Case Managers have a challenging job, often dealing with patients, community agencies and facilitating their hospital discharge to the next level of care. They collaborate and communicate with the entire healthcare team and mostly with the patient during the hospitalization process. They act as support for all stakeholders to achieve positive patient outcomes. In this paper, I will be interviewing Ian Mopas, who is a Patient Care Coordinator at Kaiser Permanente in Redwood City about his education, work training, goals, and objectives as a Care Coordinator, and his responsibilities in his organization.

To begin, the first intervention will focus on reducing the burn out and absenteeism, employing three different interventions. The first intervention is to hire more staff, including per diem and part time employees, to reduce the caseload of the existing clinicians. This will be measured by increasing staff by 20 percent. A second intervention, to address burnout, is to increase supervision, as measured by reducing the ratio of supervisee’s to supervisors to three to one. The third intervention is to create staff process groups, where counselors can discuss concerns, general information, and even their cases. With the creation of this group, CII will have greater transparency and communication among staff and Dr. Wachtel. It is clear that the influx of clients has caused strain on the staff as they are taking on many more cases and are becoming overwhelmed. The purpose of these interventions is to increase support for the staff in a variety of ways so that everyone is able to provide quality services.

The purpose of this paper is to describe the characteristics and roles of me as a counselor and the counselor’s disposition that I would like to bring as I start working in the field. The roles I will take as a counselor when working within community and private mental health system. I will also refer to the counselor dispositions to incorporate into counseling relationship and how the disposition will help me and my client. Clinical supervision is significant to counseling because of the crucial role it plays in the process with regards to providing emotional support and extra education to counselors receiving supervision. The significance of this concept to counseling is also attributed to its use in enhancing the professional performance and quality of work of counselors through effective monitoring and evaluation. This is basically because the clinical supervision process involves the counselor’s personal reflection regarding his/her thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, which result in improved self-understanding and self-knowledge.

New director was hired in a clinical unit. New director was described as really aggressive and not approachable by any staff member. She made a lot of changes in the unit without any explanation. Since she became the clinical director, lots of staff was hired and some were new grad. The clinical intern met with Xavier, in the presence of the case manager, to provide him with an individual counseling session. The clinical intern initiated the individual counseling session by asking Xavier how he was doing. Xavier stated that he was doing okay. It is in the interest of the counselor to present with knowledge and a proper understanding of the job he/she has signed on to perform. In doing so, he/she will promote social emotional, career, relational and professional relationships. This will be done by utilizing the practices and theories of counseling to propel students, teachers, and administrators forward. The counselor is the common denominator, so he must keep abreast of all new policies and techniques constructed to engage the students, and professionals ensuring that he is a help and not a hindrance.
