Child Poverty rates in United States are among the highest of developing nations in the world. More than 16 millions of America’s children suffer in poverty. That is one in five children that live in families in income that is below the federal poverty line. In today’s time, United States is considered to be one of the richest countries in the world yet there are millions of children being malnourished. United States is a hurting country. The people of America cannot fulfill their promise to give children a bright future and a safe childhood. People are not trying enough to give children a better life. According to Joan M. Shaughnessy, a professor at Lee University School of Law, researched that, “Over 10% of children (in 3.9 million households) experienced food insecurity and over 1% of children experienced severe food insecurity. It has been estimated that […] over 2.5 million children in the United States experience homelessness.” (Source 1.) Over 10% of the children are not able to afford nutrition for well being and over 2.5 million children are homeless. Not having enough food on the table results malnutrition, which can hinder their mental and physical development. These children will not develop to be strong and healthy. In fact, they will be less capable to achieve their goals or to even communicate with other people.
