This is my first year in college and I'm currently an exploratory. At first, I had an idea of what path I want to take after high school. I didn't know what exactly I wanted to achieve, but I undoubtedly want to do something in a medical field. Human's body is quite fascinating to me, but after spending time volunteering at the hospital, taking medical-related classes, and dissecting, I was unable to picture myself in the scrub, working breathlessly in the frantic hospital hallway. I am clueless about what I what to pursue in the future, but I believe that the eighteen years old me still have a lot of potentials and opportunities. This is why I'm in Santa Fe, I deem that community college would be a better option for me to slowly explore and finding out about what I want to proceed in the future. …show more content…
The majority of them were in my English classes and a few essays for other classes, which takes only a few days to compose. I mainly took standard English classes and one honors throughout high school. The grades I've received from my writings and also for the class are mainly B's and a few A's, nevertheless, I would like to receive an A in this class. At this point, you might be frowning and begin to question my previous statement. How could someone who only worked hard enough just to receive a B's will receive an A in this class? I am also not a very experienced writer as I've established earlier. I also fully understand that this course will be more challenging than any of my previous English classes, hence I am having an anxiety attack while writing this essay, nevertheless I truly want to become a better writer. A good writing skill is one of the keys to become successful. You will be required to be able to intellectually express yourself to
Trying to achieve your dreams and reach your full potential in a town that has little to no guidance for youth, especially African American men, is a daunting task. Too often, young men from my hometown are given limited options for their future. The education system made us feel as if we were only created to work in trade career fields, or sign our lives away for four to six years to the various branches of the United States Military. College was a luxury that many, including myself, thought would never be an option.
I attend Central Lakes College because it 's closer to home. Central Lakes College had a certain aspect on campus with a friendly environment that seemed to me that nurtured the growth in education. What I mean by nurture the growth in education is that Central Lakes College has programs and people that overview your academic career. Programs such as TRIO help with my generals that correlates to transferring to a four-year university. I wanted to go to a community college before a university because it fits my budget better than going straight to a university. Choosing Central Lakes College was an easy choice because the academic and sports programs fit my personality. An education service that really cares about you.
BTNY is the right program for my child because they will provide her an opportunity that I never had and that regular public schools would never be able to give. When I was younger, I lived in the Dominican Republic and my mom was not supportive of my education. But, I knew that I needed to be successful for my family. So, after middle school, I went to America to go to highschool and I went to Bronx Community College, the first person in my family to go there. But, I knew that the college I went to was a result of my highschool and middle school choice. I knew that I wanted children to fulfill a better life than I did. That’s why my older daughter and I went through a similar process to Breakthrough, in order to get her into a boarding
Theodore Roosevelt said, “A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad.” A college education will give me the knowledge needed to do what I would of hoped to achieve in the first place. In my case, college will prepare me by giving me the tools needed to become successful in the classroom. This will better my knowledge when applying myself in real life situations. I am attending college in hopes to better my education, reach my culinary goals and experience the college life.
Although 2010 was not by definition, a recession year, it certainly felt like one. The growth of the economy was stifled, unemployment was stagnated at a little less than ten percent and interest rates and inflation were at near depression levels by year’s end. The state of the economy unequivocally influences tax collections and budgets, which in turn determines the financial prosperity of higher education, especially in the public sector. The two main sources of revenue for public colleges and universities are state appropriations and tuition. Generally, as cuts to higher education appropriations occur, campuses respond by boosting tuitions even higher. Yet, regardless of the size of the budget cuts, college and university tuitions
In addition, graduating from high school was a hardship because my grades were not good. I did not take school seriously in 11th grade because I was being bullied. In the result of being bullied, when I got into the 12th grade I manage to not let things get to me anymore, get ready to graduate, and go to college. I gave up listening to what other people said, paid attention in class and, got my grades up so I could graduate. Although I did not choose any colleges to go to, I did have a plan to go to Community College of Philadelphia and start my college career.
