The existence of the motion picture industries has been a primary source of media information. In fact, video studio gave birth to some magazines. The is so much obsessed with celebrity and star news leaving the media personnel with no option but dig star gossips as much as they can. The movie industry has been around for quite some time. However, over time it can be appreciated that cultures have regularly changed as time goes by (Thomas 67). Values to be depicted on in a movie vary widely as well as the actors. To get a clear picture of these varying cultures and values, it is important to compare two Hollywood stars; One before the year 1980 and the other one our current time.

A single person to form a totally different personality from that possessed by the acting person must synchronize these skills. Also not to forget mentioning other important capabilities that an actor must have are; utilization of accents, body languages, dialects, improvisation, mimicry, emulation, stage combat and observation (Jurkowski and Francis 44). Another fascinating fact about acting is that it combines both talent and special training programs. Due to this fact it offers opportunities to any person who has an interest in becoming a theatre performer. The training has as well availed a chance for the emergence of professional actors who never seize from learning new elements from now and then. These people are among those who undergo training in various sub-disciplines making them diverse and multifunctional. An actor can be good at singing, dancing, partner work, scene work among others. Bundling all these qualities into one single person is a fascinating element which makes them fit for any duty that might be availed to them. Therefore acting as
In a society where it is so prevalent that you have to do what the public thinks you have to do, it is the people that defy these norms that make progress in the world. Everyone that has helped further society has gone their own path and not worried about what the public thought of them. Since the beginning of time when people not only got scrutinized by their views but often persecuted as well. These same people that have been humiliated are the same ones that have furthered our culture and helped the world thrive. By examining how people defy the social norm and make progress in movies I will show that it is important to follow your own path in life and not worrying about what others think.
People loved the image that MGM created around Judy Garland because of the “degree to which ordinariness was offered as the ultimate moral attribute of the American way of life” (156). The public wanted to gain access to Garland’s life, anywhere from her love life, all the way to how she washes her face each morning was written about because people loved the innocent teen role she consistently played. Whenever there was a chance to catch Judy going about her daily routine, someone had to capture it because people appreciate having a famous individual trying to relate back to the small town values. Garland is actually a “person who escapes into the magic of films” to be someone who is extremely energetic and outgoing because films allowed her to express a different side of emotion that the public did not typically see in real life (168). Garland embraced the role as someone who people looked up to and she felt she carried all the characteristics of a small town girl, trying to make it in the rough and edged Hollywood movie industry. Judy Garland was able to keep establish a positive persona in her younger age because of the way her movies depicted her and also to appeal to the public in an cheerful

It is well-known that Garland was treated extremely poorly by MGM while growing up in the limelight and that it had a huge affect on her mental stability. Perhaps that is why the “A Star is Born” number is so moving; Garland was always a passionate actress, but this particular piece shows a deeper level of understanding and emotion that can only be shown through true feeling. It shows how far Garland has come, and yet reminds us of how much she had to overcome. With the limelight comes a price, a price that MGM reflected in the number, almost mocking Garland throughout
The emphasis on ‘human emptiness’ is compared to contemporary society where culture must be somewhat 'positive' which produces the status quo; 'which does not mean that art is affirmative of bourgeois values, for to affirm those values, however limited they are, is still to affirm a value, a positive quality, to set against the tawdriness of the achievements of bourgeois society' (Dyer, 2002, p. 13). However, Dyer (2002) argues certain objections of sheer manipulation; firstly, not all manipulation works due to stars' fluctuating audience responses from their careers, i.e.: Anna Sten in The Great Stars. In contradiction to Boorstin and Marcuse, Dyer’s interpretation of manipulation are raised against the view of the star phenomenon. Boorstin and Marcuse do not examine the content of star images, but solely focus on the stars’ outer appearances and ‘superficial’ content; 'where the stars images are seen as acceptable in the medium and/or seen in context to their roles or filmic representations' (Dyer, 2002, p. 14). Due to fluctuating audience control and outward appearance used as manipulation, Boorstin and Marcuse identify human consciousness to play a critical role in manipulation as it becomes dependent towards the behavioural
The nineteen twenties’ film “ The Jazz Singer” is not entertaining to a modern audience, due to the contrasting values portrayed within the film, which differ from those in modern society. Ninety years after the film was released, much has changed in popular culture. Our population is much more fast paced, liberal, and enticed with audio and visual effects. “The Jazz Singer” is a silent, black and white film. As a result, the film is unappealing to contemporary audiences, who much prefer an action driven film, which include explosions and sexualized story lines.
Griffith lay on his bed , looking at the picture his best friend just posted on Instagram, tagging some of his other friends that he had been hanging out with today. Griffith was immediately filled with paranoia, anger and irrational fear after looking at it. His mind rants about how much of an ass Haven is and how he hopes he dies, how he wished that his friends would die, how he doesn't matter to Haven, how he's going to be replaced. Griffith growls as he struggles with the completely irrational thoughts going through his head. This happens ever time Haven hung out with anyone besides him or started dating someone. He hated it, how his stomach dropped and his chest filled with this weird almost painful feeling, how he immediately started
Some people can captivate a room by just being themselves. There is something someone who is unafraid to embrace themselves, quirks and all, that draws others in and leaves a lasting impression. This is unique quality was one of the first things I noticed about Hugh Rennie, and remains one of the things I admire the most about him.
Andy Griffith, the comedian who warmed your hearts. This iconic actor/singer was born June first, 1926; Mount Airy,North Carolina. He was also very poor when he was younger. He was so poor, he had to live with relatives, some of his life, really only three-to-four years. Because when he turned three, his dad finally got a job, as a carpenter and that’s when he started saving up for a house for him, his wife and his son.But until then he had to sleep in dresser drawers for beds because they didn’t have money for a bed either. His family was very down to earth people who were very funny, and had a good sense of humor. He was an only child, which was probably the best because they honestly, probably couldn’t afford another kid.
just like stardom charisma requires to be established in the particularities of the ideological structures to which it belongs, so also essentially all sociological studies of stardom disregard the particularities of another point of view of the phenomenon – the audience. (Assumptions about the audience as a generalised, homogenous collectivity abound in writings on stars) The importance of conflicts as stars relying on audience in regarding the stardom phenomenon are indicated by Andrew Tudor and Edgar Morin to the influence that specifically strong star-audience relationships happen amongst teenagers and women. They suggest some observational evidence for this aspect. These parties all share an especially strong degree of identity/role contradiction
D. W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation illustrates the highly contrasting characters that show Griffith's perspective of the racial point of view in America. His ideological development is white superiority and black subordination. The film deals with the events leading up to the civil war, the war itself, and the reconstruction of the South. The film illustrates the South's fight to incorporate blacks and whites. The film centers around two families, one from the North and one from the South. We see the war crush both families and the connections between them. In the long run, the blacks in the South are depicted as lazy, desire filled animals that can't control their sexuality. The film closes with the KKK sparing the lives of pure white women and Southern whites holding control using power.
In today's busy world, people usually struggle to find time for fun and a way of relaxation but when it happens, they often spend it on entertainment. One of those forms of entertainment is watching stage or film productions. Theatre and film have lots of aspects in common and depend on each other, however, they involve differences. People choose between theater and film based on factors and their own preferences. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast between those two forms of art.
