Risk assessments should be carried out regularly to make sure that there are no safe guard threats towards the children in the setting. Childcare settings need risk assessing for example is there entrances and exits to the building that an unauthorised person could use? Could a child leave the setting without anyone noticing? Could a child get seriously hurt due to a broken piece of equipment?

Moreover its important children are kept within a healthy and safe environment, because they are protected from any accidents occurring. For example in a nursery, the outside door isn’t locked and opens, the children playing inside and a nursery nurse is not present, anything can occur and the children can walk out of the door and an incident may take place and the might get injured. There should be first aid kits in every classroom for safety and preparation of teacher’s confidence toward safety. Supervision is important however, it helps with children and teacher’s safety. Teacher’s should check any equipment at least three times a week to make sure everything is a safe environment for children. If emergency is at extreme levels there should be an emergency preparation plan in every daycare or public school

There will be a number of other policies written to safeguard the children, young people, staff, and visitors from danger and to ensure safe practice throughout the setting. The purpose of this policy is to maintain an environment where children feel secure, are encouraged to talk, and are listened to. Also children know that there are adults in the day care centre who they can approach if they have any issues for example if a child is suffering from neglect at home the staff at the day care centre and other multi agencies will work together to improve the child’s situation, so that he will stop suffering from neglect at home.

In order to ensure a safe and healthy environment and services for children/young people there are some factors which need to be taken into account. These include any equipment which they will be in contact with, such as electrical equipment, anything which may pose a fire risk, any damaged furniture or fixtures which they may come into contact with. My observations both did and did not reflect what I learned in this course. This could be due to the fact that this daycare center may not be the best learning environment. A perfect daycare center would be everything that is described in the Petersen & Wittmer text, but how often do you get somewhere that is perfect? I feel my quality could have been better for this observation because I filled out of checklist with a majority of it is “NA.” I wish I would have had this checklist when I started my observations. I could have tested some of them with the children to make it more accurate. Since I do work at this daycare, I used my background knowledge as well as my observation sheets to fill out this checklist. My observations could have been

Michael has always been taking care of since birth by his mother, Jade. Jade is in the army and is being deployed to Germany. Jade and Anthony both work and need to get Michael a day care site. Michael was staying at the family day care site, at 18 months old while his dad work. Four months after Michaelś mom left, Michael was no longer at the family day care site, instead he was enrolled in a center day care site closer to his dad new work location. Michael’s vocabulary increased, as well as his concentration, and he started to be interested in playing with other children.
