Dangerous, chaotic, gun violence, murder rate, and “Chirac” are all words used by various amounts of people on twitter, when asked to describe Chicago using one word or phrase. If I were to describe the city of Chicago, I would simply say: complex, diverse, misunderstood, windy, and lastly beautiful. Many people who view Chicago as a bad city, because of all the crime and murder rate, which is why people refer to Chicago as “Chirac”. Being born and raised in Chicago, I can tell you that Chicago is a much better city than most people view it as. This windy city, specifically downtown Chicago loop, is such a beautiful place to visit in the summer and has special meaning to me.
In order to get to the downtown Chicago loop, you can take the train.

This is a landmark fountain and is one of the largest fountains in the world. The Buckingham fountain has a geyser that projects into the air every hour. In the daytime, the fountain is delightful. The fountain produces a water display every hour for 20 minutes. The water shoots up as far as 150 feet into the air. On the other hand, at night, the fountain is spectacular. It lights up with different colors as the water shoots into the air. To top it off, you can watch this display for free. As the fountain lights up, music plays as well. There are benches around the fountain so you can sit and enjoy the show. The fountain is also a great landmark for pictures because the city is in the background. The skyscrapers and buildings in Chicago are behind the fountain and are lit up too, which makes for a nice photograph. The sounds of the water rippling is so relaxing to me. You are never too hot because if you get close enough, the water from the fountain will splash you. The breeze from the water is a great way to cool off on a hot summer …show more content…
This beach is known to be one of the most popular beaches in the downtown Chicago loop area and is always packed with tons of people in the summer. People are always looking for ways to avoid thinking about the sun, and North Avenue beach is the perfect place to be to avoid your thoughts on the extremely hot weather. I love to feel my feet soak into the soft, warm sand. There are volleyball nets set up in the sand, so I always make sure I have a ball to play. I can play volleyball for hours on the sand, although when I finish, my wrists are as red as tomatoes. After I play volleyball, I prepare myself to get in the water. The water is always cold of course. But, on a hot and humid day, the temperature of the water just right for me. There is also has a beach house shaped like a boat, where you can go in and put your belongings in lockers or use the washroom. There are more activities to do at North Avenue Beach other than playing volleyball and swimming. You can tan, people watch, rent bikes to ride, rent jet skis or kayaks, or grab a snack from the concessions stands that people set up. Many people rent bikes to ride them down lake shore drive. On the other hand, many people also go to North Avenue beach just to buy food. I love to buy funnel cakes. I always get a funnel cake with extra vanilla ice cream, topped with chocolate fudge and
Chicago had earned the nickname the Black City in its lower class areas because the town had become fairly impoverished. The area was industrial for the most part full of working class or unemployed people just trying to get by in life. As such it was not uncommon that people would go missing or die in an accident making it how a serial killer could go unnoticed for a while. The book also mentions the influx of young women coming to Chicago because of how many nightclubs and brothels had sprung up in the area it was easy for them to find work if they were willing. How the area looked very much reflected that, the houses being
The people of Chicago and the reader would find the White City as a magical wonderland with the way Larson explains it “The fair was so perfect, its grace and beauty like an assurance that for as long as it lasted, nothing truly bad could happen to anyone anywhere” (Larson 289). While the Black City was a rat infested death “The White city had drawn men and protected them; the Black City now welcomed them back on the eve of winter with filth and starvation and violence” (Larson 323). The reader could see through Larson’s use of juxtaposition that the White city helped clean up Chicago’s image for the time
The water is surrounded by beach like sand, picnic tables, and playgrounds for summer family fun. Although swimming is at your own risk the lake is cool and refreshing. Several different species of fish have made this beautiful lake home so fishing is offered with the proper fishing licenses. Boat rentals are also available seven days a week for reasonable prices.
Two neighborhoods in Chicago Such as Hyde Park and the West side of Chicago are very different but have a variety of similarities as well. The differences and similarities lies in the areas, the houses, the schools, political views, the food and basically the towns their self. Neither of the two neighborhoods is the best to live in but sure is not the worse. In the west side of Chicago, you see plenty of people standing around on the corners, theirs a lot of liquor stores and fast food restaurants. The crime rate in the West side is higher than Hyde parks that including the car thefts and burglaries. Don´t get me wrong both neighborhoods crime rate is high but i think the better of the two would be Hyde Park. Hyde Park is located on the shore of Lake Michigan seven miles of the south loop in the south side of Chicago. Hyde Park is also where the University of Chicago, The Museum of Science and Industry is.They also have a nice Art Center. Its a very diverse community while the West side is predominantly African American (Black). Both Neighborhoods are democratic areas. The houses in the West side are more closer together and they barely have any driveways mostly just allies and gang ways. The houses nice sizes with affordable rent. You can find plenty of cheap homes and rental properties there with ok living areas. They also have restaurants and convenient stores in the areas so if you don´t have a car or transportation its okay because im pretty sure you find something
In doing so, the reader is forced to realise that Chicago is not all good, but also not all bad. The readers also receive a more broad view of Chicago, which allows them to make more broad judgements. Larson doesn’t want the city to be viewed in only one way, he wants to portray a more realistic view of the city. I believe his dichotomy is successful, as we see one set of characters trying to promote a positive image of Chicago, and the other set of character’s destroying
So, The various texts we have read about Chicago i believe it showed Chicago to be an bad and good city. I also think that in the text the author came from different background so they had different point of views. I also think it could have been the side of town there was on because that could be and major factor in an person's point of view. I say that because in “Sister Carrie” the author really talked about Chicago being
The world is full of incredible wrestling cities such as London, Philadelphia, New York, LA, Orlando and more. But nothing compares to the Windy City! With NXT Takeover and Backlash having took place in Chicago last week, it’s only fitting to write this.