The most recent challenges I’ve faced on my pathway to medical school include finding the time and resources to prepare for the MCAT while raising a family and attending school full-time. For as long I as I can remember I wanted to be a physician, but my only concern was how to get there. Growing up my parents emphasized the importance of finishing high school, but never expressed the importance of further my education. They knew my lifelong goals of wanting to be a doctor, but had little understanding of how to get me there. Shortly after graduation, I began (continued?) my educational journey, attending a local community college, then transferring to Arizona State University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences. It wasn’t until I transitioned to the university when I obtained a better understanding of what it truly takes to be a competitive medical school applicant. I began preparing myself for the medical school entrance exam, worked 10-12 hours in a genetics research laboratory, gained volunteer experience, and balanced a full-time course load. My plans were going smoothly and I felt as though I knew what it took to be
After four years of high school, there is only one goal I have in mind. That goal is to attend college. This is the next big step in my life. All the late nights I stayed up to complete school assignment was for this moment. All my hard work was has lead me to this point in life. College will open a whole new to me. A world where I can meet new people while working to improve my future. Why do I want to attend college though? Well I have three specific reasons for this decision.
I decided to go to college because I believe that education is an important part of life and that being educated has many advantages. Like many, one of the biggest reasons for deciding to attend college is to create a better future for myself. Being a first-generation college student my parents have implanted on me the importance of college education, as it is something they wish they would have done themselves. As the first of four children to go to college, I feel that it is my responsibility to be a good example to my younger siblings, and show them that it is important to have goals in life and to better yourself as a person through education. I understand that an university education may not be for everyone, but it felt like the right choice for me. What I hope to get out of college is a life-changing experience, not only to get a better education, but to find something I am truly passionate about. I think it is important when choosing a career or a major to find something your heart truly wants and not just a career that will make you able to afford expensive things. I also hope that somewhere along the path to graduation and adulthood, I find myself as a person and develop ideas, opinions, and to be able to approach the world with an
Community colleges used to be holes of despair consisting of two groups. The first was comprised of those who should little interest in learning much went to get some form of technical training. The first and second group often overlapped. The second group was built up of those whose family wasn’t financially well off enough to send them full term to a four-year university. If that wasn’t the truth, it was certainly the stigma surrounding the institutions. But in today’s climate, the community college has become an essential part of the education.
Noted authors, Brandon Chambers, is quoted saying, “If you are going to fear anything fear success. Think about what you are doing and when you succeed what life you will have.” There are several different reasons why I could stay home, work and not go to college; I could go to work every day and make more money for the house, it’s easier, and I would be less stressed. Now, on the other hand there are many reasons why I should go to school; such as further my education, make my family proud, and make myself proud. I am attending college for several different reasons. One reason is to further my education. I hate feeling like I don’t know something, I like being the person everyone comes to for information. Also, because I want to
I come from a low-income family with a household of eight people. I have my dad, my six siblings, and my mother passed away a few years ago. As a first-generation college student I felt so many emotions. I came from a high school that didn’t prepare me for college courses and that became a problem. What made it worse was that my dad didn’t go to college, so I couldn’t go to him for help. I was scared, depressed, unprepared, I was doing everything on my own. I also felt like I didn’t belong because I believed I wasn’t as smart as the other students or “rich” enough. When I first arrived at UC Davis, I was immediately intimidated. All of the other students seemed so educated and professional and I just compared myself to them without even getting to know them. Let me tell you, getting here wasn’t easy and I know it wasn’t easy for you either, so feel accomplished. You made it! Now that you’re in UC Davis, you will be expected to work hard. Times may get rough, but just remember that help is out there. Take advantage and don’t be afraid or ashamed to seek help.
During my senior year of high school, I made the decision to attend the local community college while my friends and classmates choose to attend state colleges and big universities. I wanted to attend a small college, because I came from a small town. It was also cheaper for me to attend a community college and commute from home to school. In High school I wondered if I was making the right decision. I had a lot of people tell me I should go to a state college or university instead of a community college, because I wouldn't get the "college experience." Now into my sophomore year of college at Northeast Community College, I believe choosing a community college was one of the best decisions I ever made. This college has provided me with a number
One of the high points of the class was consistently making high A’s. We wrote a variety of different types of papers, and my grade was always respectable. Succeeding in this class made me feel adequately prepared to write proper papers. Although I made impressive grades for the class, I was able to do so with only minimal effort. Therefore, I knew I could execute my papers better. The quality of my writing seemed to stay stagnant over the course of the year. This class would have been exponentially more beneficial had it challenged me to improve my writing, however it never did.
For starters, I have earned an A by making it a goal to improve on my writing skills. Which, I have done by learning different writing techniques also by staying focused, and striving towards academic success. I have excelled well throughout the whole course by making it a priority of being in class everyday in the end I was able to receive all of the writing skills that were taught and put them to use by being in class every day I was able to get all key information needed for writing a good essay. I made sure to arrange all other things in my life around
