I found this article very interesting. It is rare that I really think about the life of professional classical musician and what non-musical skills their field requires. I definitely see truth in Jones' point on the decline of symphony orchestra. Most of my generation is pretty uninterested in classical music; even I have to admit that I find a good amount of it pretty boring. Whenever my parents have taken me to classical performances, there has been very few other children there and those who are seem bored. Obviously, with the decrease of interest in classical music comes less symphonic performances. This means that the people attempting to go into this field really need to be prepared as it becomes increasingly difficult to find positions
The article by Shuler was about the new standards for music educators. It goes over how standards have changed since 1994. The article states the 11 music standards and explains what they mean. I found the article interesting and there were many interesting points that caught my eye. One was how the standards have changed based on the availability to technology and the increased emphasis on college readiness. This is something that I never thought of. Many know how much technology has changed but I never thought of it changing teaching standards. I also liked how it talked about teaching students to think they are musicians. This can help them learn just like in all the other classes, such as science. The last topic that I thought was interesting
Only one man could claim the title as probably the greatest composer in American history for writing so many unforgettable works: Aaron Copland. He lived a life inspired by many things as well as inspiring people all across the nation, and it really led to the opposite of being drawn into himself, as he described in the quote above. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 14 in 1900. He was the youngest of five children to Sarah and Harris Copland. A musical spark came out in Copland already at the age of 11 as he began piano lessons with his sister. His musical talents
Although, in the year 2018, people rarely ever stop to listen to classical music, even more contemporary classical music. Too often people cling to the past,
With means to express oneself, helps one overcome the difficulties of life. This approach represents the entire nature of the hip hop culture, especially when dealing with social justice issues. Today, the hip hop culture association revolves around raps (lyrics) and the rappers which reflect how consumers receive messages about social justice issues. Unlike breaking and graffiti, the music/lyrics penetrate society more. However, for this analysis, the focus will rely on a visual element with a connection to hip hop music. Even though a music video would make sense as a visual means of expression, this analysis has more interest in the cover art that goes with a hip hop album. Also, this focus will lead to the question of how important is art
Through weekly private lessons, chamber, wind, and orchestra ensemble playing, and assiduous independent practice, I have improved immensely as a trombonist and musician. My work paid off when I was accepted into Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute. At this nationally competitive program, I spent six weeks with talented, dedicated students while rubbing shoulders with the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO). I had never heard elite musicians live before the BSO. Their concerts brought tears to my eyes and my drive to make music at the highest level grew. After receiving instruction from these musicians and hearing their own performances, I refined my technique and made more tasteful musical decisions.
Modern society is becoming alienated from the works of classical composers. The appreciation for classical music is dwindling, and this is a disturbing problem. People are forgetting the fathers of music; without their inventions and subsequent success there would be no contemporary music.
Composers rely heavily on ritornello form. More freedom in the form although a sinfonia proper is later developed.
Mainly homophonic, with a long held note on “for the mouth” in the sopranos, while the other
1. How did you discover classical music and opera? 2. How has your experience in the opera and classical music profession been? 3.
After reading Chapter two, I learn more than what I expected about the foundation of music. This chapter taught me a lot specially the musical texture during Middle Ages and Renaissance; during Middle Ages the music texture was monophonic and sacred, therefore it was necessary to keep it calm and sacred and musicians were considered a member of low class status. En example of this is the Gregorian chants which were sung in Latin and by soloist and later on two or more textures. Another important aspect I learned, during the Renaissance period the church didn’t have much influence over music and the music was inclined toward the courts. This allowed composers and musician to enjoy a higher status and higher pay than ever before.
The classical music period extends from 1740 to 1810, which includes the music of Haydn, Mozart, and the first period of Beethoven. The classical period of music combined harmony, melody, rhythm, and orchestration more effectively than earlier periods of music. With the natural evolution of music slowly changing with the culture, the baroque era had ended. That era had left a structure, articulation and periodic phrasing of music which would shape classical music.
If you were like me, when someone mentioned classical music or music for the heroic era you knew very little to nothing about the subject. The only thing you knew was that it was music from a long time ago and that Beethoven was the only artist you could name. So, let me enlighten you on what classical music is and the era it comes from. The term classical is something that has a wide and long-lasting appeal. In music, when a piece was written from between about 1750 to 1825 it was considered classical or from the Baroque era. The two most important things in music from this period were order and balance. After more than 250 years the classical age type of music is still around and very popular. Beethoven 's style came to
Although the majority of the world believes in an afterlife, some individuals believe that life after death just doesn 't exist. The core group of people that don 't have that belief, are both Materialists and Atheists. Materialists believe in the fact that everything and anything in the world is made up of matter. They feel that there is no unmaterialistic reality on Earth and that that serves to prove that there is no afterlife. Atheists are generally skeptical about any existence of an afterlife also (Religious Tolerance). They live their life without any belief in God or anything that pertains to him. Atheists theorize that the universe was created by the “Big Bang Theory”, and that humans arose from the theory of evolution. With
The paradox that modernity appeared as a threat to Christianity which leads to modern findings of social, political, and spiritual aspects that plays apart of improving Christianity’s overall structure that is spread across the world of Western history. However, the challenges modernity had on Christians led to a test of dignity and focus that was established by their ancestors of Christianity. As the concept of modernity progressed, it has question the only existence that man cannot touch but has gave a better understanding of one’s own conscious. Modernity and Christianity has been proven compatible due to recent findings of existence in our own world and psychology, but can be argued over religion authority. As both protestant and catholic
The beautiful sound of piano music has captured the hearts of people since the early eighteenth century. Since then, many musicians have dedicated their lives to this instrument. Some players even play piano so well that it may seem that this instrument is easy to play. However, to be able to play the piano well isn’t easy; it takes a lot of skill. To become a good piano player, one must love music very much, have good finger techniques, and body flexibility.
