Chapter A: Pelagios
Athens, Greek Mythica, Spring
"Pelagios!" His mentor 's voice echoed across the streets leading to the docks. Pelagios was dashing through the streets in an effort to lose his pursuer - his mentor Chiron, and escape successfully to the beach and fish carefreely.
Stepping carefully around a puddle tainted with horse manure, Pelagios looked back. He was torn between his duty and the urgent desire - no, need, to fish. Although it might sound silly to some, it made him feel closer to his father. And during times like these, he really needed that. Lately the gods have been silent. Demigods haven 't gotten any prayers answered from them or signs or anything. It was if the gates to Olympus had completely been shut and had no intention of opening soon - if ever, again. The demi-god meetings Chiron had recently insisted every demi-god attend bored him to tears. Each one he 'd been to followed the exact same path. A group of self-important youngsters, clearly fond of the sound of their own voices - especially the children of Apollo - made interminable speeches about how Diaeus 's actions in Egyptian Mythica were exceeding the remit granted to him. According to them, he did not have the authority to manage diplomatic relationships with Egyptian Mythica. Chiron, his mentor, Sophia, his sister, along with Alexandra, Diaeus 's sister, who supported Diaeus publicly - except for Chiron, who supported him privately, said little or nothing until the campers had fallen
When evaluating the government of ancient Athens, some might say that it was a democracy, however, it can be better described as an oligarchy: a form of government in which a small group of people has the power and control (Doc. D by Mogens Herman Hansen). A democracy takes all the citizens’ opinions and thoughts into account, unlike an oligarchy that only takes the male citizens’ opinions and thoughts into account. Thus, Athens is more similar to an oligarchy than a democracy. The people of Athens also decide as a whole what the best government for their city-state was, as opposed to a democracy where the people elect representatives to make decisions for them and their city-state. Athens could be seen as not a true democracy because of the lack of basic democratic rules and methods such as what they define democracy as, who is able to vote, and how they vote.
The years within 600 B.C.E to 600 C.E are often referred to as the Classical Age. For a society to be considered classical, parts of their followings have to be in use in present day societies. Civilizations during this period developed various religions, cultures, and institutions that have left a lasting impact on the present day world. Classical societies were usually well organized, and powerful in their time. Greece was one of several classical societies during this period, and many aspects of Greece still influence present day societies.

In roughly 460 BCE, Epilates and Pericles launched an attack and changed their approaches of conservatism at home and positive relations with Sparta abroad. For around fifteen years (461-445 BCE), Athens, in cooperation with Argos, went to war with Sparta for control of the Greek territory; this was the First Peloponnesian War. At first Athens was triumphant, however, she was soon compelled to make peace with Persia (449 BCE) and afterwards with Sparta. An enduring consequence of the war was that Athens practiced stricter control over her partners: the Delian League turned into the Athenian Empire. Ruled by Pericles, Athens sought to keep traditions and maintain peace with Sparta. During this time, Athenians created the freest government the
The Hellenic Age and the Hellenistic Age are the two main periods in Greek history. The Hellenic Age is significantly different from the Hellenistic Age. The Hellenic period saw the rising and falling of the polis while Hellenistic period was plagued by warfare among the remaining dynasties. Despite the differences between the Hellenic and Hellenistic periods, the one thing that remained consistent in both periods was the Greeks' ability to not only advance science and philosophy but to strive for excellence in everything that they undertook including their ability to deemphasize the role of the gods in their lives.
A hero is a man to be admired. Every civilization throughout history has always had a hero. The model of a hero has always changed throughout history. When people wonder about Ancient Greece the first thing that comes to their minds is Greek mythology; gods and goddesses that have helped shape many historical events. “In ancient Greece, stories about gods and goddesses and heroes and monsters were an important part of everyday life.” (“Greek Mythology.”) The civilization showed that numerous characters and stories helped shape Greeks. The beliefs the Greeks had with mythologies was they understood the meaning behind all the characters that are known today. However, to the Greeks, they were not just characters, these were their gods and goddesses who gave them meaning and understanding of the world around them. Worshiping the gods and goddesses helped them with their religious rituals and the temperament of the weather. A famous wine-jar that was made during this time period was “Achilles killing the Amazon Queen Penthesilea, 540-530 BCE, black-figured amphora”. (Khan Academy) The civilization that they lived in grew around their worship and achievements.
Also adding to the idea of threats to democracy are the threats to the other corporations that do not control the flow of information but would still like to be part of the larger media corporation. One of the primary ways businesses are able to survive is if they thrive or excel within their own field, or they become part of a larger system which can give them a boost into their success. Ted Turner writes in “My Beef with Big Media” his personal opinion and journey with the success of his own media corporations. As the founder of CNN, he went through adversaries not only from within his own business administration but from the “media moguls” that did not want to deal with the type of small owner that Turner was perceived to be. Political fear is an important concept which has repercussions throughout politics today. Much of this idea is established in Corey Robin’s work Fear: The History of a Political Idea. In this book he walks through the philosophical origins of the concept, discusses what it looks like at different moments in American history, and offers his own theory of the a form of political fear developed in the United States, which he calls “Fear, American Style.” Next, the dynamics that occurred during the McCarthy era United States are discusses and related back to this idea- that a uniquely American type of political fear is at work here, particularly in workplaces across the country. Finally, through the in class presentations on fear, the implications

Next, was Tartarus who is usually confused with the residence Hades, but was depicted as the father of some of Gaea’s children. Also appearing after Chaos was Eros, the source of sexual love/attraction that brought beings together to produce more children.
