The Cold War was a very important time in the history of the United States. It was a war between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R or otherwise known as the Soviet Union. This was was a fight between capitalism and communism. There were many deaths in crises that were caused by the Cold War. One thing that was changed was Hollywood started to produce anticommunist movies and also started searching for communistic people. The communists started to get fired, blacklisted, and deprived of their civil rights all because they were communists. Even though most Americans tried the best they could to show the Soviet Union they were not scared, many of them were terrified. Americans during that time lived everyday in the fear of that at anytime the U.S.S.R. could drop a nuclear bomb on the U.S.. These fears must have altered everyday thought and activities because they were in constant fear. I can imagine that any unsuspected loud noise would terrify Americans during that time. But even though most of the changes were bad some good things appeared during the Cold War, mainly less discrimination against blacks. President Harry Truman was one of the main people that was looking for this new beginning. Laws were passed banning discrimination and they also began to start fair employment. The Cold War was very important in the change of social policies which resulted in …show more content…
The Soviet Union then tried to keep with the Americans to grow their military but ended going broke because of it which then ended the Cold War because the Soviet Union pretty much disintegrated. Another important factor the the development of the U.S. economy was when President Ronald Reagan cut taxes and deregulation or to remove taxes. I think the effect the war had on economic areas was one of the main areas that got affected the most. Another area that was greatly affected by the Cold War was the political area. Unlike the other areas I believe that this area mostly have good things happen to it. The Cold War really brought our country together which showed how much we were together. This was very good for the U.S. because it allowed us to make better decision together and also improve the economy. The only thing that was bad about the new political changes was how the Communists were treated so badly during the Cold War. Other then that most good things came from the new political changes. One of the most important changes was how the U.S. made new friendships with countries because of this War. I think overall
In comparison to during WWII, the cold war played a major part in changing the basics of the economy and the government. The economy boomed due to the baby boom and the change in transportation in society. The government of the cold war was affected by events such as the civil rights movement and the red scare. The economy in WWII was solely booming due to the war, but during the cold war, it was pushed by poth post war industry and other reasons.
Several countries were affected by the Cold War. One example is Europe. Europe was split between the East and the West. Western europe was mainly communist countries and the other side was non-communist countries (Doc. 1). Another example of how the Cold War affected different places around the world is Hungary. Their leader was pushed out of office by the U.S.S.R.
The Cold War was a major event that occurred after WW2, mainly because of communism, and the USSR conflicts. The US and USSR conflicts were major impacts of the Cold War. “Image of the US and prevent the further spread of communism” (Page 5). “Soviets feared the Marshall Plan would spread to the US” (Page 5). The US was trying to prevent further spread of communism from the Soviet Union.
The policies of the United States such as the Cold War at Home affected the Cold War in many different ways. It led to another Red scare, search for spies, and nuclear fear.
A man named Joe McCarthy would hunt/search for communist supporters in the government and military. 6)During the Cold War, the US economy was linked to the broader global economy. What caused this to happen was that US businesses would expand into the global region. Because this action took place, a period of success took place that would change the US.
After World War two, the west and the Soviets brought up tensions between each other. Countries such as Great Britain, the United States, Canada, France and others practiced a capitalist economy. Capitalism is a free market ideal in which the government has as little intervention to its people as possible. On the other hand, the Soviets practiced a Communist government. Communism is a form of socialism that has its government get involved in everyone’s daily life. This meant that the government determined how much and what kinds of goods would be produced.
The cold war has caused many effects to many different countries. Such as Europe, Asia, and Latin America. There has been some good changes and there have been some bad changes.
Because of the sheer size of these pacts they would lead to negative and destructive conflicts worldwide such as the Vietnam and Korean Wars. While cultural effects of the Cold War were primarily domestic, political battles between the Soviet Union and the US were mostly fought on an international stage. Politically speaking, the US and Soviet Union were polar opposites at the end of WWII.
America’s culture was greatly impacted. The movie and tv industry were spreading propaganda against communism. Education was being infiltrated by propaganda because it was included in textbooks and educational videos. Children were also being infiltrated by propaganda because the U.S. was including it on things that were mostly used by children. Also, artists started using modernist techniques to show that it was better than “soviet realism”. They also used it for propaganda. The fashion industry was also greatly impacted. Trends constantly changed. Padded shoulders and fuller clothes alike became the “new look” for women. Women’s underwear also changed. It started to be able to shape their bodies well and it later evolved into looser and more comfortable pieces. Lastly, the music industry was also impacted because the U.S. used it, specifically jazz music, to spread propaganda about their country and to fight the Soviets. They used it as a “secret weapon”. Its safe to say that the United States went through many ups and downs both during and after the Cold
The Cold War, while not a lethal time, was possibly the most dangerous time in American History. The United States went through three different presidents during the Cold War. Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, and Kennedy all dealt with the containment of communism in different ways, with Truman and Kennedy looking for slower and more methodical approaches, and Eisenhower, being a war hero, aiming to maximize the use of our military. The Cold War could have easily become WWIII, and if it had, we probably would not be a country today. The Cold War also pushed us to further develop our technology, helping us become the highly advanced America we are today. According to Ayers’s book, The Cold War was a time when

The Cold War took a lot of affect on the United States Domestic Policy and American society. Domestic Policies were changed due to the world affairs, and the American society had a dramatic change from the war. The United States Government became extra secure and protected. Many new political cartoons were created from the fear of Communists and other big events and things that were happening during this time period. War was the leading problem in the US during this time period. Many citizens became upset and protested. Also, many American citizens were scared because they heard many people talking about the war,and what was happening and took as many measures on safety as they possibly knew and could. Later, through science, we have learned that many of their tactics when it came to protecting themselves would not even have worked. The United States spend a lot of extra money during this time period to keep up with the war. The Cold War was a long stalemate between two world Superpowers. The United States and the Soviet Union. This war was a struggle between Democracy and Communism. In addition, the Cold War was massively impacted because of NATO. In fact, NATO was one of the reasons that the Cold War has started, because the Soviet Union wouldn’t remove their troops from Europe, and France, the USA, and the UK allied with 8 other countries to make the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, aka NATO. In retaliation, the Soviet Union created the Warsaw Pact, which in turn, made the US start stockpiling nuclear arms in case of a war, and that made the Soviets do
The Cold War dominated the globe for over forty years. Countries fell into revolutions and look towards communism or capitalism as a saving grace. The United States of America and the Soviet Union were on the verge of World War three and a massive nuclear fallout. Diplomacy had to intervene for the preservation of the world. It is rather berserk that two countries controlled the future of human kind. There are many specific events that highlighted the Cold War. Out of many events, The Korean War, the capture and exchange of Soviet spy Rudolf Abel for American Pilot, Francis Gary Powers, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the elimination of the Berlin Wall stood out as climactic Cold War events.