For my city I chose Chicago. I chose this because I really like the city, it is close to home and it is the least vulnerable to climate change. Chicago is located in the Midwest. It is one of the largest city in the United States with a population almost at 3 million. Chicago is a huge city and a metropolitan area that stretches over 10,874km². As the center of the Midwest, Chicago is easy to find. This city sits right on Lake Michigan. It has lots of iconic sights and neighborhoods.
This novel was all resolved around a character name Beatrice Prior who was from Chicago. Beatrice was not just from the regular Chicago she was from the future of Chicago where things was very different. According to Shmoop, if you've ever been to Chicago, you'll recognize the landmarks of the city, though they've all been tweaked a bit. According to spark notes, a dystopian setting needs more than just some crumbling buildings. It needs some weird new government and society.

In "Chicago," published in 1916, has accepted the world around him and acknowledges that although he is not a part of what he has witnessed, he is complacent with the alienating properties Chicago is able to provide and finds comfort in being lost within the large city. The narrator begins by describing Chicago as "Hog Butcher for the World,/Tool maker, Stacker of Wheat,/ Player with Railroads and the Nation's Freight Handler;/Stormy, husky, brawling,/City of the Big Shoulders" to explain how industrialization has come to define the city ("Chicago" 1-5). The narrator then proceeds to describe his observations of individuals who live on the fringe of society, "painted women under the gas lamps luring
We even have a few rappers that made it out of Chicago such as Lil Durk, Chance the rapper, Kanye, Common and much more. Yea its bad in different parts of town just like any other state or city But it’s plenty of towns along the city you could live in. There’s homes by the to beaches that are nice and if you don’t like living in the city suburbs such as Evanston, Naperville, Oak Park and etc Has some of our best homes and quiet areas, Even though my city may sound bad or even look cargo also sometimes has the best
Another inexpensive attraction in downtown Chicago is their iconic Navy Pier. Navy Pier is known as a tourist hotspot. It includes multiple retail shops, a ferris wheel, an IMAX movie theatre, a crystal garden, a mirror maze, the children’s museum, a number of restaurants, and is the loading dock to luxurious cruise lines. Split the cab fare with friends to reach the pier and spend the afternoon sightseeing. There are no fees to enter the pier or crystal garden but there are admission fees for extra amusements for a reasonable price. After one the evening sightseeing they can either hop on a dinner cruise or dine at one of the restaurants. After dinner on specific days one can enjoy Navy Pier’s firework show. On Wednesday and Saturday nights during the summer, Navy Pier hosts its very own firework show free to the public. One can essentially spend the entire day enjoying all what Navy Pier offers.
