Smoke thickens the air; the bleats and screams of terrified animals assail their ears; their senses are bombarded with scathing noises. In all the forest there is but one haven of peace, the four friends' small grotto. Their enclave of peace is small, barely large enough for the four friends to sit comfortably, but contains water enough for several days if needed. In order to keep Stacy, a spoiled rich girl, from fretting, Preston suggests each person tells three of their best stories, with the stipulation that the stories must be either entirely true or totally false, in hopes that the fire will have diminished by the end of the tales.
Preston is a quiet man, tall and broad, with thick brown hair and a luxorious beard, strong facial features on a hard, tanned face. He is used to spending long hours in the woods with only his beagle and his axe for company. He likes being alone because it gives him ample amounts of time to think. He always passes his ideas by his best friend, his beagle Argos, who is named after the dog in The Odyssey, to see whether or not they're good. Preston includes Argos in all areas of his life, the two friends are inseparable. With plenty of time to think, Preston is a wise and cautious man, and when he speaks, people generally listen.

She is rash, and often doesn't properly think about what she is saying before she says it. Her father's money has earned her a place in the "Rich Girls," a sorority despised by all the sensible people in town. Although she is one of the "Rich Girls", she has never really fit in. She just wants to be herself around her friends, and not hide behind something achieved by someone
In the “Odyssey”, Odysseus goes through obstacles throughout the book that a normal man couldn’t subside. One example is in book 9, his main obstacle that he is trying to face is to escape from being held hostage in a cave by a Cyclops better known as Polyphemus. Odysseus is a archetypal hero, he is also a role model, with an ambition to get to his homeland Ithaca. He goes through resisting temptation and using his intellect and physical strength to get him there, no matter the obstacle nor the negative flaws that he faces. Odysseus put himself and his men in that situation by being curious and wanting to know what kind of land his ship and the winds led him to. This was selfish of him because it cost him some of his men, but a leader and hero has to play that role and some lives will be dealt with on the way. Odysseus says, “The rest of you will stay here while I go with my ship and crew on reconnaissance. I want to find out what those men are like, Wild savages with no sense of right or wrong Or hospitable folk who fear the gods” (Homer 429). Saying this quote alone makes Odysseus a humble man due to the fact that not even a piece of land is going to slow him down on his journey back home.
The Odyssey served as a genesis of character archetypes in sorts, it introduces some of the most common forms of characters. In almost any book, movie or story you can find evidence of this with obvious parallels in protagonists, antagonists and side characters. The first one I saw was Percy Jackson of “The Lightning Thief” to Odysseus. Characters both act as the hero on a quest/race against time.
Focus on the descriptions of the palaces of Nestor and Menelaus. Find quotations that describe their virtues:
Character archetypes play a part in the epic by moving the story along. They all help to assist Odysseus by giving him guidance, never leaving him, and by providing a reason to come home.
Example: Berto gave Lydia a note. The note was mean and said some awful things about Lydia. Berto was not very nice and did not like Lydia.
This quote is from the time Odysseus is trapped on an island by the nymph Calypso for nine years. These powerful words portray clearly the pain that Odysseus bears within him thus giving the reader a fuller understanding of the story and his character.
In the Epic, “The Odyssey", spoken by Homer, conveys a heroic tale of an epic hero named, Odysseus, who faces many challenges as he sails to get home. One of the tasks Odysseus faces is, "The Sirens", who challenge Odysseus 's will power. Another challenge Odysseus encounters is, “The Cyclops", who torments and slaughters some of Odysseus 's men due to his curiosity. One of the hardest threats he had to confront was, “The Land of Dead" which tested his self-restraint, and revealed his human weaknesses of sorrow. The Epic Hero, Odysseus, struggles with many challenges such as, the taunting Sirens, the brutish and cruel Cyclops, and one of the arduous territories Odysseus has ever crossed, The Land of the Dead.

There are various female characters in Homer’s poem The Odyssey. While some of them play positive roles, others display the evil side of women. Penelope is a portrait of loyalty of a woman towards her husband. Athena is a symbol of helpfulness. On the other hand, Circe, Scylla and Charybdis represent the women who find it fair to fulfil their desires through unethical desire. During the ancient Greek, the societies were patriarchal; the women in the poem support this notion through their submissive personality despite the unfathomable powers they hold.
here are many characteristics that fall under a hero. Throughout The Odyssey, by Homer, Odysseus proves that he has some of these characteristics, by experiencing many challenges and difficulties on his journey back home. While going through these hard times, Odysseus gains values of a hero. Throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus displays many Greek values, which characterize him as a hero.

The five characteristics in Epic poems are found in the following: The hero plays the major role in the story where he or she are both of national and divine importance. Second, the setting sets the tone of the story that can be either worldwide or larger. Third, the hero’s deeds are at superhuman peak that’s beyond human understanding. To begin with, to “work in common” means to work together within a community or to not live in isolation, as opposed to living without any desire or requirement of other people. Consequently, it is someone whom relies only on their own wits without an oath or pledge into partnership with or to anyone outside of themselves. Aristotle makes the simile of this type of person to a beast or god, as neither requires approval from any person, to describe someone that lives a life in this way. In Homer’s book “The Iliad” Achilles appears to portray this description.
Odyssey experienced all kind of stuff human never see in their life. Odyssey is tired on his body and mentally. When he got in the craft, he just fall to sleep, until the craft arrived Ithaca, he still in his dream. Feel like he will sleep forever. Sailors saw him still sleeping, they move him and his gift to land, then they leave.
Ancient Greeks’ history consisted of monsters, creatures, gods, goddesses, fights, and battles. It shows that Ancient Greeks were very imaginative and creative. There were three main archetypes that were used in Homer’s epic ,The Odyssey, which show different aspects of Ancient Greek culture. Those three archetypes were: the hero/father figure archetype, the monster archetypes, and the search for love. The hero archetype explained the Ancient Greeks’ love for thrill and adventure; Odysseus went on many thrilling adventures while on his journey. The monster archetypes represented the Greeks’ love of horror; Odysseus’ men have died due to the monsters and creatures. There were also love stories that show the Greeks’ passionate and emotional
