a comprehensive school improvement plan. The benefit of such a plan is that it provides quality control, internal conformity, communication linkages and financial assistance necessary for ensuring sustained improvement towards meeting the school district’s vision, mission and goals. The improvement plan selected will focus on student writing skills. This plan will reflect the data and research necessary for successful implementation and will be linked to the Nebo School district’s mission and vision, specifically Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC) standards 2.2 and 3.1 and the Utah Core Curriculum Standards. The school improvement plan will assist the educational
Moreover, this part would also have issues with face validity. By simply reading the instructions, the task does not have the appearance of only measuring the writing ability. Most importantly, the students’ perception of such validity issue might hinder them to perform in a way that reflects their real ability. We realize that teachers working for this school board had no choice but to use this instrument as is. We do not believe that the instrument should be disregarded, but given the chance to correct some of its weaknesses, we would consider using it. The first important thing we would address is the task dependency. We would revise the C2 reinvesting task in a way that it would not be included in the C3 task anymore. In that way all tasks would be completely dependent. Another example would be to further develop the C3 evaluation grid. We would include more than one criterion and each of them would be more detailed. This would help remove some of the subjectivity and help the measurement being more reliable from one scorer to the other. Another change would be to correct every spelling mistake found in the instructions. We also think that there is room for an actual oral test activity. Such task could have easily been placed in the instrument and would have provided students with an authentic sample of the target language. Our last point would be to correct the weight of each competency to be perfectly in accordance with the MELS program
The purpose of an English teacher is to impart wisdom into the minds of his or her students, through various methods and mediums such as stories, grammar exercises, and literary writing assignments that challenge students to think critically. English is an interesting subject, in relevance to education and philosophy; because, outside of grammar, there are few concrete avenues an educator can take in order to “properly” teach it. However, there are standards by which educational organizations follow and promote, such as the Common Core Standards. One website, concerning the purposes of the Common Core Standards, asserts, “The skills and knowledge captured in the ELA/literacy standards are designed to prepare students for life outside the
At the end of the day, if someone asks me what my ultimate goal for education is, I will tell them, “When my learners leave my classroom, I hope I was able to learn them ‘something’ valuable they can apply in their everyday lives, and that the time spent in my classroom was not a waste.” Thus, whether I teach English Home Language or English First Additional Language, I want my learners to be BICS and CALP proficient in order for them to face the world – socially and academically – with their heads held high when they finish
