The two passages, ‘’Checking In’’ and ‘Your Life : The Game’’ address the theme of turning everyday activities into games. Both have very different approaches, but have the same goal. To make people more active , and competitive. For example in passage one it talks about an app that a person can check in for points in a friendly competition. On the other passage 2 talks about a few games that are used in other ways, such as learning a new language.
Both articles agree that gamification is a very advantageous idea, but disagree on why. "Checking In" by Hiwatha Bray focuses on the economic advantages gamification, while "Your Life, The Game" by Stephanie Warren Drimmer focuses on the personal advantages. To conclude, the two passages have differences in the way they address the theme of turning everyday activities into
SOCS vice President is not only responsible for providing SOCS members with athletic events, but are also responsible for building and maintaining a sense of community. Of course, there are some aspects of intramurals that I would be willing to evaluate such as possible time slot changes to better accommodate commuter students and look at possibly introducing basketball. However, to incorporate more of the social aspect to SOCS athletics, more socials should be considered. I believe having a Boston Pizza game night would be an excellent way to not only to inform current members and new members about all things athletics, but is also a great opportunity to make new connections within the society. By appealing to more people through the addition of these sort of events would also increase possible membership purchases.
He never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided. The man’s heartbeat which pounded like a beast that he seemed to have become in the heat of the moment finally slowed down and he felt a feeling he hasn’t felt in three days. Calm. This sick excuse for a humane game was finally over..at least he thought.
Squeak! My shoes slide across the floor I’m going to do it this time was determined. I passed defenders left and right. I’m going to do it this time I will score.I arrived early that day in order to get in extra practice. I knew this was a crucial game. I was nervous and excited at the same time. My palms sweated and my heart was racing. I was ready.
I was born on February 24, 1999, In Cleveland Ohio, we never had a permanent home, we was always moving. When I was two years old my house caught on fire , we had to stay at this motel for a week or two. However, I was named after my dad, he gave me my nickname Gg it mean Goodgame, I didn't like it at first but it grew on me. I remember one halloween my dad bought me a bodybuilder custom I was so happy, my dad always bought me stuff, I was a spoiled kid.
Captain Caleb Holt (Kirk Cameron) is a firefighter in Albany, Georgia and firmly keeps the most important rule of all firemen, "Never leave your partner behind". But Caleb's home life is a completely different story; his seven-year marriage to his wife Catherine (Erin Bethea) is almost at the point of explosive destruction. Neither one understands the pressures the other faces, and after a heated argument in which Caleb screams in Catherine's face, she declares she wants out of the marriage, and takes off her wedding ring.
Basketball is a game of strategy, hustle, and skill. If you can’t handle the pressure, with defenders on your grill, and fans judging every action you make, then it’s not the game for you. I still remember the shot, the float, and the net diving sideways as the ball went in the rim. What a moment, as if it won’t happen again.
In the society we live in today of all the pastimes, one that dates back centuries and still continues to grow is the love of sports. According to “The History of Sports” the first recorded sport dates back to 760 BC. Beginning with a simple footrace sports, soon developed into wrestling, boxing, equestrian, discus, javelin, and jumpin (History of 2009). In ancient times sports asserted dominance within citizens of a kingdom, proved strength, agility, and the power of executing skills with a single action. In ancient Greece an Olympian with a win was considered a “hero” to the town. (Ancient Sports). Although the athletes today are not portrayed as a hero, they hold the title of a winner and a hero to their fans. Sports have
My reactions to the game is that with limited defensive rebound opportunities we did not
Ladies and gentlemen tonight on “This is your Life” we are going to discuss the story of a holocaust survivor, but do not fret because we will refrain from the raw graphic detail from this time in history, we plan to bring back people from her past to build the drama, and we will also shower her with gifts afterwards in order to ensure appearances are kept up. Although this sounds like a horrendous idea for a talk show due to the fact that Holocaust survivors have tremendous difficulty telling their story NBC presented this story. An episode aired about a woman named Hanna Bloch Konner in May 1953 on NBC. When America started to feel the importance of recording and sharing Holocaust survivors stories with the world a variety of factors came
“Jacob, if you keep up the way you have been acting, we will have to send you to your Aunt Jess’ place!” David, Jacobs’s dad exclaimed.
Sweat dripped down my body while running as fast as I could. Two barriers stood in my way and one keeping me from retreat along side me. I made the choice of a lifetime one that would end me or get me to the next level. While sprinting with the speed and agility of a Gazelle, I cut to the right then back to the left I was more than half the field away. The new messi ball dribbled by my feet moved by passion. I was already prepared for what I would do next swinging my leg back building up enough power to kick the ball even a brick wall wouldn’t be able to stop it. As my foot came back from behind me it touched the ball with such sheer force it looked as if my foot particlized into the ball. The ball glided through the air across the field and into the top left corner of the net. This was the game of my life. A battle to remember and a fight for respect only one team could come out on top, it's a game that leaves you speechless and passionate this game is soccer.
I have always loved the game loved the smell of the fresh grass that hits you like a truck when you run onto the field, loved the sound of helmets clashing together as our enemies try to take us down. This game has always been my life, it's always been so important to me, but now at the ending of my senior year I run out on the field with a weight pulling me down. I think about college and that i have zero scholarships… yet. I promised myself that I would one day make it big. I promised myself that i was going to support my family. My mother worked three jobs trying to keep me and my younger brother and sister going. She told me every day never stop pushing and to strive to the best I could possibly be. She wasn't like other moms that told their kid that they played so good, she told me the things I did good and the things I did bad.
From the social point, game provides new identities and roles, weather it is related to school based learning or not. The sense of competition and collaboration in games increase a large amount interaction. This enables users to identify themselves and obtain social credibility and recognition with respect to academic achievements. (Lee and Hammer, 2011) The competition mechanism, therefore, is extremely influential regarding the interaction between users.
At the age of twelve my life was going pretty fantastic. I had an awesome job, a loving family, and a great group of friends. After an extremely long shift at the dinky baseball park snack shack, I went to watch one of my best friends, Robbie, play in his baseball game. When I sat down to watch I began feeling extremely sick to my stomach, with such intense pain that made moving difficult. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, so I sat on the cold metal bleachers and finished watching the game. After the baseball game had finally ended my mom came to pick me up. When she saw me the first thing she said was, “Wow, Kort, are you okay?” I kind of lied to her and said, “Yeah, just a little sick to my stomach is all.” My mom and I continued our fifteen minute journey back home, and I knew that she could tell something was obviously wrong with me.
