Benjamin Franklin wrote his first section of The Autobiography in 1771 when he was sixty-five years old. He wrote of his life until the year 1759. Though he never finished writing his autobiography it is filled with his opinions and advice, provides not only a record of his achievements but also an understanding of his character. Sandra Cisneros works have not filled the literary void but charted a new territory for writers who work in semi-autobiographical vein. Each author having different encounters in their lives about how they grew up and the time they wrote each piece of their autobiographies. Franklin viewed success as something he had to active and work hard at it. According to the text, “I was about this time I conceived the bold and arduous project of arriving moral perfection. I wished to live without any fault at any time” (141). Franklin's needed to improve his character in order to achieve what he strived for which was moral perfection. He felt that he needed to be perfect at everything which is not to something a person can achieve overnight. Moral Perfection is next to impossible because everyone makes mistakes and slip ups are most common. She was like a motivator she wanted the readers to understand that instances in her life, for example, making the tortillas or leaving home at an early age was never an excuse for her. She wanted people to follow in her footsteps and to reach their goals in life. She also talks about all her achievements, even though she was not very confident about her work. She makes connections between different events throughout the biography, to other information, which helps the reader learn more about her, and where she comes
