Superheroes have been around in the world since as long as we can remember and have become popular day by day, and year by year. This is because people suddenly wanted escapism into a different world where the hero always triumphed and where distinctions between good and bad were easy to recognize. Is this modern concept much different than other stories we have grown up watching from an early age? I believe there are many similarities in stories of superheroes and comic many of us grew up reading and watching on Saturday mornings. Batman, a well-known super hero, fought crime in Gotham and was the “Dark Knight” that restored peace in his community. While Batman did not kill the criminals he was chasing after he did bring them to justice!

Heroes are your regular everyday people that work to the best of their abilities to make a difference in the world. All throughout my childhood, I had an extreme fascination with heroes, especially superheroes. Despite my complete distain of spiders, I wanted to shoot webs from my wrists and swing around the town all day long like Spider-Man. Now that I am older, it is incredibly hard for me to decide which I would rather be. They all have different motivations, different goals such as wanting you to have some feeling of comfort after a breakup, killing a monster with their bare hands, telling you that everything will get better after your boyfriend dies, or even defeating a dragon.

Back towards the beginning of American history we see superheroes arising for the first time in our culture. They were not necessarily able to fly or see through walls. However, they were still extraordinary people. Their stories were passed from father to son and the story grew with every telling. People like Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill were just two of the many tales of the time which spoke of men doing extraordinary things. These tales wouldn’t excite forever, though. As years go by our country and its people become less and less naïve and craved more. A giant man with a blue ox and an axe just could not suffice.
