Most people would agree that Christian Dior is one of the most successful fashion designers of all time, but the majority do not know how much work was put into the apparel and how much Dior cared about it and the team that helped him become so successful. In his autobiography, Dior by Dior, the dressmaker shows that even in the heart of his success he was able to stay loving, thoughtful, and passionate about all of the dresses that he designed throughout his career. (appeal or rhetorical devices that contribute to this message need to be mentioned in thesis—focus of the paper is language) Christian Dior was interested in the arts from a young age but it was not until later in his life when he joined the fashion industry and discovered his passion for making clothes. “I must admit that clothes are my whole life. Ultimately everything I know, see, or hear, every part of …show more content…
“They are all my children, and I love them equally as one loves one’s children,” (112) Dior replied when asked which dress was his favorite. The designer loved all of his pieces so much that he cared about them and protected them like they were his children. Christian Dior also showed how much he loves the people he works with when he said, “If one of my mannequins is getting married or expecting a baby, the cabine is transferred into a workshop. Layette or trousseau, everyone wants to participate in a family event (in the sense that a couture house is a family.)” (130) Everyone who worked in the fashion house, including Dior, cared about and loved each other like family. Over the course of the book, Dior showed that was a very caring person and that he loved both the clothes he made and the people he worked with like

“But skilled and loyal assistants on other polar ventures, however famous the expedition and it’d leader, are seldom remembered and really celebrate.” (pg 3)
On page 147 of Slouching Towards Bethlehem, there is a passage that I think describes a solution to the problem of sympathy versus empathy. The passage basically states that if we see the value in ourselves, we will be able to discriminate, to love, and to remain indifferent toward others. However, if we do not come to this realization, we will hate those who cannot give to us and will only help others to improve our own image. I agree with the idea that we must come to some realization of who we are in order to reach out and help others for the sake of the good in it. I agree with this because if we do not understand who we are or how we fit into the world, then we will be insecure. This will cause us to seek ways to sure ourselves up and
Week three’s devotional really touched me. Many people think they can do everything on their own, that they do not need God in their life. I feel that we all need God to help us get through the challenges in our lives, so we can grow and learn from those challenges. John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you” (NASB). John 14:26 supports my feelings when it comes to needing God, as He will teach us.
Conrad’s approach towards the way she designs was something that really came in handy within the past few months. During her pregnancy carrying her first child. She couldn’t find any maternity clothes that she liked. So, she designed a maternity line with clothes that she did like, and hoped that others would as well. After giving birth to her son, she has had clothing
Fashion is everything to society and the media. The fashion industry has transformed into a necessity in the life of people. Everyone wants to look good, feel fabulous and feel as if we belong with everyone else. The envy and desire to wear certain things and look a certain way all come, from wearing the latest fashion handbags, accessories, dresses, shoes, and the list goes on. But, when is considering fashion into an individual’s life going too far to the extreme? Many do not consider the whereabouts of fashion materials and how the environment is affected by the mere existence of certain garments. Some may believe these objects grow on trees. But that is clearly not the case. Even though it would be nice. The fashion industry as a

Then care about her for who she truly is. Then he comes up with a plan to help make the Seamstress acceptable for him he says, “With these books, I shall transform the Little Seamstress. She’ll never be a simple mountain girl again.” (100) Well generally cares about the seamstress he simply does what he thinks is right for her.
Born in 1905, Christian Dior, a fashion designer, became a fashion icon in the early 1940s. Before becoming a fashion icon, however, he initially was interested in art and architect. In 1928, after graduating college, he opened his own Art Boutique that displayed works from Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, and Max Jacob. Unfortunately, in 1931, he had to close his boutique after his mom and brother died. Shortly after, he became a design assistant by Paris couturier Robert Piguet and in 1940, after the WWII, he was hired by couturier Lucien Lelong. (Christian Dior) In 1947, he launched his new look and by 1957; Dior’s fashion had global sales of $22 million and net profit of $117, 440. After the war, Dior had almost single-handedly restored the international reputation of Parisian haute couture.(Harvard Business Publishing) On October 23, 1957, the tragedy of a third heart attack, killed Christian Dior at the age of 52 while on vacation in Montecatini, Italy. The fashion industry is rapidly growing and constantly generating new fashion trends almost weekly. Fashion for some may seem ridiculous and unnecessary; but fashion is not just a meaningless usage of article of clothing or farcical materials sew together for coverage. There is more to fashion than meets the eyes, fashion is precious and significant. It is a reflection of self-image, it speak the ream about who we are and how we review ourselves. Not only is fashion the reflection of self-image but also the reflection of our history as Coco Channel have said, “Fashion is not something that exist in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Fashion

Paul Poiret was born on April 20th, 1879 in Paris, France. His contributions to twentieth-century fashion has earned him the title in many people’s eyes as the “King of Fashion”, because he established the principle of modern dress and created the blueprint of the modern fashion industry. Poiret’s designs and ideas led the direction of modern design history. He was born into a working class family and his natural charisma eventually gained him entry into some of the most exclusive ateliers of the Belle Époque. Jacques Doucet, one of the capital’s most prominent couturiers, hired him after seeing promising sketches he had sold to other dressmakers. Furthermore, he was hired by the House of Worth and was put to work to create less
Elie Saab developed an interest on fashion starting from early ages. Built his first atelier only at the age of 18. His passion for fashion and haute couture grew in the following years and has dedicated himself to his brand from design to brand and customer communications .According to him :“Couture was a creative engine for the entire brand, a marketing tool for foundation of an image on a profound long term level.”
On February 11, 2010 the fashion world experienced a large and unexpected loss. After becoming one of the world’s most influential designers, Alexander McQueen ended his life at the age of forty (Horyn 1). McQueen was in a class by himself; he was always innovative and pushed the limits of fashion. His line will end within the next few months, and he will become just a memory to the fashion world. His image will fade into obscurity until in the next twenty or so years someone on a red carpet will show up wearing vintage McQueen. Critics will praise them for resurrecting the designer’s name, but the loss is permanent. Alexander McQueen will never come back.
“Fashion, as noted above, is a product of class distinction and operates like a number of other forms, honor especially, the double function of which consists in revolving within a given circle and at the same time emphasizing it as separate from others. Just as the frame of a picture characterizes the work of art inwardly as a coherent, homogeneous, independent entity and at the same outwardly severs all direct relations with the surrounding space, just as the uniform energy of such forms cannot
Peter McNeil and Giorgio Riello have pointed out ''Luxury—today as in the past—plays with a mixture of feelings and emotions''. (2016, p.5). At anytime luxury embraced human feelings as a mental needs to be expressing out, it is a need of being invidual. Is luxury self-defining, of course it is. It is always has been a concept through out the history. The free expression of invidualism can contribute to shaping the modern democratic society (Lipovetsky, 2002, p.101). How function the contemporary fashion industry versus luxury fashion. What is the future for young creatives if in the field is too many luxury. For the mid of 19th and 20th luxury were honorable feasts, noble rituals, hunters, cruises, pompous balls and magnificent palaces are the heritage of past generations. Moreover, own a Haute Couture gown, wearing Cartier bracelet walking on Manolo Blahnik are ladies'
