Though the world has advanced in science, technology, and cultural advances through literature, music, and philosophy, some bad have lasted throughout the centuries. Violence and addiction are still present in today’s society. Whether in the area of what was labelled “Chi-raq”, where gang violence is reaching highs in homicides, or across the country, where unemployment and job insecurity have made suicides and drug abuse among white middle age men the highest it has ever been. The twenty-first chapter of the book says “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There won’t be death anymore. There won’t be any grief, crying, or pain, because the first things have disappeared.” In the context of the book, this is the author referring to a new heaven and earth, as well as marveling at the city of Jerusalem. God is still there regardless, stopping grief and pain from people. This is something those who are suffering can remember. Whether the book of Revelation is meant as a book of the apocalypse or just meant as an allegory, God will always be there helping end the pain and grief people feel from living
The interconnected world in which we live today is absolutely amazing. It is possible to drink a cup of coffee grown in Uganda with a chocolate bar sourced from Brazilian cacao beans while ordering a sweater made in Bangladesh. This entanglement with the rest of the world is not without its shadows, however. The items that we so easily buy and throw out exploit laborers and resources from the farthest corners of the world. Even deeds that we feel are good for the disadvantaged people in the US and abroad, such as donating to Goodwill or providing monetary aid to Africa, have their own drawbacks as well. Living as a Christian in this globalized world presents challenges to Biblical values and requires thinking deeply about how our decisions affect ourselves and others.

Music is a very powerful expression of emotions that come together as a whole to morph your psychological feelings into a sub-reality vision. Over the many years, history has been able to capture the moments at which music has made an impact on human lives. We can start with Manu Chao the artist that sings about left-wing messages and portrays his concerts as “collective therapy”. Or Juan Gabriel the young man that rose out of poverty to become the world’s most beloved artist/songwriter and whose music carried a resonate flamboyant style. Music is a way of communication that is used in many realms such as entertainment, tradition religion and sporting events. Paul’s letter to the Romans is known as one of his greatest theological works. It has been passed down for thousands of years and is still just as relevant today as it was in Paul’s time. How exactly is it relevant the modern day Christian may ask? What with its harsh language that includes strong sentences such as “the wages of sin is death” (6:23) and “the wrath of God” (1:18) one may say that the times have changed. Some may say that these issues in Paul’s time are acceptable in society today. Jesus is all loving not wrathful. What exactly is the Christian to think? The purpose of this short essay is to examine how the Book of Romans relates to the Christian in the twenty-first century and how it helps to shape his worldview.
Imagine a world where people are living for themselves. People thriving to succeed in their careers, working hard to accumulate wealth, and dealing only with issues that affect them personally. A world where people are completely oblivious as to who created them, what He did for them, and what their true mission in life should be. In Counter Culture, author David Platt, brings to light different problems we face in our world today. He discusses various topics, including marriage and sexual morality, giving each one real life examples of issues humanity experiences every day. But not only does he bring these issues to the readers’ attention, he gives them a biblical view of why these issues are disliked in the eyes of God, and several different steps they can take to help make a difference in our world today.
Dangerous, chaotic, gun violence, murder rate, and “Chirac” are all words used by various amounts of people on twitter, when asked to describe Chicago using one word or phrase. If I were to describe the city of Chicago, I would simply say: complex, diverse, misunderstood, windy, and lastly beautiful. Many people who view Chicago as a bad city, because of all the crime and murder rate, which is why people refer to Chicago as “Chirac”. Being born and raised in Chicago, I can tell you that Chicago is a much better city than most people view it as. This windy city, specifically downtown Chicago loop, is such a beautiful place to visit in the summer and has special meaning to me.
I agree that the result was inevitable, but not because of the election of 1876. I think it was inevitable because of the clearly anti-Reconstruction path that the Supreme Court was taking.
In 1980, Americans with a college education earned 30 percent more than a high school graduate, whereas in recent years, people with a college education earned roughly 70 percent more than a high school graduate. (582). They argue that the average income for a person with a higher education continues to increase. Additionally, the lower class will see a raise in their income and in turn, that will raise the overall standard of living. Meanwhile, “the premium for having a graduate degree increased from roughly 50 percent in 1980 to well over 100 percent today.” (583).
In Paul’s epistle to the Romans he gives us the foundation of Christian life in regards to how we should not only see the world, but also how we should act in a world that rejects the gospel of Christ. In Romans 1-8 Paul teaches us how we are not able to come to a saving grace through our works, but that it must come from Christ alone, and not only to the Jews, but to the Gentiles also. Paul tells us however, that this will not be easy, but we that we need to remember who is ultimately in control of everything around us.
In the article "Why Are White Death Rates Rising?" by Andrew J. Cherlin described how death rates are increasing for caucasians who happen to be less educated. In addition, high school dropouts have caused many hardships that negatively affect the American economy. Individuals, who have not received high school credentials, live such experiences as poverty, unemployment, teenage parenthood, and criminal activity (Esch, 2003). For example, without the minimum of a high school diploma, individuals are susceptible to a cycle of poverty (AYPF, 2006). Esch (2003) explained that in any given year, the likelihood of slipping into poverty is about three times higher for high school dropouts than for those who finish high school. He mentioned that high school dropouts lack many skills to be hired for decent jobs; therefore, students are more susceptible to be dependent on the public assistance. Researchers revealed that if one third of high school dropouts were to remain in school and earn a diploma, the federal government would save almost 11 billion annually from reducing funds needed for food stamps, housing
