I have been playing basketball ever since I can remember. My family has always been very athletic. My siblings played basketball as well as my parents. My grandma told me a story about how I used to shoot a little basketball into a 10 foot hoop and I would make it. I play in the point guard position. I work very hard at what I do so that makes me advance in my skill for the sport. When I really started to realize I had a passion for it was in 6th grade. We had a lot of new people therefore our team didn't blend great. But even with my team being the way it was I still put everything that I had into it. Two things at the end of the season happened to me that made me realized that if I worked at it I could do great things. One parent on the
I tried to play basketball, and i was really bad at playing because i had played softball all of my life i have never played anything else other than softball. My Dad tried to help me practise basketball but he didn’t know how to play either because he only played baseball. I was not any good at it, and i hated it because it was so hard to play and every time my coach would yell at me i didn’t know why because he never explained to me what i was doing wrong. I did want to give up because i hated it and i could not play at all and our team never won a game. I will try knew things out in the future and i hope that i will succeed in what i want to do because i am a person who sets their mind to things and gets them done even if it takes me my
As a child, I was taught that with hard work and determination I could achieve anything. Unfortunately, this is a myth, and limitations are a part of being human. I was forced to accept this reality during my junior year of high school. Ever since I was a little girl, I looked forward to playing varsity basketball on the orange and black court at Dalton High School. Finally, during my third year of high school, I was given the chance to start as point guard on the girls’ varsity basketball team. Suddenly, my dream turned into a nightmare, and I was sitting on the bench watching other girls play the game I loved. Gretchen Wald, a teammate, was experiencing the same problem. Luckily, she remained by my side throughout the experience. Together,
As an individual I love staying active, socializing with others, being dependable, and keeping busy. Playing Basketball for Flour Bluff ISD, since the seventh grade, has granted me the opportunity to achieve all of these goals. For some peculiar reason I have consistently felt that I lacked experience of which my peers had, and that I would never be able to acquire it. Soon after I started playing I became intimidated of my fellow teammates and worried about the time I felt I lost, due to beginning so late in my childhood. Without fail, I always feel a sense of accomplishment after making it through tryouts every year and as I approach my final season, it has become clear just how much of my life was devoted to Basketball, that I truly love it and how I am thankful to be a part of something much more than just a team.
To begin with, I am pretty good at my free throws and 3-pointers. Like today at Knock-out during indoor recess, I got Hunter Clay out with my 3-pointer mad dog skillzzzz! I have been playing basketball since April 2017 and I have loved it ever since. My older cousin taught me how to play and I wasn’t really the best before. I still love to play even if I don’t have a basketball hoop at my house because of our cars and how my parents say they are “Too expensive to risk a scratch or dent on”.
I was in ninth grade when I started playing basketball. I had little experience in the sport but then I decided to go to my school’s freshman tryouts. Little did I know, the school basically had most of their roster chosen already because they have all been playing since elementary school, and they had been doing team workouts for a month before tryouts. That didn’t stop me from playing though.
Throughout my high school career, I have challenged the pervasive idea that athletics come first in a student’s life during high school. In my community, football is seen as the pinnacle of a student’s senior year if they play. In my class, many people prefer to blow off homework assignments in favor of going to sleep after practice. However, my actions clearly display that I have challenged this standard and have placed priority on being a STUDENT-athlete. My football and wrestling seasons over the past four years have encompassed many long, exhausting practices and competitions. I, like every individual participant, was faced with the choice to go home afterwards and rest, or to study and strive to further their education. As I am
I had never broken a bone in my body, never had a concussion, and never even had a significant black eye, but after that cold October evening on a Saturday night, everything changed.
Ever since I was young, I was always taught that sports was always a team effort. You needed to be to trust your teammates whether you’re on or off the field or court. My mother played high school basketball and she described to me how crazy it was in her youth. “Looking back on it, I realized how crazy it was that we took the game so serious instead of just having fun with my friends. I grew up very poor and basketball was my only escape to the reality of the ghetto I resided in.
However, starting from the age of seven, I have been participating in skills and drills camps and leagues for basketball. I had tried playing soccer, tennis, and softball, however the only sport I truly excelled in was basketball. When fourth grade came along I started playing on my very first basketball team. As the games started, I
On a bright sunny Saturday afternoon, the sun was pounding, and Anthony decided to go outside to play basketball. Besides it being ninety degrees out he practiced like he was Michael Jordan. The sound of the ball swishing is like heaven to him. With a big, bright smile on his face he looks at the rim, and is set up ready to take a free throw. He gets in position, shoots, and makes it! He looked around him to see that his neighbor was having trouble with her groceries. Her two kids were screaming, and hanging on her like she was a playground. He notices she was on the phone, and she was yelling at them, so he ran over.
I wanted to join the Ramily because of the positive experience of community in the classes I felt when I shadowed. I think I can contribute to the community by being myself. I can contribute by joining the basketball team, joining clubs, and volunteering. I wish to attend Central Catholic because of the sports, academics, and welcoming community.
Each person experiences something in his or her life that alters the way he or she feels towards a certain situation. For me, basketball has drastically influenced the decisions I make in life. It has taught me to be a better athlete and a better person. Basketball has taught me to express myself in many ways that nothing else ever could.
I came to the important realization that I have a love for basketball. Why this is important is because if I focus really hard, practice, and put in all the work, I can make it far in basketball. I play in an AAU league called friars club with some other kids from Ross. In the league, there are scouts that come to watch the games and see how good you are. We stayed after our game to watch the older kids play and the channel 5 news came and we made it on tv! How the league works is, we went to the Friars Gym in downtown Cincinnati to try out for two nights back in August, then the second night they
There was a basketball game after school. My sister was playing, so I kinda had to stay after school. We were doing math and I whispered to Joselin “ Are you staying for the game?”
When I was eight years old I was all about basketball. I would dribble in the house and my Mom would usually yell something like “Go outside” or something like that. I would go and play outside, and anywhere I could. I just loved basketball. I was never on a team though. The most competitive I ever got was playing at recess. One year I realized that one of my best friend’s parents were starting a basketball team. I went to my parents and said “ Can I please go and play on that team?” They said it was fine. We were a pretty good team and I ended up playing with them until about 6th grade when my injury happened.
