A collateral interview was conducted with Ms. Deamatie Saunders, maternal grandmother.
Ms. Deamatie reported when the parents became married, they stayed with her for about a year. The older child Kiran was born. She indicated that the father was working as a painter. Both parents agreed for the father to care for the baby, while she was working. The mother was pregnant and having difficulty breathing.
She became aware of the difficulties between the parents when her daughter called her. Ms. Saunders reported that her daughter was teaching and became pregnant and needed bed rest. There was a lot of pressure for her to go to work.

Her daughter stated that the father was pressuring her to go back to school to teach.
Ms. Deamatie reported there seemed to be problems in the marriage. She stated that her daughter said that Mr. Thompson removed her daughter’s name off the bank account.
The grandmother perceived Mr. Thompson to be insensitive to the children. She indicated that there were times he would let the child cry.
She indicated that Wyatt recently blurted out that “his dad scares him”. She indicated that she did not press it. The grandmother stated that the father communicates in an “abrupt way”.
Ms. Deamatie stated that her daughter reported that the father was videotaping her for four years.
The grandmother reported that Wyatt stated on one occasion, that his father was not nice to his mother.
On another occasion, the maternal grandmother stated that she told by the mouther that she had been locked out of the apartment. She indicated that the mother was crying “hysterically”. Mr. Thompson was inside of the apartment with the paternal grandparents.
The grandmother reported that the father uses “strong language” and uses it against the mother.
Her daughter has said she does not want
When she does speak to others, her father is skeptical of what she has said. This is evident on their bus ride to Bend when she engages in a harmless conversation with the women sitting next to her. Based on the story, “Charles”, Shirley Jackson makes it perceptible that the character, Charles, is Laurie. The author effectively makes it clear to any reader that Charles is Laurie. The obvious statements in this story make the critics correct because Laurie is being just as rude to his father as he is to the other kids. The mother always changed the subject when Laurie was rude to his father; many opinions are stated that his father was rude to him at home and he carried it from home to school. Many of the stories that Laurie told were hinting to the parents that he was Charles. The parents thought that Charles was giving Laurie a bad influence, but the parents were gullible and they didn`t find out that Charles was Laurie until the end
With his wishes caused rebellion against his parent’s rules. At age 13 was when he began to experiment with smoking marijuana and vandalizing property using spray paint and breaking things abandoned facilities.
