2018 is a big year for the Gold Coast; hosting one of the biggest events in Gold Coast’s history. On the 4th April 2018, an estimated 6600 athletes and team officials will fly to Brisbane airport from over 70 nations and territories. During the week of the Commonwealth Games – 18 sports and 7 para-sports are being contested and broadcasted to a global audience of an estimated 1.5 billion people (http://trademinister.gov.au/releases/Pages/2017/sc_mr_170404.aspx). It is important for business owners to start planning for the future by making changes to staff and business-related travel, freight & delivery services and customer to visit travel. If business owners don’t start planning for the Commonwealth Games now then it is certain that their business will have employers not being able to show up to work because they can’t access roads, deliveries will be delayed and customer numbers will decrease.

Another negative impact, that the Commonwealth Games will have on locals is an increase in prices of goods and services. Not only will accommodation booking fees increase but also property prices will increase. The price increases will benefit owners, real estate agents, and investors but will negatively impact low-income families.
