Civil War Significance

The United States has been involved in a lot of wars and battles throughout the past. The Civil War was one of the most significant moments in the history of the United States of America. The Civil War took place between the North and South of the United States of America following the Confederacy seceding from the Union after Abraham Lincoln’s presidency and fought to maintain their independence. The war started off as a war regarding the rights of the different states. As the war progressed, it ended up turning into a war about freedom, slaves, white Northerns rioting against the draft and black Americans, Union troops, and much more.

The American Civil War was a war against the North and the South during the 1860’s. The Southern removed themselves from the Union. The U.S didn’t allow states to be removed from the Union. The North also wanted to get rid of Slavery but the South wanted African American slaves to help them and work for them. The War started when the army in the South attacked a military base in South Carolina. The American Civil War was the first war that killed thousands of Americans in history. During the Civil War thousands of Americans soldiers died. United States had the most slaves in the world, but after the Civil War slaves weren’t allowed anymore.

The union and the confederacy had opposing views on slavery which ultimately caused the war. The Union’s opinion about slavey was that it was unjust and inhumane, while the confederacy viewed it as a way to help the economy because by having slaves, they didn’t

The South wanted slaves to help run there farming plantations. Southern slave owners did not want their way of life threatened or changed, life had been the same for them for generations. Those Americans from the North were considered more progressive and had more influence from other cultures which helped open their eyes to the horrors of slavery. But for many of the men, going to war was a chance to escape boredom and some came because it was the right thing to do (p. 28).

There are also still differences of opinion as to the true reason for this war. This being said, it could be easily assumed that slavery was the key issue. But as we all know, the emancipation proclamation was not signed until after the war began, which showed that freeing slaves wasn’t the priority.

The American Civil War, the most terrifying and horrific war fought in America. In the 1860 presidential election Republicans were led by Abraham Lincoln who did not support slavery at all. even though he had slaves, he did not like it and he opposed the expansion of slavery in the US territories. The problem was that the seven slave states with cotton-based economics needed their slaves to keep their economy up and running, so they formed the Confederacy. These first 7 states to secede had a 48.8% population of slaves. President James Buchanan and the Republicans rejected secession as illegal. The remaining 8 slave states rejected the call for secession. A peace conference was arranged but failed to find a compromise and both sides prepared for war. The South was very angry with the north because they felt as if they were taking away their state rights, The Southern Position that citizens of every states did have the right to take their property anywhere in the U.S. and not have it taken away. Specifically their slaves. But Northerners rejected this right because it would violate the right of a free state. This did not make the South happy, and for the North taking away their rights and trying to end slavery, the Confederate was formed and this is what started the deadly war.

The civil war is an important event in the history of the United States. It began on April 12, 1861, when Confederate General opened fire on Fort Sumter, South Carolina, and lasted until May 26,1865, when the last Confederate army surrendered . All aspects of the war have been a topic of concern to the academic community, especially in the United States. In my opinion, the civil war not only important for American, but also important for the world. Here I will show you the main causes of the Civil War.

The number one question that is never completely understood about the Civil War is what caused the war. There were multiple events that led to the groundbreaking, bloody, and political war.
