For this week’s discussion forum, I have decided to utilize these five articles to assist me in addressing my problem statement. Main concern is the about the safety and efficacy of childhood vaccine. This is a complex issue, because there are concerns on both sides of the argument. Due to the recent rise in the incidence of autism spectrum disorder, parents are refusing to vaccine their children, because they feel that it is the cause of their children being diagnosed with autism. On the other hand, there are known health benefits of vaccines in preventing childhood diseases or death. Moreover, there is a growing trend of diseases that were once controlled or eradicated as a result of mass vaccinations are reemerging.
So, should we continue
Almost everyone has heard of the benefits and dangers of childhood vaccines. Parents are especially eager to do what is best for their child to protect him or her. Some people have different opinions on what the best specifically entails when it comes to childhood vaccines. Vaccinations are a controversial discussion as parents question whether it should be mandatory or optional when they feel the cons outweigh the pros. The government says it is the right thing to do for parents and their families to remain safe from illnesses and diseases. However, there have been opinions of opposition voiced by parents and health
Should we be giving our children vaccines? Giving our children vaccines have many pros and cons. But should we really rely on vaccines that we don´t need? I will be fighting for the non-use of a vaccine for children. If we get vaccines every year they can possibly cause serious or fatal side effects. They also contain many harmful ingredients that they don´t want us to know about. The government should not intervene in personal medical choices.
Death by diseases that can be prevented with the use of childhood vaccinations is becoming more prominent in our society today. With infant and toddler vaccinations being around for centuries this should not be so prominent in today’s society. Childhood vaccinations should be a necessity for all children because they not only protect the child that receives the vaccination but also the children that can’t receive the vaccination for heath and age restrictions. Throughout my research I have found these five articles to be the most helpful to prove my argument in my research paper, “Vaccination greatly reduces disease, disability, death and inequity worldwide”, “Should Any Vaccines Be Required for Children?”, “Immunization in the United States: Recommendations, Barriers, and Measures to Improve Compliance”, “Vaccination: The Best Return on Investment”, and “Vaccinations and childhood type 1 diabetes mellitus: a meta-analysis of observational studies”. With two of the sources being popular articles and three of them being scholarly academic journals the credibility of each source differs. The article titled “Immunization in the United States: Recommendations, Barriers, and Measures to Improve Compliance” is proven to be more credible because it’s use of evidence and logos.
The topic that will be thoroughly discussed is Vaccination of Children and whether or not you should vaccinate your child. I chose this particular topic because it is a well-known controversial topic and I strongly believe that children should receive their vaccinations. Vaccinations are extremely important to not only a potential at-risk-child but also the family, friends, and the community as a whole. Without vaccinations the world would suffer from fatal diseases, illnesses, and disabilities. The mortality rate would without a doubt increase and the survival of infants would become a struggle. Throughout my paper I will thoroughly explain how vaccinations work, review frequently asked questions and concerns, describe the pros and cons, and discuss why every infant should receive their vaccinations.
The reason I found this topic interesting is because of the many conflicting views regarding childhood vaccines. It is probably one of the most controversial discussions regarding the health of children. The central theme to be discussed is vaccines, vaccinations, and immunizations. According to Basics (2008), there is a difference between the three. A vaccine produces immunity from a disease, vaccinations is the injection that produces immunity and immunization is the actual process by which a person is protected from a disease. For many years, there have been myths and untruths circulating regarding the safety of childhood vaccines. Among many, a few concerns consist of the use of animals to prepare and test vaccines, invasion of privacy, religious beliefs and it can cause Autism. Conversely, many believe it to be the best ways to
Vaccines have become an important innovation to health throughout the years. A vaccine is a product that produces immunity from a disease and can be given by the nose or the mouth.
Immunizations and vaccines have been around since the 1800s (Historic Dates). The idea of immunizing the population from deadly and unpleasant diseases is not a new idea. Yet many Americans, and people all around the world are beginning to question the effects of these vaccines, mainly on children and infants. It has been in more recent years that doctors have been recommending for children to start receiving vaccines as soon as they are born. The most common misconceptions of vaccines are that they cause autism, or that they cause the person being immunized to be a carrier of the disease. This causes a lot of new parents to rethink and hesitate to get their children vaccinated. However, the effects
Have you ever wondered why you or anyone else should be vaccinated? In fact, “90% of kids in the United States are fully immunized against ailments that once killed thousands of children each year” (Heusel). In this research paper, you will learn about the most common vaccines that children and/or adults can receive to protect them against harmful diseases. The most common vaccines include influenza, DPT, MMR, and varicella, also known as chickenpox. Vaccinating your kids and yourself is very important to remaining healthy and prevent many serious diseases (Heusel).
There are no federal laws that mandate the vaccinations of children as of yet. There is however certain guideline in all fifty states that require children to have certain vaccinations before entering the public school system. The only children that are exempt from this are those that have medical or religious exemptions that allow them to go without the vaccinations. Those children would more than likely be homeschooled.
Vaccination has been brought up again in recent years even when vaccines have been around for about one thousand years. However, with recent outbreaks of measles, some see as preventable disease through vaccines, the main controversy of vaccination has once again been brought up due to parents concerns of safety of their children. Parents now are wondering if vaccinations are the best thing for their children due to reports that vaccines cause autism and other brain disabilities. Although, the link between vaccines and autism has been discredited, the issue is still a hot topic throughout the safety of kids and refusal of vaccines. The link between autism and vaccines has caused a scare which lead to more parents refusing to vaccinate
Anti-vaccination movements are hurting children and the people surrounding them. On the contrast, there is a pro-vaccination movement to advocate for those who cannot protect themselves. However, this movement is diminishing due to skewed facts in the media. This only comes back to haunt the parents who do not vaccinate their child, and the people who cannot be protected against it. Using vaccinations can irradiate diseases that have evolved over the years, saving millions of lives, and giving peace to lives lost from the disease (Jacobs, Charlotte DeCroes).
The requirement by the United States for childhood vaccines and immunizations has been a long standing debate amongst both families and communities within the United States. Throughout this persistent debate there have been influential and iconic spokesmen and women for and against the vaccination of children. To better understand why this is such a thoroughly argued topic of discussion throughout the country, you must first delve into the immune system and garner an understanding of how our bodies fight disease, as well as, what constitutes a vaccine.
There is a profuse amount of websites and articles and other sources that talk about the risk that there is in taking a vaccine. These sources have caused parents to be scared of vaccinating their children and now mandate that they have the right to do whatever they want with their child. They argue that they have the right to consider what medical procedures are done to their child and that if their child is vaccinated or not they have the civil right to attend school. These profound websites that plead that vaccines are bad talk about how “Vaccines are pharmaceutical products that carry a risk of injury or death. That there are genetic, biological and environmental high risk factors that make some people more susceptible to vaccine harm”.
Vaccines are an example of great advancements in medicine. Vaccinations have allowed dangerous diseases, such as smallpox and polio, to become rare. An article in The Lancet in 1998 discussed a study that linked the MMR vaccine with autism. Even though the study has been proven false, people continue to believe vaccines are dangerous and cause autism. This paper explores the controversy of vaccines, arguments for and against them, and any risks associated with vaccines.
This paper will review the disputed topic of vaccines for children. I am against vaccinating children for reasons including the risk of unwanted side effects, harmful ingredients, as well as my belief in freedom in making medical choices. The contents of this paper will display the pros and cons of immunizations for children and will display a policy regarding mandatory vaccines for kids.
