     Christianity and Islam are two of the fastest growing religions, and they both have a lot in common. In this essay I will explain their differences and similarities, their messages, how they treat their believers and other religions, their historical relationship, and other topics along these lines.

Christianity and Islam are the two biggest religions that are present in the world today, with close to four billion followers combined. While Christianity and Islam actually have a lot more in common than most people think, there are still many differences to them. First, let’s start with the similarities between the two. Both religions believe that in one way or another, Jesus will return to Earth in the final days of the world to have a judgement day, in which essentially will determine if you go to heaven/paradise or hell, as both accept the fact that there is life after death, just different views of what exactly they think that life is. In addition, both Christianity and Islam believe in prophets, they both say that God sent prophets such as Moses, Noah, Abraham, and others. Another point is that both religions believe in the sovereignty of God. In both Christianity and Islam, God itself is the highest power there is, he is the sole creator of everything and that the world that we live in is exclusively dependent on him and him only. One of the last similarities I’d like to note, and perhaps maybe the most important to some, is that both religions believe that there is just one supreme God over everything.

As Christians we all have a solid understanding on the history and worldview of our religion however; we need to review how this compares to the worldview of Islam. This is very important if one is potentially going to work in a place where the primary culture is Muslim. In Christianity the scripture has taught us the our faith was first created from Judaism with our belief of the foundation of Jesus Christ his death and resurrection. One main difference is as Christians we know there is just one God however; we know that God is the Father, the son and the holy spirit. The Islam faith believes that God is just one with Allah, Yahweh and God all being one but believe that Jesus Christ was a prophet but not the son of God (Mohamad, 1997). There is also the difference in the worldview of sin as Christians we believe in the first sin that was created by Adam and Eve. Islam faith views that sins committed by others would not be something that God would punish them for but only sins are impacted by only those who actually commit the sin. In the Qur’an the text states “No person earns any sin except against himself only, and no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another” (Qur’an 6:164). The belief of salvation is also a very different worldview between both religions. Despite their historical and traditional connection, they both have a lot of doctrinal differences, which is why I interviewed my friend Arif to understand more about the religion of Islam and their beliefs, customs and traditions. He declared that among the beliefs are believing in one God, or Allah, and his prophet; praying five times a day; giving charity; fasting in the month of Ramadan; and performing pilgrimage when one can. Treat everyone with kindness no matter how different they are from you,” and that is something every human being should agree with this regardless of being Muslim or not.
